Something to think about is that the treadmill is a little easier than walking outside, even on flat ground.

I've read that for military fitness tests done on a treadmill, the incline is set at 1% to try to compensate for the assist from the equipment.

RETURNTOTHIN - There are some expensive ways to check the accuracy and some that are less expensive but also less accurate. On the lesser side, you can go out, walk a mile and see how long it takes; buy a pedometer, measure your stride length, then use it on the treadmill; measure your treadmill belt, mark a start point with bright tape, turn it on to the speed you are using, count ten revolutions, multiply it by the length of the belt and then check the distance with what the treadmill says.

On the more expensive side, you can get a distance roller and take it for a walk on the treadmill; find a place that will come out and calibrate the treadmill.

My treadmill says I'm walking a 15 min mile,,,, how can I test it to see if it is accurate?

Hi
I just finished week 3 today but I'm doing it in kms instead of miles. Today I got 4kms in 52 minutes which is 13 minutes per km or I think that 1k is .62miles so that is a pretty slow mile. about 24 minutes a mile?
Anyway I am getting faster back in March it was 19 minutes per km.

emoticon emoticon

Even though I am slow I am glad to do these challenges. It gives me structure and a plan to follow plus I feel like I accomplished something when I finished the challenge.

Hope everyone is having fun.

At the end of the day, be able to look back and say "I did my best today."

LTMURPHY7 - Did you find the program under your personalized programs on your start page? Have you been recording on the log the first couple of weeks? If the answer to both of these is no, then go to this link, and make sure you have joined the program and not just the team. www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/t
raining-p
lans.asp
Go to the bottom and click on the button next to the Walking Program. It will either say "See/Join the Program" or "Go to Program." If it is see/join, then you will need to click on "Join the Program" when it takes you to the program page. If it says go to, then it will take you to your log.

Let me know what happens.

I can see I am going to come in very slow next week. I still haven't worked out all of the kinks in my legs.

I really have to make myself get out and walk in the morning. At least before 8am, it's under 90.

Plus I feel virtuous all day long.

Congratulations! 15 minutes a mile is awesome. I am still having a few cramps in my legs so I travel pretty slow.

You're doing great, and you'll get to that 15 minute mile as long as you stick with it. Just remember to keep your arms bent at a 90 degree angle and use them as runners do. Your arms control your legs, so the stronger your upper body and core, the faster your arms will pump and the faster your legs will move.

I just finished week 3. I am very committed to the program, just slightly bummed about doing 24 minute miles. I thought I was walking much faster....lol....I know that if I keep with it that the time will lower, it just seems like 15 minute miles are way off in the future. emoticon
