Hi, WALKINGGRANDMA:

You're absolutely right: feet are complicated appendages, and what works for one may not work for another. That's what keeps variety in our lives... and in the stores!

I initially thought that the weight of these shoes would be problematic, but no. I feel like I'm walking on pillows hugging my tootsies.

I do have to shake my head in wonderment, though, over how anyone can order shoes online without trying them on.

I have a pair gathering dust in my closet. The Shape Ups make my knees hurt. I have a friend who got Plantar Fasciitis while wearing them. They are heavy and the soles do not bend.

I have shoes that I love. I used to buy them at local stores on sale and they worked just fine. Went to a sporting goods store the last time and got a pair that is very light. They are also very comfortable.

Everyone is different in the shoes they enjoy. If Shape Ups are the shoes for you, that is great. I like lighter weight shoes and those with more flexible soles. I'm looking for a new pair of shoes for my "alternate" ones.

The important thing is to use the things to walk.

Hello Nancy

I visited your spark page and Masha-Allah you look so beautiful! BTW, you only have 13 yrs on me - I am 47, look 37 and feel 23 yrs young in my heart......LOL.

You have a very sensible rule of thumb about buying two pairs of shoes when you love the fit - this is a rule that Insha-Allah I'll be following from now on :-).

Just today I met a woman while out jogging in my neighborhood and I invited her to my home to learn yoga. She respectfully declined - either because I was a stranger or maybe she thought that I would be charging money. Maybe I should make this disclaimer at the outset that I teach yoga for free! The only thing I know is that I had a FBS (fasting blood sugar) of 185 about a yr ago and now I am down to 106 without any medication ONLY by doing yoga. This is my nature - if something is beneficial for me, I want to spread the word so that others can also benefit. My hubby keeps on drumming it into my head that I am NOT responsible for other peoples' happiness but this is a lesson I have a hard time learning....LOL. I am happy so I want everybody else around me to be happy too :-).

Insha-Allah, once I buy the Shape Ups, I'll let you know how they turn out. A very good friend has been urging me for a yr to buy them however her advice was falling on deaf yrs but I read your mail today and just like that, I made up my mind to buy them! As the saying goes, "When the student is ready, the teacher will come."

Salaam and duas,

Sameena

Hi, Sameena:

I've got a few more years of buying shoes in my past than do you, since I'm 60. My rule of thumb, when I can afford it, is to buy two pairs of basic shoes when I love the fit, and two purses when I find one with pouches all in the right place --one for now, one for when the first wears out!

My other rule of thumb is that, if a pair of shoes doesn't fit in the store, they will NOT get more comfortable if I "just walk around at home in them for a while." They simply will NOT! Alas, I learned that the hard way. And I've learned great self-discipline in putting them back on the rack.

These Shape Ups took me for a 2+ mile walk this morning... and they're so comfortable, I don't want to take them off, even though that's my practice when I'm inside.

So, sure! Go ahead and try them on when you find some. I'd love to know what you think.

--Nancy (By the way, your husband is right: don't be giving out your phone number to just any old person!! But it's nice you're willing to extend friendship to those you meet!)

I was wondering if anyone else has had experience with Skechers Shape Ups shoes. Or if anyone has another brand they absolutely love and would recommend as walking shoes.

3 years ago, 2 Cavalier spaniels came into my life, and I began taking daily walks. I've walked off the soles of 2 pair of shoes now. And I finally know my neighborhood!

Last week, taking advantage of the 4th of July sales, I stopped at the local Shoe Carnival, and they had Skechers Shape-Ups on the clearance rack for $30. How far they've fallen since they were convicted of false advertising! Still... can't sneeze at sneakers for $30....

Long story short, I tried them on and they caressed my feet in the store and caressed them on subsequent walks. Yes, I noticed the backs of my legs getting tired. Yes, I see how these shoes mimic walking in sand. They're significantly heavier than my past pairs of walking sneakers. But my FEET don't hurt!

Having worn them for several walks now, I'm so happy I made the choice that I went back and bought a second pair to stash in the back of my closet!
