Just finished week 3. This is my first time checking in as I was not sure I would be able to finish. Have really struggled the last 1.75 years with walking. Long story, short of it is that I began having knee issues. My doctor sent me for xrays and said nothing was wrong even though my knee was swollen and I had all I could do to walk on it. Said there was no diagnosis therefore would not refer me to a specialist. Earlier this summer the knee gave out and I fell injuring my hip. The ER docs decided I needed to see an ortho. Best day in a long time. Ortho found knee was bone on bone, I will eventually need a knee replacement. Had the hip injected first. Then had 3 Synvisc injections into the knee. After the second injection, I was able to begin a walking program again. Started the 5k challenge after the third injection. Started at the blazing speed of a 28 minute mile. Today I was at a pace of a 20 minute mile and walked 2.5 miles. I felt good enough that I could have gone the extra .6 mile, but decided to keep it at a slower pace. But now I am positive I can finish. PS I also swithed primary physician this week.

I just finished my 3rd day on the 3rd week. I walked with a friend and ended up walking 3 miles! Walking with a friend sure does make the time go fast! Great workout. My dog went with us and had no problem with the 3 mile walk. (3 miles/53 minutes)
(I started my 5K training in the 3rd week because I was already walking 40 minutes and sometimes 2 miles.)

The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

A little -_- at myself, but easily overcome. Monday was planned for W3D1. Decided walking home from my bus transfer point should be enough. It wasn't. It was barely over a mile, so it took me around 20 min.

Okay, fine. I know the 1.54 mile route takes me longer. So last night I walked that. But I hadn't checked the training page and had the wrong idea it was 25 minutes I needed. I finished that 1.54 mile route in 26. Since that was enough, I cooled down, stretched and did my ST, then went to track it.

Ah, well. Tonight it'll be a 2 mile route, since I've apparently upped my pace to about 17 minutes per mile. Friday will be D2 and Sunday will be D3.

Hi, everybody. It's great to read all of your posts. It is so inspiring to hear everyone's different stories and experiences. I just went on my 30 minute wald for day one of week 3 with my 9 year old daughter. I think I'm going to take her with me more often as the time goes by so much more quickly. Good luck in the remaining weeks to you all. emoticon

I've enjoyed trying to walk, but unfortunately I have arthritis in my feet and I'm just in too much pain the day after walking. So, I'm going to leave for awhile and, hopefully, I'll be able to try again.

Week 3 starts for me tomorrow. Looked at the schedule and it looks like a pretty easy week coming. Already walked for 30 minutes and the two miles so the only 'add on' is the .25 miles for day 3. Should be a snap. I'm going to increase my walking pace to lower my time per mile this week. Really looking forward to this.

I walked my day 2 of week 3 yesterday...2.28 miles in 42 minutes. It is amazing to me that I'm really coming to enjoy walking and working out. Every time I've tried to incorporate exercise into my life, it's been a struggle, something I felt I had to do, not that I wanted to do. I don't know what the difference is this time, but I'm glad that it is different. This is becoming fun.

Just finished Week 3, Day 3...this is the furthest I've ever gotten into a plan! I can't believe I actually walked 2.25 miles today. I also can't believe I'm now looking forward to my training days. And I REALLY can't believe that I'm going to be doing my first 5K in just 10 more days!!

Finished Wk 3 Day 3 - 2.25 miles - WOW who would have thought this was possible. I am so enjoying my walks - take my grandson to school and keep walking til I have reached my goal for that day. My daughter in law goes with me and she is pulling 3 kids in a wagon, while I push the stroller - (she does day care, so take all the kids with us when we walk). We are both trying to lose weight because of health reasons - mine is my severe lower back pain, and for her it is High Blood Pressure which they are still trying to figure out why!! Might be a blockage to her kidneys - more tests being done!! So together we are working hard towards our goal.

Just pumped that I finished Wk 3 -

Ok so I should have started day 1 of week 4 yesterday, however, I am still waiting to finish day 3 of week 3! The second half of last week was pretty tough and just couldn't get myself together. BUT, I'm here now and plan on finishing off week 3 tomorrow am before work:)

BLUEKITTY- after reading your entry tonight, I feel absolutely embarrassed about my whining! You are a TRUE inspiration! Thank you for sharing that part of you with the rest of us! And you're absolutely right, you CAN do it and if I could carry your tank for you and walk along side, I'd do it in a heart beat! Don't give up! You're amazing! emoticon

Well as we are going into the new week of the challenge, I realize that I may be really slow but that I can walk 5K. I have said it before, I am amazed that I can do this much, because I was in a wheel chair 9 months ago and thinking I would never be out of it. I live on Oxygen and so when I walk I am carrying an additional 10 lb. supply of Oxygen. I have a fractured neck and back so this is quite heavy for me. I hope this is encouraging to others to keep on walking. emoticon and so can I.

Well here we are in week 3! Sunday is my rest and quiet day too. I like this to be my day of solitude. I work as an RN in a busy acute psych unit and as a sexual assault forensic examiner (SAFE nurse). When I am on duty, I am 100% involved and my heart and head belong to my patients. Sunday is my day to regroup. This time of year I watch football, my true passion, bake, and enjoy my home and family. I'm not on-call for SAFE and I don't work. I even avoid the phone if I can. That all being said, I blew it last week. I have hopes to make the upcoming week a SPARK filled journey. Good luck to all.

Hey there emoticon
What Great Support We All Have Here! This is Very Special. I know what you mean about needing to slow down. I set a goal for walking 2 miles a day, then went and did 5. I got blisters on both feet. Over exerted myself in the heat. I think I actually may have had a little heat stroke. I felt sick and didn't feel good through the night.
What I learned was, we may have the heart to do more, but listening to our body, recognizing where we are physically, then make reasonable adjustments and keep going.
The smaller goals are a perfect example of what we CAN do! Together WE CAN.
I AM SO PROUD OF YOU ALL!

Adjust the weekly requirements from this challenge to something that will suit you.
So walk from your living room to your kitchen and back, 5 times - or just 3 times, whatever you can manage. And do that several times each day, if you can.
It all counts.
Do some of the seated exercises form SP - you don't have to do 2 x 12-15 You can put them onto your fitness page as User Added, and just do 2 x 5 of things.
Include the exercises with dumbbell or whatever, but do without those additions to start with. You can add intensity either by increasing the number of repetitions )2 x 6, 2 x 7, etc) or by increasing the weight your using.
I currently use a 0.5ml bottle of water for each of my 2 weights. But I know I need to increase this, as the reps are happening far more easily now.

I just want to repeat - do what you feel able to, not what the site or info says.
Even just lifting one leg at a time while you're sitting - that's called seated leg raises, and is a good activity.

Please - let me know if you can manage any of these ideas of smaller movements, and if you'd like to be in touch personally so I can give you support for these smaller amounts of activity.
We can work togwther on your longer slower build up back to where you'd really like to be.

I need to listen to my body.
My fibro-/hypothyroid/chronic fatigue body is telling me "no more".
I have been taking the 1 if not 2 days off. I have been doing gentle yoga on my non-walking days. I have been spreading my walking days throughout the week. But still my body is saying "no more, stop".

I was worried this would happen since I've only been exercising since mid-May after years of not doing much.

So, I have to drop out. BUT I WILL BE BACK!!! I just need to give my body more time and I need to have a longer (3 month), slower building up to a 5K walk plan.

Good luck everyone! emoticon

Blessings,
Heidi

Ok so everything hurts today, and I mean everything....BUT, I did it! I managed to get my 2 miles in (2.32/38 minutes) so that completes my day 2 of week 3! yay for me emoticon

Soooo exciting! Although we will be having rain for the next 4 days and we do not have an indoor mall here on the island so I will have to get creative.....or invest in a pancho emoticon

W3D3 - I didn't manage to get out for a 2 mile walk - even though the weather was dry.
However, I did manage 2 1/2 hours activity - 2 hours of which was done within 2 hours!

Wk 3 Day 2 walked 2.41 mi in 50 min. A little disappointed about the time; didn't take pain meds for my back at the correct time, went later in the day, blah, blah, blah. Anywho, finished the route I had chosen so I'm WooHooing on that emoticon

I'm jumping back in at Week 3.
I should be in Week 5 now - but things didn't work out for a couple of weeks, for me.
I had already started Week 3 - I was working a week commencing Thursday (just because of when I'd signed up).
So yesterday was my new W3D1 - 30 minutes continuous walking - I actually did 41 minutes.
Today, W3D2 - I did 15 minutes ST (Monday is my Lower Body WorkOut day), 15 minutes walking indoors, and 15 minutes going up and down the stairs.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) is 1 of my main Cardio days, and is also a 2-mile walk for this challenge, so that ties in quite nicely. I hope it's dry and I can get the walking done outdoors.
