We did more walking on the golf course. Temperature was 92 degrees when we finished around 12:30.

LINDAF49, golf is an easy way to get the steps in without thinking about it, but, on non golf days I get it in by walking 30 minutes in the morning and 30 in the afternoon. I stay pretty busy between the walks just doing things around the house. I do take a rest day each week, most times on Sunday. Thank you for the kind words.

I think I need to take up golf but know nothing of it and nearest course is 35 miles away... I wonder how many steps I would get in with lawn croquet.

My first day of week 3:

Had my 10,000 steps in and then went to check on flowers. Started pulling a few weeds and then I got my little hoe and really got into weeding. Before you know it I am drenched in sweat
and have a buketfull of weeds plus 1,130 more steps. lol

Yes, GolfGMa, I do like the Sit and Be Fit ones in particular and they are good for me but I must build endurance of time on my feet actually walking in some format - but must also have the support and balance the canes give me - I thought the treadmill was going to meet that need but a part is missing so can't do that yet. So when it is too wet and unsafe for me outside I will just keep doing the best I can - Got my time in on exercise bike is as close as I can get. May have to go to town and use the gym next week if the treadmill issue is not solved. I just am determined to keep on trying till I can persevere through the 5k distance and timed endurance for me. I have come to far to not keep trying.

LINDAF49, Have you tried the seated chair exercises here on SP workouts. There are several with resistance bands and dumbbells with great stretches as you go. Loved those while my knee was injured.

Thanks for the encouragement to check out the Leslie Sanson videos - I am not stable enough to do that much activity without my canes but I think I may try one of the more gentle ones with my walker there to stabelize me if I need it and modify down the movements a little - just having someone there talking me through it and the music for the "beat" seem like a huge help!!!

My most enjoyable way to get steps in is on the golf course, but, since I can't play every day I enjoy the walking videos when inside and late afternoons I just like walking outside near my house. My favorite walking videos are all of Leslie Sansone's on You Tube.

Keep walking gals - so glad you are increasing your time and feeling OK or good about it - Especially when you can see you are walking faster for 'normal and for bursts both ... YEAH!!!

I noticed this week that my recovery time is also shorter meaning my heart rate and breathing normal in shorter time after the walk. This is critical with my heart stents and hx.

Yesterday was Week 3, Day 1 - walk 30 minutes. What I have noticed is that I can more consistently walk faster. I walk on a treadmill and when I first started 1.5 mph was my "regular fast" with occasional "bursts" of 2.0 mph and a "resting" speed of 1mph.

Fast forward to yesterday. My regular speed is about 2.3 mph, bursts of 2.5 mph and resting at 1.7 mph. Not great numbers people who run 5Ks, but great numbers for me.

Week 3 Day 7 walked 40 minutes with my two canes at home on fairly level grass strip - Just back and forth till timer range - was tired to tears and dripping sweat but still able to talk and pulse and O2 were OK for my heart so feel I am being safe and following directions. Right leg really seems extra wooden tonight but will see how it is in the morning...

This is my 38th wedding anniversary - we celebrated with ice cream - our tradition is banana splits but decided to keep it plain ice cream this year - I should have planned and got some sugarless but just enjoyed the 300+ calories HaHa

Wk3 Day 6 - Saw Dr this morning - and first positive was lowest weight on their scale of 222.4# Always fun to get "official weights" down and Dr complemented me proudly and nurse wanted to know how I was doing it.
Then Dr checked out the levels of nerves / pain / feelings and we talked - he does NOT want me walking on pavement after my spinal surgery and no hills in a walking path - and no 5K until 6 months after surgery so I may do it but with his instructions and blessings

I will continue to train up towards doing a WALKING 5K with two canes on a composite flat High school track sometime in June or July. Date to be determined. I will continue to train at home on flat lawn increasing 10 minutes per week until I have made the 5K in one walking time and then set a date for official timed group 5K. I am excited and still determined to see the goal set three years ago and delayed by heart stents and then the spinal stenosis and surgery.

This might seem like a lot of detail and repeat of info but journaling this way is good for my mind and heart and resolve. Thanks for hanging in there with me

Wk3 Day4 Walked part of the 5K course today - using two canes and experimented with lengthening one of them little bit for the rounding down on the edge of the road - felt more comfortable but really tired in part of - Oxygen and pulse readings were OK so just kept slow and steady and managed to finish my timed mile in 40 minutes [20 minutes one way and circle back to the car 20 minutes] ...fitbit and car odometer do NOT match...going to do some research on that - I'm guessing I am taking smaller steps and more of them that is planned.
Will talk with Dr Thursday and see how the knee is doing too. May still have to give up the dream of this 5K and wait and do one on padded highschool track on the level...

Starting wk 3 - this looks like a quiet group = no new walkers nor strollers...

I walked 1.3miles today on the 5K course . Not my favorite area of our valley but wanted to see if this is a logical goal for me
walked enough steps for 1.3 miles up and down the largest hill on the course - will take my pulse monitor to make sure heart is behaving next time. .

Hope my arthritis knee doesn't flare up too much. I'm tuckered tonight!!!
Also the needed use of two canes My arthritis in Right shoulder is flaring - not sure about the wisdom of this decision - may have to change the plan - will see what Dr says.next weeks too.

Well, I bit the bullet the morning and signed up for the virtual 5k race of Sept 20-26. I'm not going to win any medals for speed, but it will be a wonderful feeling when I finish. I almost typed if I finish, but that's the negative thinking I'm working to overcome as much as finishing the 5K.

I finally signed up for a virtual 5K for the week of September 6-12. So far it looks like I'm the oldest one signed up, at almost 75 years. I figure I'll make it to the finish line, but who knows what my time will be. I don't seem to be getting any more "fleet of foot" thanI was when I started training for this. My little dog will be walking the race with me. It'll be fun.

I walk/ran for 25 minutes. But I actually ran! It was not a jog, but an actual run. I have not been able to run in years without the fat in my abdominal region causing pain (from shifting).

Registered for a 5k next week! I am up to 13-14 mins per mile. I can keep that pace up for 4 miles. Since the 5K is only 3.1 miles, should be a piece of cake. I am adding some jogging intervals (2mins every mile or so). I am concerned about injuries so taking that slowly.

Hi all!

After a stressful day I am getting ready begin week 3 goals for walking. I walked more than 3 miles yesterday, but not all at one time.

I will try to walk 2 miles before today is over, but if not...I will start in the morning.

Hello to all,
I am "technically" finished with this week of the walking program. With all the stress of last week and the stresses of this week I have decided to take it out when walking. Sunday I walked 1.55 miles in 40 minutes, Tuesday I walked 2.8 miles in 58 minutes, and Wednesday I walked 3.1 miles in 69 minutes. I am to walk some more this week to add onto my total,so on Saturday or Sunday I will post with my finished results. I am trying walk at least 3 miles so I can get more miles and start feeling better.
I wish everyone the best of luck while completing this program. I hope that you have great success. :)

Week three over and finished. It is getting easier. Im constantly surprising myself with how far Ive gone, and reminding myself what I was capable of before all this pain stuff started happening. So week 4, and with two weeks of sight seeing I see absolutely no excuse why I cant fit it in!

The weather is not cooperating with me to allow walking outside. Been having to do my long walks on the treadmill which is not my favorite way to do it. The weather people say we should have some dry weather later in the week. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed they are right.

Great job. I just took a short 30 minute walk 1.6 miles to the supermarket with a friend today. Had to get ice cream for my hubby and of course got some for me, Ben & Jerry's 2 for $5. I will have a small bowl 1 cup/2 servings for my snack.

Was working on week three when my right knee started to hurt after every walk, this was back in June 2013. Idid a few months physical therapy and after working on my problem am back to my program. Today walked 2.25 mile with out any pain,

I started back to grad school and got sick in the same week. Unfortunately, I chose to stop walking for two weeks. I started over last Monday on Week 3 and will start Week 4 on this upcoming Monday. I hate going backwards, but I will not give up!
