I walk 7 miles at a stretch, going about 4.6 mph. The other day, I went for 18 minutes at 5 mph. Sometimes the old arthritis tells me to slow down and guess what I listen to my body. Today it is saying rest, so I will probably shoot for 10,000 steps & 5 miles total for the day.

Had to take it slower on Friday but spent time enjoying the TV coverage of the PGA Golf Open.

4.5 miles...beyond my comprehension but some day soon I think I will cross that 10,000 steps in one day...you encourage me. I have butterflies in my tummy today - alarm rings at 4am and I am on the track at 6m - prayerfully will be done by 8:30. Then off to family reunion so will not chat with you until mon night probably ...it will be on facebook for those who are connected that way.

I am trying the strength and toning and biking. Doing the 10,000 steps a day challenge. I take one rest day each week from walking. Health over all is the real goal I think. Thanks for your support always LINDAF49.

Good for you!!! Interesting that you are counting time rather than steps --- thinking that will be something I do after this week - I will need to set aside specific exercise time in addition to getting steps in daily activities of living.

S0 good to see your progress, in fact I get real excited feeling for you!!! ...my treadmill work is improving but I still have to hold on and probably will continue to need to but just touching it part of the time for balance - but I don't mind - about the same as using my two canes to walk outside.

Week 2, Day 1 - 25 minutes on the treadmill. I only went about .88 of a mile, so not very fast, but I'm learning to measure my progress in other ways. For example, when I started, even at 1.5 I had to hold on because my balance and stamina were poor. But today? I was able to go as fast as 2.2 without holding and still feel safe. In my book improved balance is progress. Speed will come on its on. I was really just doing an easy walk anyway - with a 6 minute burst at 2.5.

Good for you - what kind of dogs? names?

I look forward to the day I can take my yorkie, Sammy for walks but am still putting all energy and attention into walking with my canes and he is not trained to heal so cannot chance a fall with him.

I love to see the sharing going on here - week 2 means you are really "getting down to business here" Keep up the good work -
CGASKEW44 - you keep getting those steps in and Thanks so much for sharing the cross training of hand weights and desk/wall pushups - encourages me to do some of that more consistently.
RHOOK - Your step#s are beyond my comprehension ... it is exciting and challenging to know that can be done!!! I have seen 7570 once and will again...and beyond - it just seems like that must be wondrous!!!

Finally beginning to see value in pushing hard one day and kinda gentle the next day - I have fibro in addition to other things to overcome but this pattern is working best for me - I really have to be careful to not over fatigue self and when I feel the need to sleep, to lay down and rest!

I'm curious if any of you do strength or upper body work-out along with your walking plan? I need some direction and encouragement in that area.

Today is DAY 1 of WEEK 2 for me
Saw my surgeon this morning 4 months post-op for back surgery - and he knew my dream was to do a 5k by June 1 - he encouraged me and said he was working on full marathon in mid JUNE
He said to work at finding shoes that will be comfortable and supportive and yet wants me to feel all possible due to residual neuropathy... that my next step is to walk three times a day and continue my exercise bike as that will train my muscles and allowing nerves to heal to their greatest potential and keep losing weight!!! So my challenge is greater and more real.

Just finished Week 2 Day 1. I did 1.3 miles in 25 minutes. I may be a bit too slow, bit I'll finish the program. Hoping to get faster in the near future.

I did Week 2, Day1 today. My husband went with me, and I got about a mile done in the 25 minutes. So far, so good :-)

I just did my second walk :) I went with a friend and she brought her 2 small dogs. They are not well trained (she's working on it) so my left arm got a really good workout too!
