My first mile was about 18 minutes today. I probably could have done it faster without the stroller, though.

I have been walking in the evenings with my boys for a few months now and we are walking a 17-18 minute mile. When we started we were walking around 22 minutes so I am very encouraged by this improvement. Had I not been using the SparkPeople Fitness Tracker I would have had no idea I had made such progress!

I've been walking for a while now. My first mile was about 21 minutes, I'm not now at 18-19 minutes per mile. My walking buddy and I are now training for a 5k and are working more on distance now instead of speed.

My first was last October at 28. Quickly improved to 25. Slower improvement now, but consistently 19-20. Best has been 17:45.

So, I'm at a 30 minute mile. I am going to be walking a 5k and so I hope to get my speed built up before then. I'm encouraged by seeing how others started walking at about my speed but they have increased their speed over time - gives me hope!!

26 minutes for my first. That was match 8, 2012.
Now I do, 19, 20 and 21 mins/mile pretty comically
consistently for a 3 mile walk. I have added some
"jogging" or as I call it "jiggeling". When I can jiggle
for a mile straight , I'm going to buy those FUNKY Asics sneakers!!

How can I tell if my treadmill is telling me the truth? It says I'm walking a 15 min mile and I walk 1.5 miles twice a day, right now. So how should my training be different? and How can I tell if the treadmill is telling the truth?

I'm at 20-21 imnutes a mile depending on my breathing. Thats up for me. My tailbone is a lot more healed so my goal is to get back to down to 14 minutes per mile. My best has been 12. I'm happy to be walking consistently again and tell myself that any motions is better than thinking about it or talking about it. I'm getting healthier and fitter. Timing is individual. I joined this challenge again to help me to re-establish my goals and keep me on track better. Congratulations everyone no matter what level you are on. You're up, you're moving. Its what counts.

20 minutes per mile, consistently... I'd like to go faster. Think I'll have to leave the dogs home to accomplish that goal! They'll have to stay home on the official 5k day anyhow, I think that would be too much having them along.

When I started about 12 months ago I was walking a maximum of 1.5 miles in about 45 minutes, mow I can walk 4 miles in 72 minutes. That is 18 minutes per mile and now I am pushing for a 16 minutes per mile goal by end of June.

I walked my first 20 minute mile today, which I felt GREAT about until I read other posts from sparkers saying they "only" walk a 20 minute mile. A 20-minute mile is better than sitting on the couch watching "Say Yes to the Dress" reruns, which is what I would have done if I hadn't started this challenge. I'm not going to get discouraged or compare myself to everyone else. It's great to set timed goals for yourself, but it's even better that we are all making an effort to get ourselves moving!

I currently walk at 18 - 19 minutes per mile. My goal for this 5K is to increase to a 15 minute mile.

I am a finisher!

Just was wondering how long it took everyone to walk their first mile and see how I fit in with everyone else.

Each mile begins with the first step.
