Week 1 Day 1 for me today :)

I'll be doing it on the treadmill since it's too windy and raining to do anything outside today.
If you're on day 1 too add me :)

Off to the doctor on Monday - severe knee pain. I have known it was coming but wasn't taking care of myself. So now - I have to. Did get in W1D1&2 not sure if I am going to be able to do D3 or not. Will have to see how I feel tonight.

Baby steps!

Walked 1 mile Sun 1/8 and Mon 1/9.

I bought running shoes at a good running shoe store and the salesman told me to use my running shoes for walking because they are lighter in weight and better in support. Since I started using my running shoes for walking, my legs and feet don't get tired.

I was suppose to start a few days ago, but for some reason the motivation was just not there.
I walked today for the first time; and am determined to do this every day. With all of your help.

I have actually finished week 1. I'm totally amazed at how I feel and how easy it really was. The weather hasn't exactly cooperated but I've made the adjustments to accommodate the challenges. Looking forward to week 2.

With short term goals, it's one baby step or pound at a time.

I have officially finished week one and actually am working ahead of schedule...I feel a little better every day about the progress that I am making. It helps that the weather here is beautiful today and ideal for walking...sunny and warm (relatively speaking of course - in the 40's I believe). Our dog is loving the program too and she is worn out!!! :) How is everyone else coming along? emoticon

I did my second day today with walking one mile. I'll try to make up yesterday with a double later in the week. I was down with a migraine yesterday so I am totally motivated to stay on this plan. Reducing the number of migraine days I have per month is a big motivator for getting healthy. I did 1.33 miles in 32 minutes. Slow but it's a start.

Striving to make today better than yesterday!!!

I just did day one...actually I did day two but I didn't do something right and didn't find the instructions, so I walked a mile today...took 30 minutes but that is okay, I have to start somewhere! I did it on the treadmill b/c it is crazy cold here today! I prefer to walk outside though. How is everyone else doing?

I just finished week one and am looking forward to week 2. Although the time set for each day is a bit low for me.. i do a mile in 25 min. and a 1.7 miles takes me 35 min... I think that It will be taking me at least an hour or more to complete the 5k walk.. I am doing each days challenge on my Wii: Walk It Out.. so it calculates my time, miles, calories, and steps walked... and I dont have walking or running shoes... I tend to do it in my socks... Do you think that having running shoes would help my time.. and maybe keep my toes from going numb?

I bought some new "running" shoes because I thought I was going to be doing a walk/job 5K program. I found that the 5K running program to be a little advanced for me, so I joined this group. What I have discovered, however, is interesting. I own real "walking" shoes and now I own "running" shoes. I have found that my legs do not get tired when I walk in the "running" shoes. Therefore, I'm going to do all my serious walking in my "running" shoes.

PS - I did realized that my "running" shoes weren't very good for working because, as a nurse, I need to move quickly from side to side and this hurts my ankles (when I wear my "running" shoes.) So, shoes make a difference but we need to discover for ourselves what works for us.

I am on day 4. I was planning to do my one mile walk yesterday but life got in the way, so it ended up being my day of rest.. Today I did do my one mile walk, and I'm planning to go to a zumba class tomorrow night. I'm feeling pretty good about all this, I hope I continue to!!

I completed my first 5k last week. I found it so much fun and it helps me to focus. I am starting again from week 1. I have a little injury so the pace for the next few weeks will assist my healing AND keeping in shape. I had hoped to work on improving my time. Oh well. Enjoy everyone.

Hello Everyone,
I exceeded the goals for Week 1 without realizing it as I had not yet actually looked at the program. I'm not sure how we can track our completion of the goals. Is there a checklist we can use or do we need to come here to document what we have done?
Thanks for your help.

PS - I have been with Sparkpeople for quite a while but I'm starting to find the site to be quite overwhelming. It all used to be so simple. Now there seems to be so much I'm having trouble getting focused.

It got cold here today (-3 when I left for work), so I did my walking at the gym. 20 minutes. Oh, also walked my daughter to the bus; 12 minutes uphill there. Yay day one!

I signed up for a mile walk challenge today, but now I can't find it.

Anyway, I set out to walk a mile and ended up walking 2.5 miles. Woo hoo!

Can someone post me the link to the challenge so I can get credit for it?

It's the journey. We can do this.

I'm behind on this, but am glad I found it! I was just getting into running when an injury struck me down! So glad I found this program so I can still feel I'm working towards something. Had to do a slow walk but walked longer than the 15 minutes. Felt good-- would love to go outside, but the treadmill is providing me the even surface and cushioning I need right now.

I'm a day behind in my training for week 1. I've been walking with Leslie Sansone every morning before leaving for work, but I didn't want to count that as my training. I leave around 6:15 am and arrive home around 6:15 pm. Until I get dinner, it is too dark out to walk. Facing a challenge with this.

What happens if I fall behind in my training. Will I still get my trophies even if I don't do the training within the week specified and if I need to delay my 5K?

Finished Week 1! I'm surprised at how well I'm doing, considering how long it's been since I walked regularly.

Lovin' this!

I finished week 1 & feel great! I love walking: this is my first 5K Walk.

Fall seven times. Stand up eight. -Japanese proverb

"I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are, because a could-be is a maybe that is reaching for a star.
I'd rather be a has-been than a could-have-been, because a could-have been has never been, but a has was once an are."
Milton Berle

Don't compromise yourself. You are all you've got.
