I just started, I am headed out the door for Day 2, with my 13yo daughter who is also doing this on SparkTeens. She does not need to lose any weight, I'm just trying to educate her on smart choices, and she likes to walk with me.

Dead Last Finish is greater than Did Not Finish, which trumps Did Not Start.

Just saw I posted in the wrong spot...I completed Day 2 today. Walked at the Marina 4 miles in 70 minutes. I know it's a longer walk than required but I am trying to challenge myself. I had signed up for the 5K Walk/Jog, but fell while jogging yesterday and decided to leave that Team and join this one. I'm not quite up to jogging any long distances right now...walking is better. I still got bright red roadrash on my right forearm and elbow, a little on each knee too. But I wasn't as sore today as I thought I would be. Tomorrow is another day!

Day 2 - 1 mile in 23.14 minutes. It felt pretty good. I expect the rest of Week 1 will go well and then Week 2 will be a little more challenging.

Good luck everyone and just remember that emoticon

Hi,
the conversion is made in "Walking Tips" message.

I copied the numbers:
1 mile = 1.6k
1.5 miles = 2.4k
1.75 miles = 2.8k
2 miles = 3.1k
2.25 miles = 3.6k
2.5 miles = 4k
2.75 miles = 4.4k
3.1 miles = 5k

I did my mile today in 20 minutes, and I'm happy about that emoticon

Hi I did my first day yesterday and noticed that the challenge is for 5km and all the walks are measured in miles????? It's a nuisance as my pedometer is in kms too so it is a bit crazy to call the challenge one thing and measure it in another. Guess I will have to do the maths for all the days.

I am so out of shape. I mapped out the route ahead of time and when I walked it, it took me 20 minutes to walk one mile. I was huffing, too. Yesterday ended up being my day of rest so I'll need to do my cardio the next few days. I'll have to map out a 1.5 mile route for Wednesday. emoticon

The challenge is to walk faster. Like you a lot of us try to squeeze in other activities with our walk. I used that time to make a few phone call this week too. I'm just happy that I'm moving. My heart will be better for this exercise challenge. emoticon

I was able to walk outside today. It felt great. It is finally warming up and the sun was awesome. I did my mile in 20 minutes and I probably could have done it a bit quicker but I had a few pauses with the dog. It was so wonderful to be outside in the fresh air. It's been a long winter.

Funny thoughts pop into my head while walking on the treadmill, the latest: the Christmas song from the animation 'The Christmas that almost wasn't' (can't remember the actual title, sorry) where the winter warlock is learning how to walk like a nice guy: "Just put one foot in front of the other....and soon you'll be walking across the floor. Just put one foot in front of the other.... and soon you'll be walking out the door."

And since I was by myself: I hummed that little tune while I walked (nah, haven't gotten to the point where I can "Whistle while I walk...").
Walk on, whistle on, hum on... Spark on!

I actually did Day 2 - 1 mile as my first day. Mostly because I wanted to give my pedometer another test drive to see if I needed to tweak it to fit my stride length. I did 1.55 km, or 0.96 mile in 22 minutes. It might have been a little faster if I didn't have to watch my step on the slick areas of packed-down snow. :)

Tomorrow I'll do the 15 minutes of continuous walking. I did some calculating and figured at yesterday's speed, I'd do 5k in 70 minutes. Maybe as the weather and sidewalks improve, plus as I get back into walking, my speed will improve.

Well, since I haven't run into anyone on my walks... one in my house and one to the beach and back... no skyway here! You could walk in place while you visit... I would... They might ask you why and you could explain that your training. Maybe they'd want to join you. I used to have a walking buddy and it made the whole experience a lot more fun! Best of luck emoticon Donna

I am very slow also. What do you do when someone you know stops you when you're walking in the skyway to say hi. I briefly quit walking but just wondered.

Wow! I feel VERY slow. I just finished my day two mile in about an hour... I was a little over a mile and it was all uphill on the way back... dragging two little dogs both ways. I feel great and I guess I don't care if I'm on the slow side... I'm competing with myself... right?

This is my official Day 2. I did another 1 mile WATP, but it featured upper body exercises at the same time, so I'm doing double duty! I am so excited about getting back some semblance of normalcy in my life.
