Official teachers' first day back is Monday (August 6th). Kids start Wednesday the 8th. My school brought teachers back on July 30th, though, for an early day to look at data and have some training and PLC time.
We always seem to start super early in AZ, but we get out before Memorial Day, so it works out, I guess.

Busy, busy people before school even starts! Dedication never gets paid enough.
We are exactly the same as you Cath. As soon as our rooms are cleaned we can get in. They will wax floors sometime next week and will email us so we don't come in. That only takes us out a day or two. I feel like I'm making headway although the to do list never ends.

Teachers - August 14 Students - August 20
I'm in South Carolina. There is a law here that schools can't start until the third Monday in August, so we are starting later than usual this year. Therefore, we will be getting out later as well. (June 7, I think.)
We are fortunate at my school because we can come and go as we please during the summer. We don't HAVE to come in at all during the summer but I like to do a little once or twice a week so I'm not overwhelmed during those 4 inservice days. I've noticed that some of you have mentioned that you can't get into your rooms until after a specific date. There are a few days that we can't get in (when they are stripping/waxing the floors).

Let's see...our last day was June 21. Teachers officially return on Tuesday, Sept. 4 and the students return Sept 6. I'll be back in my classroom the last week of August though to set things up.

CMAE915, No, we aren't year-round, and no, we didn't end early last year! Because we've had a lot of snow the past several years (except last year!) our county got a waiver from the state to be able to start early. State generally doesn't allow start dates prior to Aug 25.
This meant we had an incredibly short summer. Kids got out June 8, teacher's last day was June 13, then back to it Aug 2/Aug 9. This allows high school students to take exams before Christmas break (they are on a block schedule) This year, though, we will get out in May.

I start Aug. 20 and the students start the 23rd. My son goes to a different district and he usually starts a day or 2 before me. He starts a full week ahead, on the 16th. He doesn't care because he's a senior. He wants to get it over with!

Wow! Starting in early August? I've heard of the last week of August... we've even done that but early August! Are you in a Year-Round system to start that early? I am excited to get back but that is pretty early.. but then you probably ended early, too. Our students come back on Sept 5 but we have two staff days, August 31 and Sept 4, with a Parent Orientation on August 29th.. I also have 3 training half days during August and then the week to set up my classroom. Maybe longer than that, as I have changed grade levels from 2nd to 1st and need to make some room arrangement changes.

First official day back for teachers is Thursday, training tomorrow, and really went back last week to start setting up my classroom. We have 5 workdays, all packed with meetings and common core training.
Students start back August 9.
