I just finished George R.R. Martin's A Dance with Dragons. I highly recommend him to any fantasy fans, as long as you have a strong stomach and are willing to suspend your moral views while reading.

Now I'm reading Fallen by Karin Slaughter.

I love Jodi Picoult and Nora Roberts. A lot of awesome books and authors on here so far. The last self-selected book I read was "Lies that Chelsea Handler Told Me". I needed the chuckles. I have "Water for Elephants" on my Kindle, so I guess I need to READ IT! :)

I am almost finished reading "Baltimore Blues" by Laura Lippman. I absolutely love the Tess Monaghan series, and decided to start from the beginning.

I also just finished the audio book "Bones" by Jonathan Kellerman. This is part of the Alex Delaware novels.

After Ever After by Jordan Sonnenblick

This book is the follow up to Sonnenblick's Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie. DG&D tells the story of a boy who's younger brother is diagnosed with leukemia, and he's learning to cope as well as deal with the pressures of school and girls. After Ever After tells the story from the younger brother's point of view once he has been in remission for 5 years. DG&D is a Grade 6 core novel at the intermediate school I taught at for the past two years, and was wildly popular with most of the boys. When we got in After Ever After, we couldn't keep in on the shelves in our book room.

While it's meant for middle school kids, I highly recommend it to anyone who loves to read- and their sons, too.

ps- if you're not familiar with Sonnenblick, he used to be an English teacher. He wrote Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie after unsuccessfully trying to find a novel about children coping with their sibling's illnesses, to help one of his students who's younger brother was diagnosed with cancer.

Beautiful Americans
It's about a group of high school kids who go over to Paris for a year to study. I shamelessly admit to reading anything and everything that has to do with Paris lol. It was better than I thought it would be! It was on the $2 rack at our book store so I wasn't expecting too much but I really did like it and will read her other books.

Water for Elephants
Saw the movie also, I thought both were well done. Usually I don't like the movie after reading the book but this was exceptional.

I agree with Cat - the book is almost ALWAYS better than the movie!

I just finished reading "Unbroken", a historical account (by the author of "Seabiscuit") of POW's in WWII. The book follows the life of Louie Zamperini, former Olympic runner and his experiences in various POW camps during the war. Excellent book!!!

Self-chosen. A nice respite from all the 'teacher' resource books I usually read lol

Self choosen but reading to incorporate in my classes next year: "The Diary of Anne Frank", "The Freedom Writers Diaries", and "Tuesdays with Morrie" - we're emphasizing journal writing with our students next year. I have also been reading "I Think I Love You" - about a young girl's love for David Cassidy (okay, I've just aged myself) and what it was like when she finally met him many years later. Got lots more on my Nook to read later this summer!

I believe in taking a positive attitude toward the world. My hope still is to leave the world a little bit better than when I got here.

I just finished House Rules by Jodi Picoult. Great book! Now, I'm reading The Magic Thief, Book 2. Both self selected. Next is The #1 Ladies Detective Agency. I also have three books on CD I'm listening to in the car (Journey to the Center of the Earth, 1984, and The Art of Racing in the Rain). I have started keeping a reading wish list, so I'm really excited about this thread. I get to add to my list!
