Sounds reasonable. Anyone else out there who can post any miles? We'd said one could join the challenge at any time. And remember too that anything that is distance counts - running, walking, bicycle, stationary bike, treadmill. And I think some elliptical s do mileage too.

I have extra sparkgoodie points, so I can throw down some for a prize.
I agree that we should wait until we complete the Katy Trail before jumping head long into something else. Isn't the point of a challenge to complete it?

Alicia, please help out on this one. You're Paleo; do you even track fat? Might we be do better staying in carbs or protein?

Regarding SparkGoodies - I'm always way up there on points. I'm happy to spend some of mine along the way with an explanation in the note that it's from the team. If we get enough people, we could certainly do 3. But we need to keep the number down so it's a real reward to get a goodie, that not everyone does. (Though everyone completing the challenge would get something, even if they were never a weekly winner).

What if we do a certain food group each week...
February has basically 4 weeks...
Do a freggie week - get in 5-7 freggies each day and you get so many points..
Do a fiber week - get in your 25-35 grams of fiber each day and you get so many points..
Do a water week - get in 8 glasses of water each day and you get so many points
Stay in fat range on your tracker each day - get so many points each day that you do

Then for bonus points stay within calorie ranges - get bonus points each day you stay in range.

Who ever has the most points each week gets a Sparkgoodie from the team, or could be top 3... not sure how many team goodie points we have.

Just a suggestion of course!

The thinking seems to be leaning toward some type of posting what we eat. So how might word it, to make it a challenge, but a doable one?

It is possible to share your food tracker on your SparkPage. I for one am not ready to go there.
Might we blog a set number of times a week, with or w/o pictures? Maybe blog on 2 days worth of food, either separately or in one inclusive blog? Whether we blog once together or separate the 2 days, include pictures of at least one meal per week?

Also, it occurs to me that we could start this on Feb 1 if we want, or we could wait until finishing the Katy Trail. Starting the first might help more people get active sooner.

I follow "The Paleo Mom" on Facebook and she went on a 21 Day Sugar Detox and posted pictures of her food. I thought it was cool. Sharing what you ate may make you second guess what you are putting on your plate.

Who is the judge and how is it judged since we are all so spread apart? Also, what if we do not have access to the challenge items because of money or if the store doesn't have them?

Oh I have an idea on the judging part.... we all post the recipe we used/created on the thread and the second week of the challenge we must make the version created/used by someone else. Maybe?

OY BOY -- you sure need to watch Foodnetwork and watch chopped. You get a basket of 3-4 ingredients and a pantry of staples. You then have to make a dish that uses those 3-4 items and highlights them.

You can put a picture onto your blog easily -- same as your gallery. You just add a picture to your blog from your gallery.

As far as the contest goes -- you make anything you want from the ingredients. Judges say who did the best.

I like the idea of some kind of meal challenge. No reason not to make it supper, but we could also do any meal. Chopped challenge sounds goof and probably if we go with that, supper makes sense. Then some other time later in the year, consider a different meal.

I, however, can be a bit of a computer idiot. At the moment, I would have no idea how to put a picture anywhere but in my gallery. Come to think of it, that might be something fun for my profile picture and write about the team challenge as why I change it.

I'm not familiar with the show. So would this be something like a stir-fry, skillet, or casserole dish, Leslie?

I like sharing food recipes also... supper is such a challenge to come up with something yummy but healthy.

Could we do a "chopped champion" game --- somehow everyone that participates gets the same ingredients and makes a dish... post a pic of the dish & the recipe and it gets judged? Chopped is my favorite show on Foodnetwork.

how about tracking cardio minutes 1 day and Strength training the next? SO that we are alternating our workouts? Just a thought.

Since I don't have a treadmill right now, and it is too cold for me to get out by myself or with the kids, it is hard for me to track any mileage.

I'm bad about tracking my food so it would be hard to stay within a calorie range.

Back to the virtual walk, we could walk across the US. Below is a link to milestones along the American Discovery Trail.

Maybe we could take a "trip" to various state parks starting in Columbia? Or we could have a "contest" for the largest amount of miles accumulated in a set period of time. Or we could find a way to either cut or burn 150 calories per day.

Or, at least, something to do after we "finish" the Katy Trail. Do we want another fitness challenge? Staying within calorie range? Some kind of cooking challenge? SparkPoints? Meeting another team member in person?
