We all need hats to protect us from the sun emoticon whether we have hair or not. You can still get skin cancer on your scalp. A very dear school teacher that I had, was blonde, ended up with skin cancer and died. It is a pet peeve of mine, to see these young mothers taking their infants, and young babies out, without hats. Terrible.

Some people try to turn back, their odometers

Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way,

I've travelled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

JUSTSTAYCEE: Will do. Thanks for the confirmation.

I think hats are easier and much funner to wear the wigs. Hats have more character, too. :-)

Yes, the hats are to prevent sunburn on my head and ears. I had a nasty sunburn on my head once and was miserable for about a week.

Keep at him to protect his head!!

I wore wigs for awhile, but have decided that I am happy with how I look and it doesn't matter what other people think of my lack of hair!

JUSTSTAYCEE: My DH is becoming follicularly challenged! Do you wear hats to avoid sunburn on your scalp or otherwise? I keep having to remind my DH to wear a hat.... Should I stop or ?

Since I am follicularly challenged (very little hair on my head) I wear a straw cowboy hat while working the patios or lot at work and I wear a cap whenever I am running errands on my time off.

I enjoyed watching the Royal wedding but I admit I DVR'd it and watched it later!

I like hats too. I don't specifically collect them but reading all the posts brought to mind how much I do wear them.
I have soft knit or crocheted ones in all my winter coats as my ears always seem to get cold and we get a lot of wind. In the summer I wear big straw hats when working outside if it is not too windy. I recently realized I could really use a nice foldable one with a big brim for when I travel and want to be outdoors. I had several when I was a teenager and we were waterskiing all summer. I have extremely fair skin, though I do tan well, and have always worn a hat and sunglasses outside.

I also wear ball caps when it is windy and we are walking the dogs so I get some sun protection and it doesn't blow away. My favorite is a nice light brown from Viaggi Unlimited a tour agency that arranged a trip to the Holy Land for our church group back in 1998. We each got one along with a travel bag. It is really comfortable and goes well with many outfits as well as bringing back fond memories!!

Sorry, I really got long winded (long typing?) but I guess I like hats more than I thought!
I enjoy your pictures of hats Elisadenk! emoticon

It used to be that hats were just decorations. Now, was I'm getting older, it is more of a necessity to keep the sun off my face and the brightness from my eyes.

I think hats look great! I have a few, and admittedly, don't wear them often....but I like the different styles. The fedora's are cool and come in different colors & plaids now. My DD has a cute painters cap (?) ... not sure that's the right name for it. emoticon

Now, since we are talking about the subject, I am noticing what others are wearing, around me.

Many here, wear visors.

I didn't watch the wedding, even though it was only an hour difference. I was out shopping or something. I have a couple of baseball caps I wear if I"m going to be in the sun all day otherwise I don't wear hats. I don't like anything on my head.

Hey Jamknitter,
I love baseball caps, too. Question for you, how/where do you store all of yours? I really need to find something. Oh, for my grandmother's hat boxes. That would be a great place to put them, b/c they stack so well. Ohhhhh, (sighing dreamily)

I saw some of the royal wedding on the news. I don't look good in hats but I do wear visors when running or at ball games on a sunny day because I''m very fair skinned and burn easily. Wish I could find a hat I like.

Oh yes the royal of it all, watched some of it. Oh yea the royal kiss, lol.

Hats the only ones I have one are for winter, burr, and I wear a visor during the soft ball & baseball session.

As growing my mom did have hats but i did not see her wear them much.

WIN: Those hat boxes would have been a treasure. My mom had only one. As I kid, I couldn't figure the thing out. LOL

Knit caps as in stocking hats??

Wish we could have a place were we could take pix of all our hats, upload them onto SP so we could see them. That would be soooo much fun!

I don't wear hats usually, although I know I should when out in the sun. I do have a straw hat that I bought two years ago to wear to the zoo when we take our grandkids during the summer months, when I remember to take it. lol

I used to love to play/wear my grandmother's hats when I was a child. I loved her hat boxes. I wish I could have kept those. I bought a sun hat last year to wear while working in our garden and vineyard. It's green with a neck strap. Not a real fashion statement. I also wear knit caps here in MN in the winter. I did enjoy seeing the various types of hats the wedding goers were wearing.

Ah JAM: You are one of the lucky ones who can wear ballcaps. I cannot. I look.... well..... When I lived in Oregon, I used to wear bandanas (silk scarfs, around my head, not neck) My mom is Italian and that's what they wear. So, I grew up wearing them. Ahhh the memories....

I don't have TV so I have not followed the activities and coverage of the wedding, but I like Ballcaps. I have them in many different colors to go with different outfits. I even have three different shades of blue depending on what shade of blue I am wearing. I love ball caps. they keep the rain off the glasses when I walk my dog in the rain. they keep the sun off the face and protect it from unhealthy sun rays. I'm growing my hair out, so I can now pull a pony tail through the opening in the back. they keep the hair off my face and they are just plain sporty and cute!

With all the media focused on the Royal Wedding, including the guests' hats...and Fascinators. I thought this would be an interesting question.

for me: I LOVE hats. I used to collect hats. Just don't wear them. They are not practical for me. I've downsized them to: a winter hat and a summer straw hat.

My winter hat has a really neat ribbon and bow on it with an angel pin.

My summer hat is a large-brim straw hat. It has an ugly, black ribbon around it. One of these days I'm going to change it. Easy enough to do.

Do you know you can use a needle and thread and sew most anything onto the straw? Maybe can even use glue.
