Anyone done some karma yoga to add here?
I did a great deal of data entry for my organic food co-op's shopping site so they can continue to grow. I'll miss them when I move ~ they'll be electing their new Membership Director on October 2 at our general meeting since I'm moving at the end of November.
I sent Reiki to my adopted cow, whose eye is doing remarkably well. I was so happy to get her update recently!
I sent Reiki to some rescue cats who needed it, and to two Spark friends who underwent surgery.
There's always little things like quietly picking up trash. Those are karma yoga too, though I don't keep track of them anywhere. I just naturally do them.
I love this idea. I am going to really try and be mindful, and do some karma yoga purposely. I'm sure I do at some point, but will try and do even more!
The other day while grocery shopping I picked up a small gift for a friend I am going to go see, I told him I had a surprise for him, he felt bad and said he wasnt able to bring me anything (he is traveling from out of country) and I told him he didnt need to- I didnt get it for him to get something in return!! Its just something small, but its something he loves and cant get there, so I just wanted to give him a little something to enjoy.
Some of the karma yoga I have done since my last post ~
~ Volunteered for my organic food co-op.
~ Sent Reiki to Kalki, my adopted cow, who has eye cancer.
~ Sent Reiki to a bulldog and cat.
~ Left spaces I was in more comfortable for the next people ~ refilled copier trays before they were empty, wiped restroom counters, removed food trash from library seats, picked up dropped items and replaced on shelves, etc.
Yesterday my husband came home from a work shift feeling exhausted. He'd been out of work for the past 15 months, and just got a job at a local Target-type store. After five 4-hour training shifts, I knew he was having some pain and issues getting used to being on his feet. To make it a bit more complicated, he has to wear steel-toe shoes since he accesses the warehouse. They're heavier than his usual footwear.
He dropped onto the couch and sighed ~ and then was the recipient of a ten minute per foot massage. He kept protesting that he didn't have the energy to return one. I said I didn't intend for him to, it was just done for the joy of helping him.
This space is to share some of the karma yoga ~ selfless service, or seva ~ that we do.
I've discovered by talking to others that sometimes people don't really know where to start with random acts of kindness. Karma yoga can be a single act, or it can be a longer type of service. The important thing is doing the action without attachment to the results, doing it for the service of someone else.
I started this topic to create a joyful energy of service ~ strongly believing that the world needs these spaces of healing and positive energy! Let's see what we can add to the cosmic Love and Light.
~ OM Shanti ~
