I would suggest you contact the American Diabetic Assoc or your local hospital to see where the closest diabetic education program is to you. I went to one at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring MD about three months after I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. It helped me alot. They have regular support meetings there also. I am still trying to loose weight as I had a major setback last April with major dental work to be done on two teeth. I could only have soft and cold foods. I went on a major ice cream binge, along with mashed pototoes etc. I go back to my PCP in early December so I want to be down some again. Be gentle with yourself. I finally got the all clear sign this past Tuesday from the dental surgeon.
I was just diagnosed 7 wks ago (type 2) and am a bit frustrated. I am doing all I am supposed to be doing and my numbers supposedly aren't as low as they should be. This came out of the blue. One year ago my numbers were fine, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides, BP, everything. Diabetes does not run in the family. The only contributing factor is my weight. I had a bad bought of the flu this summer and I went to the Dr's and found out I had diabetes.
