I actually bought an exercise dvd! Strength training has been a real challenge for me, so after weeks of stalling, I now have a ready-made workout to use every day. I'm proud of myself!

Now I just have to unwrap it and use it! emoticon

A 10+ minute walk every single day keeps me guilt-free!

I actually do a lot more exercise than that now, but a 10 min walk is my minimum policy. I find itís easier to just go do the short walk than spend any time mentally beating myself up about how I havenít exercised. Instead, I now give myself a pat on the back for doing it.

I've started going to the grocery store multiple times per week so i can get fresh fruit and veggies a few at a time, instead of buying a bunch and having to toss out stuff that goes bad. While it sounds like it'd be annoying, I actually like it... in some backwards way, it helps ensure that I eat more fruit!

I'm using the nutrition tracker, which is a BIG thing for me (I never wanted to keep track before - too much work and did I REALLY want to know?).

Also, I'm trying to limit the diet soft drinks. I'm now trying to keep it to 2 or fewer per day.

So like I said we went to the water park this past weekend and I was kind of bummed out because my sister was on floor 1 and we were on floor 3 with this really small elevator. I live with stairs type of people and so we did those stairs a bunch of times. Now that I think back on it to bad for my sister. Your right stairs with a cooler on the way down and all our bags, 2 trips to the car and it was ice cream at Culver's with out having the scale going up. I really watched it most of the weekend because I am getting ready to teach another eating class and I don't want to look really fat. Something about leading the class and saying this is how it should work but I don't do it myself. I do have to say I was buying food to go and I was looking at the can nut and this voice in my head said. If your going to eat nuts get them from the baking aisle. I almost started laughing. I did move to the baking aisle

Well Lynn,

I was able to go almost 1/2 mile today with my walking exercise videotape. Yesterday was 1/4 mile. I think I'll hang out at 1/2 mile for a week or so. We'll see. Thanks for your encouraging words earlier.

It's not fair. There isn't a large weight range for us shorties that we look good. A few pounds and we're chunky. A few pounds lost and we look sickly. I've been too thin a few times although I'm usually on the other side of the coin. Still I think that I start looking chunky in the high 120s and I look gaunt in the high one teens and if I lose weight due to illness as high as the low 120s.

Keep a close eye on those pounds. I tested this one out for you and the findings was the minute you turn your back and it is 2-3 pounds jump on your but and then2-3 on your mid section and another 2-3 on youd back side and it hides as back fat. Note I said nothing about bigger boobs. but it jumps on there last and your up 12 pounds. Your pants still fit just a little tighter but with the right top you can cover the muffin top or the dun lap but then your bra doesn't fit right and seasons change and your closes from last year don't fit and another 3 are like a lead weight on your scale. What happened and where did these 20 pounds come from is what you will be asking. I hate to be doom and gum but be careful. I call it doing reruns. Because you had so much fun losing it the first time you want to do it again. We will be here for you on the treadmill. My mest to you. I just feel better when I work out. I do have to weed today.

Thanks but I am just like you. If there is a chance of hitting the snooze I will do it. Everyday I have to remind myself of my goal and the need for good health. I eat as high of nutrition as I can and every day I tell myself that it may be easier to eat whatever I want but That's not what I want. It takes everything I have somedays to get to the gym but I am so glad I did it. I did 2 miles on the elipical tonight and a bunch of crunches with my daughter. Keep up the good work and remember we are all in the same boat.

Lynn,

Thanks for the encouragement. It sure helps right now. I'll probably have to send myself an email reminder each day for a week so I can get into this good habit.

Sounds like you're doing quite well yourself.

Again, thanks!

1/4 mile is good. I do 2 miles on the elipical which sounds like a warm-up to some people. I am working with a person that did 2 walks to the pool because he knew that when he got to the pool he could sit down and rest. Now 100+ pounds lighter he has extended his walks and was so excited to shovel snow for more than 2 min. He could do the whole walk way. congrats and keep up the good work. If you do this everyday you are 1 step in front of me because I have a problem with every day. sometimes everyother is a problem.

Today, for the first time in "forever" I walked some (1/4 mile). I know it's small but for me it's a big victory.

I got an excellent report from my doctor yesterday and I guess I was kinda waiting for that. Anyway, I've had it with this whole mess.

I hope you're having victories too, no matter how small!

What's a fried food. What's a mcdonals? I just had a salad w/ soy cheese and I don't miss those other 2 items or the grease hangover that goes with them. My but is getting smaller but I still don't see it. My daughter said something the other day that I was tiny. oh ya tiny as a house. I still see the fat roll in the front. I need to keep up with the crunches. I think we need to start another thread of 100 crunches or die.

I'm feeling proud of myself today! I'm working very slowly on incorporating new habits:

Taking the stairs to the second floor restroom at work. Drinking 8 cups of water (or close to 8 - much closer than I had been!). Using the nutrition tracker daily. Striving for 5 fruits/veggies. Watching for opportunities to reduce fat - especially focusing on cheese!

For most of these, I really feel that I'm making significant progress. And that makes me happy! I'm learning that slow and steady (just not TOO slow and steady!) may just start me toward winning the race. Too much, too fast is overwhelming - but this, this seems manageable! Yay me!

I am proud of myself for coming back to spark after taking some time off. It almost feels new again, yet lots of old friends still here where I need them. :)

You're all doing really great things and are really motivating me to do more.

*I park further away when I'm at stores.
*In an effort to walk more and save on gas money I've been walking when the option is there.
*When I'm out at the pool I make myself swim laps before getting out or relaxing on a raft.
*And while I don't think I could give up Diet Coke completely, I have cut back immensely.

I think it's good to focus on these things and to share them. Your good idea, may inspire others! My non-diet type thing to share is that I signed up on Flylady.net (got clued into that on SP, by the way) and have started using that system to tidy my house. Great for my mental health, which all works together with my other goals for myself.

LINDA46,
I think you touched on a key point. We have to be happy in our skin and comfortable with our bodies. We only need to be true to ourselves that way, not be who others want us to be.

I know this is a place to lose weight, but last summer I worked my butt off to lose it, yup down to 108[I have a large frame]I was going for low numbers on the scale then I started to gain weight[ok 130 is the max I want to go]and something weird happened I started to like how I looked, I've become curvy does this make sense? Anywho my small change was to realize I maybe 5'1 3/4" but with a large frame anything below 120ish I don't LOOK healthy!

I like to walk to the store instead of borrowing my roomy's car (even when he asks) or taking the bus. I figure an extra X minutes of activity is good any day! :-)

I park far away from the steps in the parking garage. I used to take the elevator in the garage, but now I do the steps. I drink more water now also. My snacks are fruits. If I don't bring a snack I don't hit the vending machine because I don't bring extra money with me anymore.

I too have been drinking more water since I started on this journey. I never used to drink much water before. Coincidence or not, I used to get almost daily headaches but not anymore. I really think it was because I was dehydrated. I used to only drink coffee during the day until the late afternoon. I feel so much better. Water does wonders!

I'm drinking more water. I used to drink only 2 or 3 cups a day. I just rarely felt thirsty. Now I drink 8 cups (6 at minimum). Tracking glasses as part of several team challenges has helped keep my mind on water.

I will park far away from the store so I can walk to the store instead of fighting for a spot right at the door like I used to. I have enough energy now to make it to the door!!

Today I started taking the stairs in my building to use the second floor restroom. Turned out to be 6 or 7 flights!! I plan to keep at it.
