Of those 12 miles I got 2 done in less than 30 min. I had a great dinner. Don't need ice cream I cut up a pineapple. It was great.

Lynn, you should have a PhD in ice cream! I have never read such an in-depth analysis of ice cream in my life - LOL! Imagine if you did the same study on exercise? You'd be a lean, mean, fightin' machine!

How does a person from ANYWHERE eat only a 1/2 cup of ice cream? S-L-O-W-L-Y and I'm being as serious now as when I suggested it. When you savor it like that, your brain gets the message that you are having something delicious and it does two things: first, you indulge the craving without blowing your calories and second, you learn that you CAN eat stuff in moderation. Ultimately, that leads to it becoming a way of life. It doesn't have to be a joke or an impossibility.

There's a great quote from Henry Ford, "Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right." So, think you CAN and you WILL!

I am sitting here laughing my but off. So I have to tell you that I chat or at least get e-mails from the yahoo wii fit board and I want one. It is my reward and as I am reading about all the games you can unlock I am getting more excited. So today I called around to see how hard it is going to be to get one and I am hopping that in a couple of weeks I will be able to get one but first I have to reach my 115 goal so clear the path I'm on a roll. How does a person from WI eat 1/2 C of ice cream??? I think culvers puts 1 1/4 cup on a single cone. Now I have done a study on this. If you get a flavor of the day in a cup they stick to the big scoop and that's it because the cup only holds so much. If you get it on a cone they can pack it on the inside and then put a scoop maybe, scoop and a half and if you sit up tall suck in your gut and look ice cream deprived they will really load it on with extra toppings mixed in. I now rate the flavors and only eat the ones that rate a # 10. This cuts it way down. I then also have to follow another rule "did I have sugar yesterday?" I laugh when people say you can have anything just in moderation. This is not a person that thinks in moderation. I was doing something for a test market and was asked about the size of a plastic container and I told them that I needed the biggest container I could put a salad in with out looking like a pig. This is not the mind of moderation. Most of those moderation people I know are afraid of loosing their eating buddies. I find it so hard to change the thinking of an over weight person. Vivian you just make me smile and congrats on not putting anything back on. I keep watching your tracker and have noticed it never goes back up. That's where I want to get to. stable!! 1/2 cup of ice cream too darn funny. but it's a thought. emoticon

LOL! You know what, Lynn - the "hint" is actually coming from you, because you know what you have to do. It's doing it that's the you-know-what!

I won't tell you to eat only a half cup of ice cream because you don't want to hear that. I won't tell you that your sugar habit is sabotaging your efforts because you already know that. And I won't tell you that the TV and all those false claims are lies because I know you're joking about that.

I will tell you this - if you put your heart into accomplishing what you want, channel your energy into it and make it - and yourself - a number one, unbreakable priority, you will be successful. That, my friend, is the only thing that actually WORKS...

PS. You can't eat it and burn it off at the gym later. That, too, is a lie...

I have cleaned my diet up also big time. I skip a lot of workouts because I have other things I would rather do. I too crave high nutrition items. Right now I could really go for some butternut squash mashed with soy cheese.
So I am willing to run those 2 miles every day and stop turning off the alarm in the morning. The 2 miles makes a big difference and no sugar until the end of July. One of my problems is that I really enjoy coffee with choc. milk. It comes up to 3/4-1 cup per day worth of low fat choc. milk. I really enjoy it and find it relaxing. I should cut it off at noon but there is nothing like a cup of coffee in the afternoon to finish up a bunch of paper work. A candy bar just doesn't do anything for me anymore. I am like a junkey that has moved onto something bigger and better. Ice cream has become less important to me also. I keep thinking if only this or if only that but what I should say is If only I would get my lazy but out of bed and get those 2 miles done. I know it's not easy and definitely not effortless. I have to do it to got it done.
BEMORESTUBBORN you crack me up and keep me going. Every time I see one of you postings I think Lynn get the hint. Theardddd millll get on it and go. But the TV says you don't have to work out to lose weight just take a pill. I'm guessing the TV is wrong. The magazines say all you have to de is eat choc. and peanut butter and you will lose 100 pounds. Don't tell be they lie too. Let me reflect back to what I have as the first two lines in my book. It's not easy and I can't do it for you. Sounds more like the truth. Lets see from now to the end of June is 6 days X 2 mile =12 miles I should be able to do that.

Whatever it takes...

For me, it was exercising consistently, changing my eating habits completely and eliminating as much sugar from my nutrition as possible. None in my coffee, no processed foods (they're loaded with sugar and sodium) and only a small, shared dessert once a week out to dinner. You would be surprised how the body adapts to these changes when you give them a chance to stick. It will actually reject the processed stuff and crave the healthier choices, like fruits and vegetables.

For someone who started her day with two Entenmanns Rich Frosted Doughnuts, drank diet soda by the liter per day and ate chocolate (and everything else) with abandon, it's STILL amazing to me that I don't miss any of it. In fact, it makes me feel a little sick to remember how I used to eat...

Good job. I cut a lot of things out of my diet and don't miss them. What nutrition does fried food provide? I have a problem keeping the working out up. It is to easy to say I'm to tired work out.

I need to get journaling again. I am staying kind of the same but I am ready to lost again. Getting healthy never tasted so good as it does now. I wish it did 10 years ago so I think it's time. I am planning to get the garden planted tonight. Last night I was pulling weeds at home and thinking. Normally I would of come home and would of ha to have something to eat. I tried to teach this in my weightloss studt group, to put activies before eating. This is one thing I learned in China. The people over there did things and ate when they were done. we here in the usa eat and stop to do something so we wear off some calories so we can eat more. When we were in China we were eating noodles late like 9:00 because we were still up and doing things. The noodle dish was a soup type item. really good. I learned so much in China.

I am now willing to log everything I eat and really think before I eat anything. I think I have finally had the big AHA moment. I have had a lot before but now it seems to have sunk in the last 4 days. You know what I am feelin gbetter , more moitvated and most importantly CALM. Calm feels so good. I cant tell you how good it feels to be calm around food.

It dawned on me yesterday that I need to stop looking so far ahead and just focus on one meal at a time, one workout at a time... because if I just do these things, then I WILL see results eventually.

It's gotten into the 90s here now which is making it hard to keep running outside, so I am willing to get my butt into the gym!

I'm willing to try to stay in my calorie range. I didn't manage 5 days last week so I'm going to do better this week. I'm going to check my nutrition tracker and see if I did that badly since joining SP or if last week was a fluke.

I received an E-mail from a different site that said Slow and Steady Wins the Race. As this is true you can't win the race if you keep sitting in the lounge chair. One must first be in the race facing the right direction and move down the road to the finish line. I have found myself not only off track but in the mall. Then I am going the wrong way like I lost something. Oh ya I lost something!!!! My thinking!!! Well I am back in the race and my next stop should be at 115 for a break. I am looking to pick up a reward at 115.

I wrote about this in my book. I call it a time to digest. If you keep filling the glass it will overfill or explode. You have a few choices of what to do. 1. make the glass bigger, 2. make the out going faster or 3 stop putting in or slow way down to allow the out to catch up with the going in. I am happy to see you have not picked #1. There is a group that I was following called the zigzag way of eating. They do a 2000 calorie day followed by a 500 cal. day. Dr. Johnson has a website about his study. I did a test market for a diet called the 1 day diet which was about the same concept. Set a goal and I will see you at the finish line.
My biggest problem is that I get bored fast and then say why am I the only one trying to lose weight? I'm not that OW it is easier to just eat whatever but then I feel like crap after and I swear I will never eat like that again if the heartburt, gas, and over all feeling of I want to die would just go away. I have strayed to many times and I am starting to remember that feeling of stuffed feel like ^%%^#$#.

I overate granola. Not exactly a low calorie food, but it's empty calories either. I'm doing better today. Yesterday, I hardly ate. I seem to overcompensate not deliberately after a day of overeating. It's like my body is trying to maintain a balance. I don't feel like eating today either. It's kind of weird.

I can relate so I am slamming on the breaks and re analyzing some of the eating habits I have picked up. Question "what is moose tracks ice-cream with M & M's on top? Dinner should not be the answer but I am busted tried and found guilty of eating things that would make a pregnant woman run the other way. I am back to tracking all foods.
OK challenge for us if you like. Set a short term goal, we all race to our own goals and the first one to reach their goal gets bragging rights. When the first person reaches their goal we all reset our goal. The reset goal could be the same or different. So if my goal is to reach 120 pounds which is 6 pounds away and I reach 122(hope) when someone else reaches their goal then my new goal could still be 122 which then would be 2 pounds or I could change it to 118 which would then be 4 pounds. When you reach your goal post the emoticon and you get to do the emoticon happy dance.
So I get to start I will reset my weight tracker and set my goal to be 6 pounds which would put me at 121 the number I was pre IC&MM thing.

I will work on eliminating refined sugar from my diet - again!

A nutritionist? I wounder how her/his advise would differ from what I wrote in my book. Giving up sugar is a hard one but I know it is worth it. I had Ice cream yesterday (free day) so look out apples and pineapple. I love broccoli and why do others look at you funny when you say you are having it for lunch? Keep me posted on a month with out suger for you I go many days with out sugar and I don't get headachs. You know how somepeople have reactions to caffine? I have them to sugar but I love it so I am with you on your journey. I am really looking forward to a month of healthy eating.

I'm cutting out ALL the sugar from my diet, and only allowed to eat it on my FREE days, which I have planned out for the month.

I also had a nutritionist create a nutrition plan to help rev up my metabolism, it includes much more protein then I used to eat... but I like it!

I am trying to get somethings done around the house -painting and new floor- big jobs. I was so afraid that if I didn't log into sparks I would have more time but I just keep thinking I have come so far I'm not letting things slide back. Every day I keep thinking of my goal and what I can do today to help reach it. I keep thinking when I want to eat; what time is it? is it time to eat or do I just want to eat because I don't want to do something else. When I was in China I watched the people on the street and no one was eating. I did ask someone that travels a lot why and one of the reasons they said was because they couldn't afford the foods you eat while walking. Now the food was great over there and you would see the people eatting in the cafes at meal times. It was all the mindless eating you didn't see. I didn't miss these snacks and I ate alot at meal time. I ate until i was full or till I had enough. They had fruit for desert at their meals. No 7 layer brownie hot fudge icecream thing. For May I am saying I am willing to eat high nutrition 6 days a week with 1 day off not to pig out but to allow me a sugar item of my choice. I don't know about the rest of you but I am losing my need to chow down on junk.

I decided to change my goal to a pound a week which dropped by calories back to the 1200 to 1550 range. The range went higher when I set my goal to a later diet. It was rather interesting see how having a goal of half a pound a week was altered by raising the level of calories burning a week and the goal of a pound a week so far stays the same.

I realize that I'm small and SP doesn't go lower than 1200 calories to 1550 calories a day no matter how low the number in the calculation. I suppose this means by their calculation I should be losing less than a pound a week and more than half a pound a week at the minimum calorie level allowed by the program.

I'll stay at this level for the month of May and see how it turns out. At least, I can have an idea how many calories I really need to lose weight. I suppose what I'm willing to do to lose weight is play with the settings of SP until I find what works for me.

I need to agree with the calories in drinks. I tend to like all those high calorie beverages. I can go for months without a drink and then one week it is drinks with friends couple times a week. I am curbing that habit.
I am also a pub food fan. oh so dangerous to the waistline.

You have tpo be from the midwest. No one except other people from the midwest understand football. Camping is another time that is hard. Nothing like a few drinks starting from when you start the campfire. On Sat. we always have chili so the fire is started right after or during breakfest. I'm telling you we people from WI know how to relax. I do get my walking in all weekend. I try to get a site a safe distance from the flush bath house. I better check your page. If I remember right you are from MIN. Beer and college frat parties I tell you I tried not to let all that homework interfere with my social life. I was the party rep for the floor so I har to make sure we were parting with the right people.
I am having fun flash backs. The best football games were the vikings/ packers or the packers/ bears games. I was at UW Stout. And yes you are right that is the place the football team was subsidizing their income by selling drugs. To darn funny.

I don't lnow what has more calories, the drinks or the food you eat when you get the munchies. Supper subs really pack a punch at midnight. I just remember all the stupid things I did when I drank. I care not to repeat this. Talk about whip out the pig nose. have you ever thought about what you look like eating pizza at 2 am drunk? OMG TMI. Do not repeat. Who was that actor?? Richard Gear that was laying on the floor eating mac and dons drunk? I almost have to laugh at what we use to think was fun and it was but that was 20+ years ago.

I stopped drinking about 4 months ago because of calories and how much I would drink. I was just going to do it until I hit my goal weight but when I got there I decided that it wasn’t worth it any more. Not just the calories but it just wasn’t as fun as it used to be. I did have one drinking binge last month and felt like crap the next day. That just reminded me of why I stopped drinking in the first place. Good luck, I am sure you will get some good laughs watching everyone else stumble around…I know I have!

Never really thought of it that way but your right. Those calories add up fast. Maybe that's why they call it a beer gut. I just feel better when I eat healthy and work out. I am willing to work out 3 days at curves and run 2 @ 1.75 miles each time.

Good job on these goals and I would like to add mine. As stupid as it sounds no seconds. This sounds so stupid to me as I sit here right now but when I am at a chinese restaurant how often do we use the words load up? I wrote a book that U want to get to market and one of the concepts is to never take a new plate when at a picnic because then you get the mind set of first time. For the month if it doesn't fit on the plate the first time I don't eat it. This way my brain will see what all it is going to eat then I can quick do a calorie count guess. and I am done eating. I will note pad all food. Logging food into sparks is a hard thing for me to do so 1 goal at a time. I am trying real hard to keep and lose with out having to log what I eat to keep me on track. The other concepts in my book really help like eat in color and white is for toilet paper. and kwick trip is your friend because it sells fruit under .50 a pc. not per bag. I have adapted the alternative emergency food concept.

I can so relate to it smells better than I know it will taste. My daughter and I rate food on a scale of 1-10 so when you see the food you remember the rating. We have ratings for most of the culvers flavors because we are such ice-cream nuts.

What are you willing to do to reach your goals?

I am doing everything I can to maximize fat loss (not weight loss, there's a difference).

1. I am eating clean every meal, except one or two meals a week. 5-6 meals a day. I'm in the eating clean team.
2. I cycle my calories to not get into a plateau. Calorie cycling team.
3. I do cardio every day, first thing in the morning. Experts say that cardio before eating anything burns more fat.
4. I do weight training 3 times a week, two exercises per muscle group. Iron maidens team.
5. I drink 8 glasses of water a day, at least.
6. I track everything, calories, fitness, weight, bodyfat percentage, measurements. That's how I know I'm making progress.
7. Log in sparkpeople for support and information from my teammates everyday.

I'm Joon. I'm 5'.

I too avoid fats but trying to improve upon this. I have been adding a tsp of canola oil to my oatmeal every morning and trying to stir fry veggies or put a tsp of oil on my popcorn at night to increase my fat intake. I am not getting all of my fat yet but have been doing much better!

The thing that sets me back is my fear of fats. I am going to be incorporating more healthy fats into my diet. This helps bust through plateaus like nothing else, and I know that's the reason why I've been stuck at 140 for over a month. My diet is too lowfat, with not enough essential, "good" fats such as those found in olive oil, avocados, fish, nuts, etc... I don't know why I avoid them sometimes; it was just the thing that helped me get over plateaus in the past and accelerated my fat loss.

I am an all-or-nothing kind of person. I had done so well on SP and had even lost most of my sweet tooth. But then I got complacent and used work stress as an excuse and gained about 1/2 my weight back. It has been said that if you want different results, you have to do something different! Yes, I am doing quite a bit of "repairing & repenting", but I am coming back.

My biggest weakness is sugar! So, I'm really trying to greatly reduce it. Also, working out more at the gym. Our gym is doing a "Biggest Loser" challenge, with weekly & monthly challenges, so that's really motivating me.

I'm finding that I need to re-think some things about food. For example, I really "need" to have some kinda candy EVERY DAY (mini oreos, mini m&ms, etc.), but what I'm trying to do now is maybe have that stuff 3-4 times/week. Also, eating more "sugar-free" desserts - like Jello & pudding.

I'm so glad that I never got into beer or any alcohol (can't stand the stuff) because I get addicted to things so easily. Right now, I'm trying to stop (or at least reduce) binge eating in general.

I gave up beer for 3 months and just recently had a drink for the 1st time last week. I am happy to say I wasn't missing much and I am not going back to my drunken days. I also gave up soda. How is the ice cream going? Sometimes if I tell myself I can't have something I want it even more.

The funny thing about cheese is I never even liked it as a kid . . . now that I have come to appreciate those rare/grown-up kinds I decide those cute pants you are referring mean more to me. What a bummer! :)

I admire you for being able to walk into those place. I have to look the other way when I pass through a deli with baked goods! :)

Tammie, I'm right there with you about the cheese and crackers! When I think about how much I used to eat (I never ate just 1 oz, more like 1 pound!), I'm amazed I didn't gain more weight than I did. I still love cheese and I don't really like the low-fat kind, so I rarely have it anymore. But really, it's a small price to pay for being able to fit into my cute pants again. :)

I had coffee at a bakery downtown yesterday and I bypassed all the luscious things in their display case. I can still visualize some of the treats although I can't remember the names. Sometimes, the food is better imagined than actually tasted. I find that chocolate is always better imagined than actually eaten. It's like I have these expectations that it will taste so much better than it actually does.

I feel weird when I go into a bakery or candy store just to smell or look at the treats, but often that is more satisfying in some strange way. The creme filling looks so good, but I know that it will probably heavy on my stomach, I can only eat a few drops without feeling overwhelmed and it's never the same after a day in the refrigerator and I hate wasting food.

You are all making me hungry. :) I love cheese and crackers . . . I had no idea how much I love cheese and crackers. I have high cholesterol so the cheese wasn't good anyway, but I refuse to having nothing of something I love, until now. I will have it every now and again, but now when I look at it I don't see cheese, I see calories I could better spend somewhere else!

Hmmmm... Moosetracks.. I haven't had any of that type in a long time. Thankfully, I've never been a beer person, but I do enjoy the occasional cocktail. And I've gotten in the habit of drinking water if I eat out as well which isn't very often.

I was falling far behind in my tracking. I had stopped working out and wasn't even tracking my food. The only good thing I maintained is that I didn't pick up a Dr. Pepper which was my vice before I started with SP. I still won't drink anything but water, even when I go out to eat. Since I had fallen so far, I took a drastic step. I joined a 30 day work-out boot camp through my job. Today was the first day and I thought I would die. I realized how fat and out of shape I am. But after the cost of the boot camp, I can't quit. There are other people there a lot more overweight than I am and I was the slowest person, so THAT is motivation.

It's not what you have, it's what you do with it that counts.

I'm talking moose tracks. Beer is a hard one and once in a while I will have a drink but I really think about how I will feel after, what I could eat instead, how many calories it contains, if it will cause a eating thing, it is a trigger item (munchies), can I stop at 1 (asti- no- maybe 1 bottle)How stupid will I act because it has been so long sence I drank it hits my pretty hard. It is almost to much work to drink. I almost take the fun out of enjoying a drink. Once in a while I do drink.

Good luck.. I have a bit of a sweet tooth so I know when I start really getting to the lower pounds I want, I will have to rethink some of my really stupid choices. I've been really good about moderating what junk I do eat. My favorite Ice Cream that I've found is the Dreyer's slow churned. 1/2 a cup of Vanilla Bean is only 100 calories.

You can do it :-) !!! I gave up beer (I was having it daily) because it was the one thing I had in my eating habits that was really, really sidetracking me. Now I have a glass or two of wine each week and I can't tell you what a change it has made. Good luck :-)

I ask this because I think I am stuck at 123 until I start making a few more changes to my diet. I love ice-cream and eat to much of it. I am going to try no ice-cream for a month. Don't tell me about I can have it but limit it to 1/2 a cup. I fill the bowl and am willing to work out to counter act it.
Spring has spring and it is time for new beginnings so I am ready to give this a test. Anyone else rethinking some of their food choices? I wonder how much I will be looking forward to May 1st or will I form the habit of ice cream is only eaten out.
