9. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.

This promise means so much to me, too! It seems my whole life I was surrounded by people who told me I needed to change my attitude. But no one could tell me HOW to do it. What a relief to find that as a result of working the Steps, my attitude did change. Now when I'm aware there's something wrong with my attitude, I concentrate on the Steps. The Steps are something concrete that I can work on -- then my attitude changes as a result. I can't make my attitude and outlook change by self-will. I can work the Steps.

Let's walk!

Anytime! :) I especially like:

9. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.

I used to be so depressed all the time and I still struggle from depression from time to time, but that is of the greatest things I've discovered since I became sober is that I laugh more, I smile more, I can handle things that used to put me in a funk (and binge) better. I still get stressed out but I have learned to start looking at it better and say the serenity prayer CONSTANTLY (sometimes I am mumbling it to myself 3 or 4 times a day!) and am learning to "accept the things I cannot change" because control is a big issue for me and I get stressed out and I am learning to just let it go, it's going to be what it's going to be, and just life take its natural flow.

The 12 Promises

The 12 promises are from pps. 83-84 of the Big Book.
If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through . . .

1. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.

2. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.

3. We will comprehend the word serenity.

4. We will know peace.

5. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.

6. That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.

7. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.

8. Self-seeking will slip away.

9. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.

10. Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us.

11. We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.

12. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fullfilled among us - sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always materialize if we work for them.
