I had an entire back row tell me that I hadn't assigned homework, while 3 kids in the front row quietly handed it in. When quizzed how they knew, one of them told the others, " I don't really know. It was written in my assignment pad. I must have put it there when she wrote it on the board."
Google Docs lost everything I typed.... this is especially interesting when the revision history shows that nothing was ever typed in the document. It's the modern version of "the dog ate my homework."

I get this response all the time. Other classes are more important than mine too, and mine is the mathematics class (along with English) the students need to pass to be promoted to the next grade. I guess I am too "nice" and allow students to turn HW in late (with a penalty of course)
"I had to work on an assignment for another class and ran out of time...."
Apparently all classes are more important that mine, because I have caught them working on other assignments in my classroom!.....of course my class is just Math, English, Science, History.....I`m sure those subjects are much more important.

I gave a group project and each group had to decide what each individual was bringing in the next class so that they could work on it. I checked with every group to see that everyone had made an assignment list. The next class a student's excuse was that they didn't feel like writing down their assignment so their group member was supposed to text them it and they never texted it. The assignment was literally two words: balsamic vinegar, but the student claimed it was the other group members fault and they didn't remember it. I laughed and walked away.
I watched a student complete the homework 2nd period in my study hall. He returned to math class 5th period with out. His response: "It caught on fire in science class. I can get you some of the pieces from garbage can in science but they're a little wet." Checked with science and it was true...
