every day there a new drugs & items...Choose Wisely... one must weigh the cost...i.e. every drug has side effects and most of them are worse than the original problem...somewhere along the line the oath to do no harm has been lost.

My stress level has been reduced so much, since most of it was work related. Changed jobs and it's just amazing the difference. I loved working with my athletes at both of my prior jibs and it was hard to leave them but this was for me. I only work around 40 hours per week instead of 80. I actually have time for me, my family, and friends. emoticon

Did you make someone smile today?

Still trying to get all the Christmas stuff done! Still have to bake, decorate some more, write out cards, and finish shopping. Oh..then wrapping too!
Stressed out today at work. Came home &, instead of pigging out, I ate ONE piece of chocolate and had a cup of Chocolate Raspberry coffee. Deep breathes!!! AAAH - much better! emoticon emoticon

I've been at sixes and nines all day, today. Not stress, just . . . .
Madlila, I also stay with the challenge to keep the stress down. Don't know why I stress easily, but I do. Good luck with H&R Block - sounds like fun with a purpose.

Was laid off in Sept, started the HR Block tax Course that week, and just completed the course. I'll start the final training in mid Dec. I've stayed with the challenge even though I already completed it. Great way to keep the stress manageable.

So sorry you're sad, MOOMSHINE. The holidays are always so tough, I think because we have all these hopeful expectations. Sounds like you're managing to stay on track and motivated though. Way to go!
I hope that things get much better and that you do something nice for yourself (bubble bath?)

I am so stressed out right now. Visiting dd with her in-laws, and my recently widowered db. dd and I have never become friends; she has so much distain for me. My brother is great, but so sad. Her in-laws are just plain unpleasant. Now the holidays are coming and we will be all alone for the first time ever. Feeling very stressed because I'm sad. Fortunately, we are having a family reunion at Eastertime, and I have that to look forward to. - this sadness I'm feeling will soon pas.
on the flip side, so far, I've only eaten 100 cals over goal all weekend, I've managed to get in 30 min of walking each day, and have even sneaked in some strength training. I don't think the scale will be too hard on me tomorrow.

Back off vacation and thinking I may need to restart this challenge because the flying part of the vacation stressed me out so much! Not sure why, but it seems like inserting yourself and stuff into the aircraft and seat and then extricating yourself is so over the top. They pack those planes so much that I swear they are never going to get off the ground and then when they do, it's a sigh of relief and coming down is prayer for help because I feel like they can't stop. I think they burned breaks on the last stop because it smelled so bad.

They want 25 bucks for the first bag, and 35 bucks for the second bag. We get two carry ons. I think we were the only two with only two bags, a rolling suitcase that fit in the overhead and a briefcase each. The stuff people drag along! Some looked like bag people moving! Seemed like no one was restricted. But they kept telling us the plane was full and that they would check our bags for free because they would not all fit. So we opted to go that route. It helped getting in and out, but we waited at both ends for a short time so it was really nice actually, but I was still stressed. Interesting thing was there were about 25% of the seats with no one in them.

I counted seats to overhead sections. 9 seats to 4 bags. That left a lot of bags off the plane. They would tell us that we could only put one in the overhead and the smallest of the two had to fit under the seat in front of us. Good grief! - where do your feet go?

Other than that, it was alright - I just don't know where all the stress comes from for us when traveling by air! Would like to just once fly and not feel so stressed out! it used to be fun!

Well, back to life again! emoticon

I hope everyone is doing well. It's tough out there, especially with the seasons we are heading into, but if you make your plans ahead of time and stick to them, you'll do great. I know you can do it. If I can - and I am - anyone can because I am the most easily swayed person in the world, but I have managed to overcome that, too and so can you.

The way I look at it is like this: Halloween - I'll TREAT myself to a snack, meal, day without overindulging or eating something I know I don't need or want or because I will not allow myself to be swayed off my plan.
Christmas - The gift I give myself is to be on plan or not swayed off my plan.

It's all attitude and don't think I think I've got it all down, cuz I'm still working on it and will be for the rest of my life. But I have learned that attitude is the first step in the process, and it's the one thing that will help you all the way through.

Have a great one! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Great Job, Leewolf! All success is great!

I loved the challenge. I know my stress has been reduced, and it took getting rid of something I seemed to know I could not handle but refused to give up on until I absolutely had to. I feel so much better. And I notice, now trying to find another job, that I'm not letting any stress build up. I've been doing some exercises to release the stress and I've been doing some real physical exercise to reduce weight and it's all coming together.

Before when I heard that stress could make one gain weight, or prevent them from losing it, I didn't believe it. But I know different now and losing the stress is helping me lose the weight too. It sort of happened at the same time to prove that the world isn't crazy. I might be, but the whole world isn't.

Have a great one! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

when I had started this challenge, I was hoping that it could help. during the first 4 weeks I had some tests to see how well it was working. and I was happy with the outcome. I have continued with the program. all of it. I can't believe just how much it has helped. if I thought I had tests before well I am having exams these last 2 weeks. and I have been amazed at how much things have been easier to handle than before. I am so glad I went through with this challenge.

Well, I'm not going to win any consistency awards for journaling, but at least I'm not stressed about it :). I have, however managed to incorporate a brief morning meditation into my daily routine, and that sets the tone for my day. I wish I had done this when I was working.

I have also stopped the obsessive weigh-ins, which were nothing but stress.

Good luck, everyone. Don't give up!

Work up with sore muscles from yesterdays workout in the pool, but just got going and now the soreness is gone. Hate having to rebuild my muscles after surgery, but had no choice in the dormant time while waiting for them to heal. But I've got my plan and I'm working it.

My stress level has gone down since I started this challenge and is staying down. I've figured out my triggers and a plan of defense against them and I'm working it.

Have a great day!

emoticon Good Morning Team...
I am sore BUT not as sore as I would imagine after so much time in the last two days working outside.guess while I am using muscles I usually don't use I am kinda like a car and burning away the carbon from my system..and while I enjoy being in my gardens I really want to get to the gym and in the pool for some nice less impact on my body exercise. Have a lot of tree branches to deal with emoticon before I do that.

Our felling trees is just the end result of insects, disease as secondary causes of drought for years. Trees become attractive to both when stressed and drought is a stressor. Check my page to see my windbreak...I removed two pines that grew between my black hills spruce and blue spruce.
I hope to put a fairy house, or two in their place and move some hostas there to make a shade glen.

Hi Ho Hi Ho It's back to work I go!emoticon

I think I may have trouble with figuring a way to work full time and still keep my stress low, and apply my workout habits. I worked so hard applying good eating habits, great workouts, and good friendships through Sp Blog and groups.( I was spoiled being off work through the week)

Deep breathing, meditating and reading inspirational messages has really changed how I few the things that in the past would have really bothered me. I have found a calm within me. This is great.

I completed this challenge and learned a lot about making time for ME. I decided to set up a corner in my bedroom for just that. Massage chair, good lighting for reading, window to watch the world go by (from the 10th floor). I spent a few minutes there this morning and it was wonderful. Can't wait to watch a sunrise from that spot!
HAPPY SUNDAY everyone.

This is the first day of the rest of my life. I chose it to be healthy and happy!

I am looking forward to my 25 year service awards this November 15th. We just bought a new to us (read used) car and while that was an overwhelming search I am just really happy we have now made our selection. We are looking to more change in the upcoming months but I can make the choice to look at the glass half full instead of half empty. Glad that we can keep coming back to this site even though week 5 has happened. Lets get to the beyond.......sounds like a Star Trek destination, doesn't it? Well keep busting that stress everyone and keep saving some time for yourself. Remember the roller coaster ride of life does not have to take a toll on you. Just enjoy the ride!

Sorry to hear that, Kathy - it should surely have been explained to you previously! At least you got yourself sorted and managed to get on with the test, though. Well done!

I got stressed out during my stress test. I thought it was only going to be me, the cardiologist, and tech in the room with me. There were other patients and 20 others observing. Went into a-fib before test started from all the chattering going on and stares. But once I got going on the treadmill got back into sinus rhythm. I am in a heart study with my cardiologist.

This challenge came along for me just when I needed it most. I was under a lot of stress which provided ample opportunity to try the de-stress ideas out and see if they really worked. They really do help and so did the support and ideas given during each discussion week. Thank you all, the best to you all, and may life be kind to you.

I am taking today off from exercise. Not because I need to, but because I want to. I have been a bit obsessive for 2.5 months, so now it's time to lounge around and enjoy a day off from working out. I will not eat horribly, or drink or party, but just reading a book, maybe watch a movie and chill out. :)

If that isn't stress busting, I don't know what is!

Today started out HORRIBLY!!! I woke up at 3 a.m. on the first day of classes!!! I tried so hard to get back to sleep and stayed in bed til about 430. Then I just got up and started working on the computer. I shot out a quick email to a mentor of mine explaining how the mean guy yesterday really angered me. Then it was about 630 and time to get going. First, I took my BP -- 141/101!!!! NOT GOOD!!!! I could feel the high blood pressure headache building, tried some of my stress reduction techniques, but was FARRRR too worked up to concentrate or relax. Got to work and immediately, things started getting better. My colleagues gathered around and stood beside me, trying to help me cope with yesterday's insults and rudeness toward me. emoticon I did feel better immediately! I had printed out the De-stress in 3 minutes sheet and pinned it on my office wall where I could see it and concentrate every day. emoticon I got a lot of work done and then off to my first class. It was AWESOME and I felt GREAT! Then, miracle of miracles, my Chair actually came and sat down and for the first time in 7 YEARS, I felt like he actually HEARD me and was LISTENING to me instead of competing with me or trying to argue me down. This is one of those cases where there were no two sides -- I was right and he was wrong. Period. So I felt awesome being heard. Immediately, it softened me towards him. Then another colleague came by and we had a great brainstorming meeting and came up with a stellar idea. I came home, my DH had cooked spaghetti and drawn me a hot bubble bath. I stayed in the tub for 3 hours!!! I couldn't be more relaxed right now. It ends up being a great day.emoticon

And despite what I said in my post several days ago - today has been deep breathing and finding something else to think about.
Oh well, at least I met some of it head on last night, which has helped, and gone out and seen to more of it this afternoon.
The stressors will be in place till Thursday at the earliest, then reduce only slightly for a coup,e of days - hopefully by Monday next week, my deep breath will be for fresh air rather than a stress-reliever!

I thank God for SparkPeople and for FlyLady.

I'm having to fall back on what I've learned here, yet again.
I am so glad that I did this 4 week challeng. I keep finding myself edging back to too much stress, every so often.
I know I can deal with it. I have proven to myself that I can deal with it. Now, I can use some short cuts - what is causing my stress - what will be my best way to deal with it.
And it largely comes from what I learned about myself and what I taught myself during the challenge here.

I know this is week 5 and read some of your messages. I know that anxiety and stress go together and anxiety can cause stress. My husband goes through this daily aand he is on medication for it. myself also have anxiety problems and I have tried to deal without medication because i can not afford it. I have taken walks and breathing exercises and a stress ball and also have a cat that sit with me and allows me to pet him and that helps. I see a counselor once a week and she helps me with Ideas. hopefully my ideas will help you out.

this will help my new challenge.

LAWOMAN2 - that is why this thread was set up!

This past several weeks my stress levels have been building up again.
There is no single cause for this.
I added a couple of things into my week, then family and personal problems cropped up.

So eventually I sat down and thought it all through. Then I was able to see what there was that I couldn't affect other than going with the roll. And therefore what I was left with, what I could control or deal with.
I eventually decided that all I could do to create my own control over everything was to come out of a discussion group that I had signed up for *before* the other matters arose.
Despite my disappointment with myself for pulling out of that group, the results have been well good - like next morning I actually woke up without a headache, for a change.
I'm still suffering the tension headaches, but not anywhere near as bad or as often.
My other stress causes don't seem to be causing me as much stress as before. Sometimes the 3 deep breaths is working for me again, at least to some extent.

Thank goodness, and thank SP, I am able to feel much more in control this time.

I'm really getting stressed over tomorrow. They are doing a re-dedication of a softball field for my mom (which is a great thing) and I just ran all day trying to get things together.

I just don't have time to use the stress coping techniques that have been helping. Anybody have an idea for some quick and calming?

My youngest son came home today very upset to the point that he couldn't catch his breath(bully situation). Therefore it made me really stressed and concerned. Now worry and anxiety is kicking in big time. All I can do is use my de-stress techniques, teach them to my son, and deal with the situation in a positive constructive manner.
