I've just completed my first 5k walk virtual race in 57 minutes and 37 seconds. At the moment I'm second but only 3 people that did the 5k walk have put their time in emoticon

I've signed up for next week, I'm going to try and beat my personal best.

Congratulation on finishing the 5K Training program and doing your first 5K. I did my virtual 5K WALK on July 2nd and bettered my first 5K time by 4 minutes 35 seconds, even though I was the last one to finish that day.

On Saturday June 25th I walked my first 5K in 60 minutes. That finished my 5K Walking Training Program and I got my trophy.

I walked my 1 mile today. It took me 27 minutes. That's not fast but likely the fastest I'll get with walking on rough, rocky roads, having asthma and having a fear of falling because I have osteoporosis.

The important thing for me is not speed, it is finishing the 5K.

I got my 1 mile in today (give or take a few feet as I am trying to convert from kilometers). I also managed to jog for 9 minutes in addition to the walk. I know that 's not part of the 5k challenge, but I am doing a 5k marathon next weekend, and I want to see if I can run even a tiny bit of it.

To cut a long story short, a friend talked me into doing a Couch-to-5K program a while back. There was no way that I'd go through with the program but I ended up doing just that. I hadn't run a step since High School, and hated every minute of it back then.

Fast forward to right now. I've done several 5K's, a few 10K's and am now training for my first half marathon.

If you just plug away at it, and stay with the program, who knows what you can do?

I just signed up for the 5K training program! It's funny cause I am doing a 5 k this coming weekend, but I've never done one before. I am not sure how much of it I will walk/run, but at least it gets me out doing stuff. Thanks for the suggestion.

On July 2nd we are going to have a neighborhood 5K Walk/Run. I will be walking. I've never done this before so I joined a 5K Walking Training program on SparkPeople. It does not look complicated. It only requires walking 3 times a week. I did my first walk today and it was for 15 minutes. Once you join the 5K training program it put me on a team of others going through the program. Once I walk my 5K I will get a special SparkPeople Trophy!

I think that this is a good program, and not too strenuous for me/anyone else who wants to increase their walking fitness this summer. It is actually cooler here on the equator in the summer so walking is easier.
