Funny you should mention this now. I just came down with a very short lived flu yesterday. I fought through keeping track of my food and water intake and it made me feel awful. I'm not going to force myself to do that anymore. I'm just going to take care of myself.

I don't really like to eat soup, but when I'm sick I want Trader Joe's chicken noodle and vegetable soup - it comes in a small box and it always makes me feel nourished. I'm scared to eat it when I'm healthy because I associate it with sick days! LOL
When I'm sick I also have a very hard time drinking plain water so I tint the water with a little bit of unsugared fruit juice.

I tend to stick with a nice cup of tea, and home-made chicken noodle soup. My mum used to always make bread and butter pudding when I was sick as a little girl, but I'd need to revamp the recipe to make it Spark friendly..

Chicken noodle soup, of course! And yes, preferably homemade, but if I'm the one that's sick and DH is heating it up, canned will do. Winter months I try to always keep a couple cans in the pantry. If tummy upset is included, we usually move to mac and cheese, or what has always worked for me, no matter how weird people think it is, plain toast with Miracle Whip on it, no butter or margarine.

Soup, sugar free jello, applesauce, oatmeal, etc. Foods that are light and easy to digest work for me!
Hot tea is good too!

I eat soup and hot tea usually. As a child my grandmother would make me milk toast. That always seemed to really hit the spot. As a young married woman I prepared it for myself and qwas so disappointed. The magic was gone. The love that was served with it was the magic. So now it's soup and tea.

I always have a hard time eating when I am sick. but I drink alot of water. It just depends what I am sick with and will usually eat what my body is hungry for-if I do eat.

Same thing you should eat when you are well. Although with cold symptoms, it is scientifically proven that chicken soup will help heal you faster.

I've always gone with "whatever you crave" when sick. Sometimes its comfort foods like Mac & cheese and sometimes its fruit - oranges never tasted so good! My feeling is that your body is trying to tell you something so as long as its within reason do it.
Oh, but its the best when you have someone around to make whatever it is that you're craving. I believe in pampering and being pampered when sick.

So the old saying, feed a cold, seems to be true. The hardest thing I usually have doing is drinking plenty of fluids. Eating though is basically whatever feels like it will set well in stomach.
Chicken Soup, it seems that is the only thing my body will accept. Not sure what it is but it usually is the only thing that will sit well in my stomach.By the way lots of sleep!

When you have a cold or the flu, what should you eat? SparkPeople has a good article making suggestions on how to care for yourself when ill and it also makes suggestions as to what to eat during that time. The article is entitled, "Self-Care Tips for Sick Days".
One interesting thing that the article says is, "During sick days, you should not worry about weighing and measuring your foods, counting calories, using the food tracker, or lowering your metabolism. In fact sickness, fever and infections increase your metabolism by about seven percent for each degree the body temperature rises above 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
I have a cold right now and fixed chicken soup for lunch yesterday. I don't often eat soup but it just sounded good. I also have a fruit juice drink in the fridge that has been sitting there for awhile and I opened it up and will drink from that today.
What do you like to eat when you are sick? Do you fix special foods? Do you stick with the remedy of "chicken soup"?
