Find a way to express yourself on your weight-loss journey. I personally love to blog, but having a friend or loved one who you call/text/e-mail daily is good too. Just make sure that you have an outlet for your excitement and frustration. There will be days that you will just want to complain and others where you need someone to recognize all of your hard work.

Stick with it! Even if you stumble, or "cheat", get back on and start again. Read the articles, try the exercises, find some you can do and keep doing them. Modify your food choices bit by bit as you can, and involve your family - cooking separate diets for them and you is just too hard! Keep trying. Learn to forgive yourself.

It depends on what they are looking for. If they are feeling overwhelmed by all the information on this site, I ask them to pick one thing they want to do first, so I (or someone) can better steer them in the right direction.

Mine would be: Set up a page. It doesn't need to be fancy, you can change it later on. Find other members who inspire you and that you have something in common with who will support you. Blog about your feelings about your journey at least twice a week. You'd be amazed at what great suggestions for changes in your life that you can get from other members!
The big one too is: Don't get attached to perfection. I don't think anyone here has done this without setbacks, plateaus and giving in to a temptation now and then. Forgive yourself for them and move forward again!

I think you've summed it up in a nutshell Carolyn... and make it a lifestyle. There are going to be bumps in the road and scary/frustrating dips on the rollercoaster, but if you fall of the wagon, run your tooshie off to get back on, because we're all here to support you, knowing you'll do the same for us!!!

My advice: Do not join many teams. Join only those that you are really interested in. Don't be afraid to leave teams that do not help you meet your goals. Join in Official SparkPeople challenges and those presented by your teams but not too many at a time. Do not try to make too many changes in your lifestyle at once but try to take it slowly. Never QUIT. Take it one day at a time. Just don't QUIT!
