Mrs. Avery, thank you for coming up with this challenge, oh do I need it. I must drink 8 glasses of water EVERY day. I will go weeks and can't get enough water, drinking 10 - 12 glasses a day. Then I won't drink any water all day, or only drink 1-3 glasses a day.

I am going to be successful this time because I am making water a priority. I will not go to bed unless I have drunk 8 glasses. And I have learned from experience, if I drink water to late at night, I am up all night in the bathroom. So the decision is mime, drink 8 glasses during the day or pay the price at night. A few nights of not getting enough sleep may just be what I need to finally get my water intake where it should be.

I am drinking water now, I want to sleep tonight.

This is the year to get to Oneunderland.

This may sound lame, but mine is to figure out my motivation and find out where it went to. I'm back to fighting eating healthy. Never have made it to regular exercise yet

Great challenge. The first thing that I wan to say is that my wieght goal is still to achieve 120. I just got back from Vegas, so I am sure that I am up 5 pounds, so I will have about ten to lose. Secondly, I want to have a regular exercise program. Even if it is just consistent walking or running. Nothing extraordinary yet. I also want to start regular fitness training. But I think that the most important goal is to stop making excuses for not doing the things that I say that I want to do. Until I get that one done, I know I won't do the others.

Funny, like JAYJAY44, I took a look at my SparkPage the other day and realized that a goals overhaul was looooong overdue. That's going to be my big fancy project tomorrow morning over a cup of coffee (laptop open, pretending to be doing 'actual work' in order to avoid family interruptions, long weekend stretching out before me like a blank canvas...)

I'm general terrible at achieving my goals, or really at keeping them in mind altogether (very inspiring, I know.). I tend to focus on the mechanics and forget the big picture. So... If I had to pick one goal area where I consistently fall short, it would be "tracking my goals"!

To get around it this time, to make things different and get me back on track, I'll attach some concrete, sexy rewards for myself AND throw my new goals up on my SparkPage for all to see.

I'll also open the floor to all my goal-challenged Turtle pals, and all the high achievers too: Come on by and CALL ME OUT on what I've committed to!

Actually the park-further-away-and-walk challenge continues to inspire me.

My goal is to find other ways to increase the number of steps I take each day.

A women is often measured by the things she cannot control.
She is measured by the way her body curves or doesn't curve, by where she is flat or straight or round.
She is measured by 36-24-36 and inches and ages and numbers, by all the outside things that don't ever add up to who she is on the inside.
And so if a women is to be measured, let her be measured by the things she can control;
by who she is and who she is trying to become.
Because as every women knows, measurement

Went to the gym this morning and got on the arc trainer and set the resistance at 4. Now that might not seem like a lot but for me it is. And I did 1 mile. So my next goal will be a resistance of 4 and do 1.5 miles. Also I was on the elliptical and did 45 mins at a resistance of 6. Now I will say again that doesn't seem like a lot but these machines are not easy. So I'm proud of myself for kicking my own butt into gear!! Thanks!!!

Further along than I am but I wouldn't be a slowest loser if I was where I wanted to be with my goals. My main goal is to at least not gain while struggling to lose.

Hmm, well I guess I tend to look at it more in the way that I usually make my goals a little unreasonable and so then of course I don't reach them. Like how much i want to lose each month, is always an ideal goal, but I don't know if I've ever achieved the weight goals I set each month...but that doesn't mean that I didn't do good or that I failed. But if I make really easy goals that I know I can achieve no problem, that doesn't help me either. So, I find making helpful goals to be very difficult, but that trying is better than nothing for sure.

I hope to get back to really focusing soon and then maybe i will be able to come up with really powerful goals. Loving the good ideas from other people!

MRS. AVERY, Funny how you happened to come up with this challenge at the very time I've been re-evaluating my goals.

Looking back at times when I was at my fighting weight, I realize they were happy and active filled times. Life doesn't have the same "spark" as it once did and I think it's reflected in my weight gain. I'm on a fixed income now that I've retired and just can't do a lot of the things that made me happy and kept my spirits up. My friends and I are going through similar things and we just don't get together as much anymore.

I've been working at losing weight with the same mindset as when my life was more active. In order to stick to my goals now, I think I have to CHANGE my mindset to accommodate the lifestyle I'm now living and once I've done that I think the old "spark" will return in a new me!

Admittedly I haven't quite figured it all out but I do know that I'm responsible for my own happiness and the choice is mine to live a happy, healthy and holy life!

Jane

I like your goal Mrs_Avery of walking the dogs -- I have three furry friends who ask me "what about my walk?" I too strive to give them each a walk daily -- will put that at the top of my list now emoticonemoticonemoticon

Mine is making the resistance on the elliptical higher than 6. My excuse is that it is so hot that I can't do it even though the gym is a/c'ed at 70 degrees. Also, I will begin to use the Arc Trainer more with more resistance.

Oh my poor hounds. I always promise them a walk. So my goal of walking the dogs, is one of the goals that I WANT to do, walk them daily. But of course, it is one of the goals that I fail at more often than not.

Reasons for my failure: Excuses, nothing but unjustifiable excuses. It is too hot, it is too early, I didn't get to bed on time to walk them before work, I'm too tired, blah blah blah. All the while, my two furry friends are yearning for a walk.

Why will I succeed this time: I'm leaving the excuses behind. Literally! I'm making walking the dogs priority in my life. If I can't walk the dogs, then I can't go to work, and consequently I won't get paid. So I better walk the dogs!

This is an easy challenge, but hard at the same time. Let's think really really hard about what do we want out of our goals? Are they reasonable? Are they doable? Are you really going to commit this time?

Once you've given it some real thought, let us know one goal you have regularly failed or quit at, and tell us how and why you will be successful this time.

BTW - the challenge is to think and be honest with yourself, not to achieve the goal.
