I also dropped dinner plates in favor of snack size, & I fill our plates 1ce only - you can refuse something but no substitutes and no seconds. I use 1 cup or1/2 cup size bowls to serve heftier foods such as refried beans, fruit, cottage cheese so portions remain in proper scale.

That's what I always do! Several months ago, after my husband passed away, I started looking at flea markets and Goodwill and bought several 9" plates -- china, ironstone, no paper or plastic! I bought several smaller bowls too for chili and stew. I packed all the matching dishes up and now dinner is fun! AND I don't eat as much!
