Thank you Laura, but I would say we are all blessed to have found this site and be here together in this struggle. It's hell to feel you are alone at this. Just logging in and seeing what else is going on with others makes you say, "hey I've been there" or 'done that' or "WOW, no kidding, I never would have thought of"... such and such.' You learn something new every time. It's a miracle.

The disease I have is hereditary. I did NOT know that when I had my girls. They are afraid to be tested. Although they know what they could be doing now to make things easier for them when/if they should get it; they refuse to do these things. So I have to keep fighting to show them that I can still live a worthwhile life, and so can they.

I'm with you Erin. I'm just working on not being dependant on the wheelchair all the time and really need to keep constant work on my muscles. I have a debilitating disease so it is a constant battle and one that I have not quit on. The doctors never felt that I would walk again and at one point half my body was paralyzed. I kept at it and day by day, with help, strength from a higher source, acupuncture, and stubburnness, I am walking (okay, it looks funny, but I am walking, LOL). And I am doing more and more every day. That is my motivation. It helps so much to lose the weight that I desperately need to get off too. I'm not quitting, just taking it slowly, one step at a time.

My exercise is walking and aerobics. My dog is a huge motivator for me. When I see the joy he gets when my sneakers go on, I get excited to hit the trail. Friends also motivate me. I go to the gym and have met some friends that I look forward to seeing 3 times a week. When I don't see one of them there, something is missing and they make me feel like I am missed when I don't make it to the gym. The biggest motivator is how I feel after I exercise. I have more energy and the endorphins start kicking in. When I miss a day, I can tell.

Ha..I know this is silly but SWEAT motivates me to exercise! I like to feel my heart pounding..I imagine the fat burning process in my head and can literally feel it melting off!!! I miss it if I don't get to the gym!

My morning motivation is I like to exercise to start my days off right and reap the extra energy it produces.
By strapping on my pedometer as soon as my feet hit the floor it keeps me accountable and motivated to MOVE and not sit.
Once the bus leaves with my son, my 2 furry coaches (Nitro & Bruin) are spinning in circles and my constant shadows until I grab their leashes and off we go for their 1 mile walk or more. This is my warm up session which inspires me upon returning them home to sip a quick bit of water, grab the ipod and off I GO walking to my own beat for a few miles.

For me I try hard not to emphasize on the scale number. This is for the longetivity of my health so I look for results in my health numbers, energy level, stress level, fitness level, and clothing. I push myself beyond my norm on good/great days to see how I fare.

Seeing others around me, actually asking to join me in my exercising is a huge motivation and lets me know by leading as an example I've managed to "Spread the Spark" and I encourage all the way.

I love to enter my exercise into my tracker and see how many calories I burned and see how many points I get...I am not that faithful to exercise so I need to get better with that!!

Right now my goal is to be able to get up off the floor. It's such a simple goal, but it is a HUGE factor. I remember once I fell a few years ago on an uneven sidewalk. I couldn't get up. I took off my backpack...nothing. I took off my coat...nothing. I was about to panic when a man came by (I now think it was an angel) and lifted me up. that's the only time I ever saw him in that particular place. I am being faithful to Curves to achieve that goal.

If the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence it's probably astro turf.

It depends on how I feel in the mornings. Motivation can be from nil to overdoing and then I go down for a couple of days. "All things in moderation."

What Motivates you to EXERCISE?

The scale and the fact that unless we win the Lottery I'm going to have a lot of extra skin WHEN I lose that 143 pounds I'm shooting for because surgery is out of the question.

This week I'll begin looking for articles that address the proper exercise to help reduce that flab, for lack of a better term. I read some where that eating lots of papaya helps the skin cells shrink. I guess I'm going to have to start holding my stomach in again tooemoticon

Exercise 1st... Spark 2nd. Works for me!

Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.

Instead of giving myself reasons why I can't I give myself reasons why I can.

several things seem to be my motivators - the first is how my hubby seems to lose twice as much as I do, the next motivator for me is my sparkstreaks (I set my swim routine for 3 times a week and if I don't do that, I seemingly don't lose wt that week) and 3, if I don't do my swimming laps, then I have to do something else and I hate other stuff, swimming is a love for me. hugs, cheryl

I hate strength training. Period. I do it because I want to get rid of the bat wings and build muscle.

The cardio is the easy part - I walk my dog because it just makes him so darned happy, and I work out on my ski machine and mini elliptical because I love books and I only let myself listen to certain audio books when I'm working out!

Exercise is now a big part of my life. I feel strange if I do not do something during the day. To me it is a very natural thing to do now. Now if you would have said 10 years ago I would say this - I would think you were crazy!

In the beginning I was motivated by the thought of losing weight.

Now it makes me feel so good and in control of my life. Find something you love to do - or several things you love and it will make it so easy to become a part of your day.

Until recently, I had a walking partner and I see how hard it is for me to get up and do it on my own. Even on the days when we didn't walk I was doing more exercise.

I often wish for a swimming pool too! I forgot to mention earlier that I named my elliptical Phillipe. It is so much easier to say I'm going to spend 30 minutes sweating with Phillipe than "doing my workout"!

Having a goal
I signed up to walk a half marathon in October. My exercise usually wanes in the summer months as I find more interesting things to do with my time. But this summer, because I am on a training schedule, I have been exercising 3-4 times a week. And I'm proud to say that I am now up to 10 miles. If I didn't have the weekly goals and the 13.1 mile end goal, I doubt I would have exercised much at all this summer.

Routine. Sounds silly enough and I never would have believed it before, but when I put myself on a schedule and stuck with the schedule for a good month or two, I find myself literally unable to skip a workout.

For instance, today is Monday and Labor Day. I have been able to squeeze in walking 2 miles during breaks at work, but am not working today. After the family and I went to the grocery store this morning, I came home, changed clothes and hopped on the treadmill before I knew what happened. Apparently I have hard wired my brain to expect and initiate exercise as per my normal routine.

Can I do it? YES I CAN! (Thank you Bob the Builder!)

I love listening to my ipod when I exercise. Also, I like improving a little each day. Although I find it hard to motivate myself to get started, I enjoy the way it makes me feel.

I don't like to exercise at all. All the normal things that should motivate me don't motivate me. I know that exercise makes me feel better, moves me closer to my goal, keeps me healthy for my husband and children, but all of those things won't get me off my rear and out the door. The two things that have kept me consistently exercising are (1) sticking with walking, which I really enjoy, and (2) using my pedometer. It helps me to have step goals, and I increase my goal by 500 steps each week. The challenge of trying to find ways to walk more is keeping me enthusiastic and motivated now.

I do things I like and avoid things I don't like. I love karate and I like some of the classes at my gym, swimming, the elliptical, walking the dog and gardening. I'm actually happy that the weather has cooled down because now I can take my dog for longer walks again. He doesn't tolerate the heat very well.

Exercise doesn't seem to help me lose weight. Eating less does that. Exercise simply makes me feel good. Once I get past the first couple of weeks of a new exercise program, I need to exercise. It's good for my heart. It's good for my body. It perks me up and makes me feel I've done something for ME!

Fear is a great motivator for me.

#1. Without exercise my back will stiffen right up

I exercise because it is good for me. Not particularly motivated to do it but don't want to be older and not be able to move. My source of motivation right now is my three golden retrievers who all demand time outside to walk, sniff and play. We try to go every morning as I love being out with them.

Exercise is not easy for me.....HOWEVER, I need to do it because the fear of immobility looms. I need to do it because I need to get healthier. So, I do what I can for now and try to increase my time and build my stamina. emoticon

In itself, I do not like to exercise. I am motivated to exercise though when I have a buddy to do it with. I walk as exercise and I am much more regular at walking when I can walk with someone else.

I am motivated to exercise/walk because I know that it will help me loose weight. I know that it will strengthen my heart and help my blood pressure to go down. I also exercise/walk so I can keep up my SparkStreaks!
