That's really good!! I'm looking at preschools next week and all of them require there 3 year olds to be potty trained to be in the preschool program if they aren't then they need to stay in the younger level. I'm really kind of surprised by that because most people i know don't have 3 year olds fully day potty trained yet.
All the schools i'm looking at are out of my price range but some offer scholarship programs and i figure it doesn't hurt to look and see them. I'm hoping i can get her in for a half day come fall. I was way too work busy last fall to be able to have her at home with me and she really should be around other kids more.... I think it's time I just hope i don't tweak out like i did last time i tried this.

She wore panties on Saturday and Sunday and it went well! She didn't have any pee accidents, and did go poop in her panties twice and once on the potty. The hard part was sending her to daycare today. I did talk to them though and everyone seems to be on the same page. They said they would take her to the potty every hour. I'm glad everyone seems to be on board.

That's what we did this whole time...... we found that at first anyways having her wear nothing made her not have accidents but when we put panties on her she would for get. after a while we were able to give her panties to wear and she would remember but if we put pants on her it was another story.... then we worked up to pants but then we found that ok she was getting to the potty in time but not able to pull them down/up her self so we went back to just panties. lol now she's ok in clothes but it was like she had to earn them back lol. We have mostly wood floors so cleaning up a mess wasn't really an issue.

there were a few key moments in her training when she was really motivated.

the first one is when she first pooped on the floor. she was totally grossed out and it never happened again.

we watched the elmo potty training video and that got her interested in it.

seeing her friends use their potties made her want to be a cool kid :)

Daniel tiger neighborhood has a potty training episode that we still watch all the time she loves it

the last one was hearing that her best friend was getting to go to preschool in the fall but she wouldn't be able to unless she started to poop in the potty. because at the end she had been urine trained for months but waited to poop until it was nap time and she had a diaper on.

we got to a point where we tried rewards and bribery and that worked the first 3 times maybe but then she didn't care at all so that never really worked for us. But I think the key thing and something that we didn't do as much as we should have is being consistent in bring your kid to the potty to sit every two hours. If i was to do it over again i would set a timer and really stick to it.

Great news! Your hard work has paid off.

I need to buckle down on this. We don't have any plans this weekend that I know of, so I'm thinking about going cold turkey and putting her in panties.

OK so after a month long potty training regression which turned out to be because she had a UTI we are finally officially back on track. this past week she's only have 3 accidents only one real one, the other two were her just being lazy.

the lazy thing is sooo getting to me. I don't know how to teach her not to be lazy at this age. i don't know how to explain to her that she can't pee on the floor just because she didn't want to use the potty which is what she tells me all the time.

it's not ok kid just stop doing it ahhhhhhhh

lol as much as it's been nice to use soo much less diapers this whole time (started training her at 18 months) if i were to do it over again i would wait until 2.5. i think that i might have been able to save myself a lot of frustration by just waiting longer. Even though Marley got the concept at a really young age i don't think she was ready. i'm guess that if you start younger it takes longer then if you wait and just do it when they are older. maybe not maybe i could have started today and still ended up taking months to train her i guess i'll never know.

Such frustrating times...the things w/the dark started right when Joe's schedule got all messed up too with the holiday traveling...

Hopefully its just a minor setback....and you can get her back on track...consistency is key!

so much for being potty trained!!

the last two weeks our scheduled has really been messed up and i think/ hope that's what the problem is but Marley has tottaly regressed back to diapers.

it started out with her hold her BM because she didn't want to use the potty then she would smear and that got super annoying but we were working through it until yesterday when she would just pee in her pants as well. we would ask her why she wasn't using the potty and she would just say, "i don't want to" and i tottaly believe her. she's just being lazy and i don't know how to snap her out of it. but i'm tired of cleaning so i just put her back in a diaper yesterday and she didn't even care or make any attempt to use the potty.

I'm sooo frustrated. I know your not supposed to go back and forth but i just can't spend all day cleaning just because she's being lazy it makes me mad and i don't want to let her know it.

When we first got serious about training the first step we took was to have her sit on the potty right after she work up. also before and after getting into the car or leaving the house. We just told her that's what people do and it was time to go. if we ask if she needs to go 98% of the time the answer will be no even if right after she runs in herself to use it. So we don't ask. we just say it's potty time!! and walk her there.

Wow Jamie, I am just catching up on some posts I missed..that is fantastic that you were able to do that and stick to it! Joe just started really trying, he looks at ya and gives the face or hides in the corner and we try our best to catch him and ask him if he needs to go pee-pee or caca...we've had him go 3 times so far now..where he actually tries and pushes..its SO cute and he is just so excited about seeing something come out..which is hilarious. He is definitely a visual kid...now that he's interested, its going to be a potty everything Xmas I think..lol...

Jules, I think the key is to have everything out for her to explore, with Joe he already had read the potty books and we had a potty as a step stool to wash his hands in the bathroom, watched lots of videos on it..so he wasn't scared of doing it..he sat on it tons of times and nothing happend of course..we read the potty book a thousand times..he comes in with both of us when we go to the bathroom and imitates us and now he's actually doing it. My pediatrician said the best times to try is when you are running a bath because the water relaxes them and makes them want to go. There's no routine to it just yet but when we seriously start there will just have to be...we'll get through it! oooxxoox

The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself. All the rest is a piece of cake ; )

constancy is key. Our lives have been one big potty them for 3 months now. potty books potty movies. stuffed animals going potty, taking turns going potty, doing potty hooray dances and parades to the toilet to flush it (because most of the time she uses the potty upstairs)

We pushed fluids so she would go more often and there would be more learning opportunities. and we were lucky that most of our floors are wood so cleaning up was easy.

There were so many times we wanted to give up but i'm sooo glad now that we didn't.
I'm hopping to put the money we're saving on not buying diapers into buying more fruits and veggies when grocery shopping. Which comes at a good time since winter drive the prices up a lot.

Awesome! That must feel so good to save money on diapers. It's your bonus money from a job well done! Lillian will be moving up to another room at her school, and they work on potty training so I guess I will start then. I really admire your motivation Jamie. I'm not very good in the patience department!

After i made that post i went and google it and found that they do make products for it but they all had such mixed reviews. I think I will end up making my own from a regular waterproof bed pad as i know they work very well.

Wow Jamie, that is great! I don't know of a water proof car seat cover, but they do have the waterproof multi-use pads. You might be able to cut slits in some of them or get crafty if you sew. If you could find a way to fit that into the carseat, it might protect against leakage.

Marley had her first nondiaper car drive today. it was just across town but she did it!! do they make water proof car seat covers or something like that?? It would be nice to move to the actual step of wearing panties out of the house too but changing her car seat to wash is the biggest pain in the butt ever.

so Marley have been doing really well with potty training the last two weeks or so. In the last 4 days she's only used her diaper when sleeping. I have her naked from the waist down all the time when at home so it's really easy for her to get to the potty in time and she even takes her self now. Tomorrow i plan on letting her were panties but no pants and seeing how that goes. In the past if I did that she would just pee in them as if it was a diaper so i'm hoping she doesn't go back to that. I think it's time that she started to learn how to pull them up and down though. It's getting too cold to run around naked all the time lol.

sounds like you are making huge progress.
the training pants i have are not pullups or diaper like at all. they are basically underwear with a tiny bit of absorbancy so they can hold a bit of pee-pee. i am not doing the pullup thing at all- except maybe at night time or naps.
that would drive me nuts about MIL not cooperating. hope she can get on board with your plan.

i don't understand the training pants thing.
I got some only because they were on sale cheaper then the regular ones at the time and we used them but i didn't notice any difference in the feeling "wetness" of them at all and neither did she. and they go on just like slip ons so i'm not sure what the point is.

twice last night before bed and all day today Except one time when i left her with my mom for two hours Marley used the potty/toilet. When she was at my mom's she pooped and i don't know weather it was because my mom didn't ask her to sit for long enough or because Marley just wanted to use her diaper instead. Either way that's a HUGE success in my book.

I hope to keep it going but tomorrow I have to leave her with my MIL and i worry that she wont try to stick to the ask her to sit every 2 hours or so rule that i'm going to giver her and mess it all up.

My MIL undermines some of we do and it's horrible. to the point where i had to give her a typed up list of rules for Marley and for Marley's caregivers to put on her fridge (no joke) We'll see.

anyone having any luck with potty traing yet??

We were off to a good start then she basically just refused to use it out of no where and it's been over a month since I've gotten her to used the potty. I did leave her with a friend while i shot a wedding the other night and was told she used it 3 times. My friend has a boy 9 month older then her so she wanted to be just like him i'm guessing. I wish i could hang out with them more often.

how is potty training going for everyone??

We introduced the potty early and it seemed to be catching on for a while, she was using it for peeing and pooping if i could tell she was about to or if she told me she had to go. But then one week she got really constipated and had a few hurtful BMs and it messed everything up. She then started to hold it which made the problem worse. We learned that Marley can't have any cheese or she will get bound up. Anyhow we decided to stop trying for a while. she still tells us when she has to go more often then not she tells us after just went. She will even say changing and walk her self to the changing table. I want to try again but i also want the next time to be the last time so i'm holding off for a bit just to make sure she's ready this time around.

all day today Marley has been running to her potty and sitting down saying "pee pee". She does this right after she goes in her diaper. It's a step in the right direction :) also she's trying to help pull up her pants now which is another step in the right direction. Still doesn't try to pull them down though. emoticon

today I saw Marley making the "poop face" and i asked her to hold it. I put her on her potty and read goodnight moon to her while asking her to sit down over and over again. I could tell that she really had to go but wasn't used to sitting down to do it so I let her stand up over it and she pooped into the potty standing. we made a big deal about it and showed her how we bring it down to the big potty and flush it and wash our hands. she was happy that we were happy but I don't think she got it :) but it's progress emoticon

yeah. i plan on doing a half naked week with Marley when we officially start. I'll keep her in the bathroom and kitchen area so clean up is easy. I'll of course bring in all her books and toys so we're not board but i think that she'll learn quickly. I've heard a lot of great stories about people trying that method.

my sister did something similar for her son and she said it made him more aware of what was going on and she of course could notice quicker too- no pants/diapers or anything.
sounds kinda scary to me though!

I think if you built it into the routine at home, you'd do good. I wasn't in daycare at the age when I potty-trained, but I'm told I got the hang of it pretty quickly (it did help that I had a slightly older cousin going through it, and I was trying to copy her...but I caught on before her, and she'd started first). My brother, OTOH, refused. He was not interested in stopping playing, and my mom had to hold him out of pre-K because he wasn't done potty-training yet.

I've heard that using cloth diapers, they train faster, because they don't like the wet/dirty feeling. Same way as with putting them in regular undies. Disposable diapers are designed to keep them drier, so they don't register it as early. One of my friends would just put her kids in oversized t-shirts at home, no undies or pants...they would stop and go on their own when they needed to. Pants/undies seemed to invite accidents, so they'd only get those when they were leaving the house (until fully potty-trained anyway)

i have heard from friends with kids in daycare that they are great about it. its worked into the routine where they all go potty every 2 hrs or something. its much harder at home for them because they have to stop playing and go potty. good luck! we are going to have two in diapers and doing cloth, will make it cheaper but will involves lots of washing and stuff.

Eric is 16 months now, and I'm starting to look into potty-training for the near future. We start trying for a new baby in about 2 months, and I would prefer to not end up with 2 in diapers, LOL. I know that the daycare will help, so long as we keep it up at home, so I'm probably going to try to talk to his teachers about it soon, since they've done this before, repeatedly.

great question. douglas is 14 m and new baby will be coming when he is 17 m so i am not even thinking i will do anything until after that. we will be moving to a new state/house and all at about 19 m so i think all of that will be enough change for his little mind. i also hear that boys take to potty training more slowly than girls do so will aim for closer to 22-24 m to start and just try to do it quickly.
he loves toilet and toilet paper. loves to open and close lid, put his hands and other objects in if no one is looking and of course make a mess with paper too. the door stays closed all the time though so it doesn't happen very often.
my sister actually carried an extra potty seat around in her trunk for her son to use when they were out instead of using public restrooms. pretty funny.
i like the idea of a ring to go on toilet too and that you are reading books and talking about it.
i have a niece that is almost 2- 23 m i think and they started around 18 m because she was really curious but didn't push it. she has gone on the potty- both pee and poop but it has gone in waves, currently she doesn't want to use it.
its a very interesting topic and one that seems to be so different for each kid. i need to do some reading on it but haven't yet.

So I was wondering when you all plan on starting potty training your little ones.

I have read three books on the topic now and I've decided to start the process now.
the pre-training phase will last from now until she's about 18months then we'll really try.
Right now I'm just letting her watch me in the bathroom and explain the process to her. She's very interested esp in the toilet paper part. she likes to put it in the toilet and watch it go down when i flush it. she loves to wash her hands after but i haven't figured out a way to have her do this and not get her shirt soaked because she can't reach the sink yet so i have to hold her and it's just messy lol.

We're also reading books about the potty and that's going over well. I have really be pushing her to help as much as she can with getting dressed. she can almost put her shirt on by herself now and will step into her pants while leaning on me. next step getting her to pull them up..... I think that's going to take a while though.

Also every time i notice her going tot he bath room especially if she's going poop then i tell her what's happening and we immediately go and get nice and dry.

I'm getting her a potty tomorrow one that i think will work really well for her. I'm going to keep it in the hall way out side her bedroom because we don't have a bathroom on the second floor. For the toilet in the actual bathroom I'm going to get a ring with handles that makes the hole smaller for littler bums and a step stool so that she can get use to that becaue when we are out and about we wont have a potty chair with us. They do make foldable rings that are meant to travel with though and I'll have to get on of those too.

From now until 18months I'll just have her use it as a regular chair and have her practice sitting on it and what not. That way when her body is ready to start the process she wont be as clumsy with the chair.

I know that typically the earlier you start potty training the longer it takes but if there's any chance of ending the diaper phase early i have to take it. I just think of all the money I'll save.
