Well, over the last 3 weeks, I have completed my 1st weeks goals.
Gee! Maybe I should be stressing over taking 3 weeks to complete my Week #1 goals!

I am making progress on getting more sleep, consistently. Biggest problem to overcome is myself! I do not give tomorrow the respect it deserves. I just stay up, playing on the computer usually, and know that I will, even on a good sleeping night, be awake before 6am. So I have really been trying NOT to go on the computer at night. Try to track my meals right after dinner, then shut it off. Resist the urge to check out friends on FaceBook, look at E-Mail, play Sudoku ~just say NO, to myself. And to be firm about shutting the lights off at 11:00pm.
I'm also making strides in getting back to sleep, when I wake at 2am. No "thought trains", No turning on the laptop, or lights, I just try deep breathing, and not thinking consciously. Sounds strange, but sometimes I can.

So, Now I will try to continue getting a consistent 4 to 5 hours a night, and the occasional 6 - sometimes even 7 hours sleep.
Breathing deep, and even several times a day.
Recognizing and Appreciating the People in my life, who matter.
Stretching mindfully every morning.
Will be working on staying in calorie range, and getting some movement in each day.

Wishing you all Strength & Peace!

This week and the comments from my family tells me I have a stress problem . I think the best thing to do is deal with one thing at a time and hopefully at the end of the challenge I will have given myself tools to deal with life better.
I am starting with a journal , a calming phrase and deep breaths. Here goes...........

I challenge myself to do something creative once a week. I have found when I am not able to have a creative outlet it really affects me. I will sit down at my piano and/or my sewing machine. I will organize a closet/junk drawer/dresser (yes, this allows me to be creative). I will write poetry again, create songs, grab my camera and shoot more pics, etc. Ahh, I feel happier already! :-)

challenge goals-
Write in my private journal each day and consider what is causing stress, whether it is within my circle of influence, if I can change my perspective and find an opportunity, and what actions I can take.

Workout daily for 30-45 minutes.

Where to start - I care for my disabled husband who is 49 years old with MS. I work full time as a university professor and love my job but it has it's stresses. We don't have any family nearby to help and sometimes I feel overwhelmed with taking care of my home, husband, and job. I know I need to make time for myself but usually don't. This fall I joined a church group that meet once or twice a month and I am enjoying my time with the members. I am really going to try focusing on the stress busting techniques in the challenge and work on taking care of myself.

You got it. Now to join a group or two of like minded folks and put yourself out there. I found the support and studies that enhanced my ability to renew my point of view and focus, and you can, too. I hear ya -- don't put yourself where folks aren't committed like you for a better life.

I need a reliable income.

I need regular affection and intimacy, regular meaningful conversation about things besides problems.

I need to change the way I view my circumstances.

I can't create the reliable income and I'm the one who wants more intimacy and affection. The only thing I can control is how I look at my situation.

My life and job are stressful. Im here to learn tips I can apply to help in both areas.

My job: I am exposed to trauma of my clients and that is something that wears on me. I have to learn how to not take on their stress and make it mine. Dealing with deadlines and staff and coworkers ect is stressful. I work two jobs, so double the stress.

My life: House needs to be more organized and cleaned, Im learning to be a Flylady. Getting married in 2015. Im a mom of a teen. I have family issues that I am learning to live within boundaries. Also how to deal with what is mine to deal with, in these issues.

Im learning in general that eating does not resolve ANY of the issues above listed. It is a long hard journey, but as I get healthy, it is worth it.

I joined this group to try and do a better job at managing my stress levels. I need to get to the point where work stays at work. I need to learn how to say "no" when people ask me to help out / do such and such, etc. The list goes on and on.

Tuesday DEC 30th: 150.0

I am stressing enough to come by here. Wish I could afford the time to type it all out but that would procrastinate the very things I must decide on and then deal with.

I can't live life in a bubble because it's depressing locked inside them! But I also know that stress increases are warning signs to interpret correctly if I'm to remain inside GOOD choices.

After another cupa' java, a shower. After that, key bills out AND a bank trip. After that, investigate flights to Montreal for a tentative trip in 2 weeks! Then meeting up with Scott and his DD's dog-- to discuss dinner with friends tonight-- and the NYD getaway to 4 days of sitting still at a beach house. Sitting still NOW with no options?
That CLUTTER (others know!) must go, is HERE to chip away, and rest and walk and stay centered...at home... or maybe not?

emoticon I want nothing tomorrow night for NYE, and that's the gist of it all... JANUARY, here we come!

Vickie,

WAY TO GO, mapping your route and then walking it! That's FANTASTIC!!! I have a problem getting to bed myself. I use to get there at about 2 AM, but I am doing better, as I get there around 11:30 PM. I'm trying and it seems to be working some with me. I haven't done the sleep challenge, so I may just check into that, in the new year!

Keep up the good work, young lady!!!

Blessings!

The sidewalks were all cleared and it was not icy. It was a good first step to start a walking routine. I did fine. I enjoyed it and got some fresh air too.

Blew get to sleep earlier challenge, which would reduce stress a lot , last night. did enjoy aerobics for 15 minutes today. Time for bed, is way past what I thought to do tonight.
someone mentioned routines, yes, schedules. It is very difficult to have one when you do not have one. Period. I used to. Then things changed and it goofs up what needs doing in a timely fashion when you don't.

NO TV is helping in small ways. I limit online stuff a bit more too. Sort of, lol.
Ok, 2am. Time to hide under my blankie .

RK,

You never have to start from scratch! You just went on a bit of a detour, which took you off the main road. You were still doing things, and you were still moving! But you know what? The best thing about a detour, is that it ALWAYS brings you back to the main road, where you continue with your journey!

Blessings!

RK,

You've got this! There's a challenge that you can join, and it's just asking for 10 minutes of exercise a day. Start with that baby step. If you're beyond that, just add another couple of minutes a day.

Blessings!

I know that when I am stressed or upset I tend to turn to food and eat more. I want to find other ways to reduce and combat stress that do not involve food and are better for me physically and mentally.

My goals for week 1 are to journal at least 4 times a week, even if it is just a few thoughts. To think before I turn to food, am I really hungry or am I eating because of something else. To find some easy stress reduction techniques that I can use, especially at work.

My goal for this challenge is to consistently use stress-reducing techniques, instead of eating, when I feel stressed or worked up.

Action steps:
1. Create a list of stress-reducing techniques I can do with little/no equipment anywhere
2. Have a copy of that list upstairs and downstairs in my home, in my car, and in my classroom
3. Tally when I use the list (I'm a data-driven person)

My goals for this challenge are to journal every day, even if it's only a few lines and to stop and breath when I start getting worked up. I really have to learn to let things go rather than letting them build up inside me.

Continue with journal at least twice a week. Forgotten how helpful that can be.
Make my self stop and take a deep breath when I start getting wound up over to much to0 do verse too little time.
Make a list of things to be done and pick one to complete. When that is finished pick another until list is complete.
Get more exercise.
Drink more water

3. Plan meals a week in advance, and incorporate more fruits and vegetables.

4. Keep track of appointments to avoid rushing or forgetting.

5. 8 HOURS OF SLEEP!!!

I am hoping to become more aware of my stress triggers and have better ability to handle them. This past week I have discovered stressors that I hadn't really thought were.

My goals this week to bust stress ~

1) Be more active - Joining the 5K Your Way Challenge

2) Find & utilize alternative responses to emotional reactions.

3) Rid my home of more clutter - which is one source of emotional reaction.

My goals to help me de-stress will be:

1) Take a few minutes to myself in the morning instead of automatically jumping into cleaning mode. emoticon

2) Listen to an audiobook while in the car to make the drive more pleasant. emoticon

3) Make the time to meet with friends and enjoy my time with them instead of always worrying about having to get home to get things done. emoticon

Become aware of how my triggers effect me, what specific reactions i have. Utilize more effective coping mechanisms, beyond just observing what's going on, knowing i have a choice, then choosing old/comfortable just because it's easy, and replace with new/healthier actions, as opposed to reactions. Repeat: not my circus, not my monkeys. repeat: stay in my own yard. Repeat: none of my business.

The only goal I had in mind today, was to make it back safely after spending 8 hours at the VA hospital, which is an hour and a half drive from where I live. Mind you I didn't do the driving, but I'm always so stressed when I go to the VA, so I made sure to get a workout this AM before my transportation arrived, and then again after they brought, and it felt AMAZING to feel all that poison leave my body with those workouts! I'll be doing one more, before I call it quits for the evening!

Blessings!

My goals this week:

1. Make a list of ALL of the little chores I need to do around my house and my office.

2. Scratch off 1 item off of each list every day.

3. Once list is done. Throw it away.

Bottom line is: I just want to feel happy. I think I'm happiest when I'm organized and, since it stresses me to be disorganized, my goal for this week is to roll with the punches. When things get off plan, I will take a moment to breathe and realize that there is a reason for this disruption and it make work out better than I had planned. Smile and don't freak out. Just be happy.

I would have less stress if I didn't feel like a burden to everyone around me. I have been disabled for a year and have been completely ignored by my family....unless they want something. I would have less stress if I would just "let it go" and worry about myself instead of worrying about everyone else's needs. They aren't worried about mine. I am a "fixer" in that I want everything to be OK for everyone. I need to worry about things being OK for me. I need to take care of me....but instead I just STRESS over everything....but I'm working on it!

I would have less stress if I were to ...
1. Eat and drink more healthfully - cut back on sugar, salt and stress eating
2. Exercise regularly
3. Have healthy financial discussions with my husband
4. Cultivate silence daily through prayer and meditation
5. Stop procrastinating on cleaning off my desk and filing papers; putting away laundry; weekly cleaning. Plan next week, this week
6. Organize one shelf or drawer a week
7. Do one family activity a week
8. Get a week's worth of outfits ready, and a week's worth of meals planned, on Sunday
9. Make more crockpot dinners
10. Watch less "screen time" and practice the art of being present with others and myself

Okay, I choose to start this challenge, as I have some surgeries coming up, and I want to be as stress free about them as I can. I'll attack one goal per day, as to not overwhelm myself with everything else that's going on in my daily life. My goal today, is to start de-cluttering my computer room. I feel like if I'm in a room with STUFF all over the place, that I'm not working up to capacity and letting things slip in my life. BY His Grace, it's done!

Blessings!

I have started to Journal everyday and I want to keep this up as it has been helping me release some of the stress I have been feeling, what with losing weight and trying to find a job. My goal though is to keep this up as I will start but I usually stop and I really don't want this to fall to the side.

The other goal is to write a blog post 1-2 times a week usually on the same days I weigh in just so that I can track my progress and comment on how I feel about that and any other stressors I have that may have affected the weight loss or gain.

Finally I want to start walking more, whether it is with my little buddy or if it is simply parking further away from the store if I have a busy day full of errands. A good example today was when going back to my sisters car she wanted to drive to the liquor store a on the far end of a rather large parking lot, I placed my bag in her car and then said I would meet her over there and started walking. It took the same amount of time to get over there and I felt a little better knowing that I chose to walk instead of drive.

Trying to run every other day. Started a new job a month ago, and the running/exercise has helped. Stress better controlled than it has been in years. Hoping eventually to get off my Celexa 10 mg, which has gone down since 2 years ago. I've been eating more at night though which I have to try not to do. I guess i should be glad it's mostly healthy (e.g., airpopped popcorn, a few pretzels, one or 2 cookies). Good luck to everyone combating stress. I definitely can relate!

This semester going to school full time. Have not done this since the 70s. Fitting in exercise has been a challenge. I walk and clean house. Still adjusting to the time constraints of school and study-homework eeeeek.

My main goal this week was to figure out stressors which is BF doesn't have a job and I only work around 25 hours a week (minimum wage) after my job of 15 years shut down in December.
Up until this week he was getting unemployment but no more so I don't know how I will pay rent next week (we pay weekly).
I am trying to deal with this without overeating. Reading book or walking instead of eating.
Wishing everybody luck with this stress challenge
