Make simple changes to my house to help it be less of a stress-er. Things like setting up a mail center.

My goal is implement the tip from one of the articles:
Minute 1: Grounded ~ deep breathing, reminding myself where I am... stay with it.
Minute 2: Reality ~ This one was really important for me. My parents are sick and siblings are just fighting and bickering about this. So a LOT of bad things are being said. So, I'll just share what the article had:
"Minute 2: Reality Check
Once you’re calm enough to start thinking productively, put all those thoughts that are clamoring for attention inside your head through a quick reality check. Here are several very common thought patterns that have no place in reality. Do any of these apply to you?
All or nothing thinking
Example: You go over your calorie limit or eat something on your “forbidden” list, and then decide to keep eating because you’ve already “blown it” for today. Reality: Weight loss is not a one-day event. If you stop overeating now, you’ll gain less and have less to re-lose later. That’s something to feel good about!

Reading your own thoughts into someone else’s words
Example: Someone made a mildly critical or unsupportive remark to you, and you feel completely devastated. Reality: The more bothered you are by such remarks, the more likely it is that you are being overly critical of yourself. When you treat yourself with respect, what others say won’t matter nearly so much.

Either-Or thinking
Example: You make a mistake or have a bad day and feel like a complete and hopeless failure. Reality: No one does well all the time. Mistakes are a necessary and valuable opportunity to learn—if you don’t waste them by getting down on yourself.

Taking care of other people’s business
Example: Something is going badly for someone you care about, and you feel responsible, or pressured to fix it. Reality: People need to learn from their own problems. You aren’t doing anyone a favor by trying to fix things just to make yourself feel better."

This was helpful..Thank you De-Stress in 3 Minutes or Less
Stop Emotional Eating Before It Starts
-- By Dean Anderson, Behavioral Psychology Expert

Minute 3: Perspective. This was really nice too. I mean the 2nd minute step is the equivalent to most people saying "Just don't worry about what others think" , but it does just resolve it and we all know this.... This perspective step does. Asking myself, "What really is the issue?", "DO I have all the facts?"

I really like DLBeckham's list. emoticon

For me: the main thing that helps me deal with some of the stresses in my life is taking action to resolve them. I agree that working out "works off" the build up of tension which is very important but I have some long standing stressors in my life that I really need to find a better solution (if possible) to them and then work towards that: for me, that means finding a way to bring more money into my "operating budget". I'm not saying that I will be able to accomplish this by the end of this challenge but I do hope that I can pursue some "ideas" during this time.

My stress busting goals are to first and foremost to slow down and enjoy the journey. If I am not enjoying my journey I will stop and take some time for me so I can refocus. I will go for a walk, exercise, take a bath, or just find a quiet place to take a few minutes and breathe. I will meditate daily, even if it is for 5 minutes.

I will say "no" to the things and people that don't bring me joy or satisfaction. I will recognize and honor my limits. I will not push myself to the point of exhaustion. I will take care of my body so it can take care of me. I will eat healthy foods, exercise (not over train), and get plenty of rest. I will socialize with positive, upbeat people. Most of all I will not take myself or others too seriously. I will have fun, laugh, and enjoy this life I have.

Integrity- The ability to be honest in the face of adversity.

Looking at my stress journal, most of it is coming from circumstances that will change within the next month. DH's fractured ankle is healing, the infection in the one pin site is receding and I'm getting better at changing his dressings daily. So at the moment, the biggest stressor is driving, especially the trip to the medical building at the hospital. So my goals are:

1) Not to avoid driving the way I have been doing. Maybe even get to my knitting group tomorrow in that we don't have an appt. with the surgeon until the following week.

2) Not to spend as much time as I have been on this computer and do a bit more cleaning.

3) Try to find more confidence in what I'm able to do and not feel guilty about what I can't.

I have several stressors in my life right now.

(1) My son is still in college and depends on me for financial support and is not at all cooperative when it comes to understanding my MS - he thinks that it is a fake disease that I can not be in a wheelchair one day and be up and walking the next so he makes things worse most times.

(2) I have been told by the heart and MS doctors that I cannot drive so I have to rely on someone else to drive me places so I feel like a prisoner in my own home - so BIG stressor - I want to drive again and regain my freedom - I was told I could not drive until I received a heart transplant and last week I was told that I no longer qualified for the transplant list.

So these are my main stressors - I have lost 131.6 pounds in an attempt to get placed on the heart transplant list. I have been doing a 100 minute a day for 100 day challenge for the past 50 days now of exercise averaging over 150 minutes of exercise a day. So that has been my plan to resolve the stress- like I said the heart transplant has been taken off as an option so I will continue to do my exercise and to lose more weight I want to lose around 20-30 more pounds. My blood pressure was 68/42 so maybe I can get it to go up as I lose more weight and my medication is adjusted and we will see where I go from here.

My number one stressor is figuring out how to relate to my husband as he struggles with Parkinson's and too many dangerous falls. At the same time he is angry and stubborn so trying to help him always leads to arguments and sharp words. I don't like myself in this mode. My goals: 1. accept his doing things his way as he fights his disease by letting him struggle and be slow, knowing that he will 'get there'. 2. accept that I can't 'help' him out of his dilemma and anger 3. speak kindly and gently, but hands off.

Reviewing my stress journal I noticed that work is one factor ( running helps), but the biggest stressor comes from my two young adult children who live at home. This shouldn't be my stressor but their lack of direction is...

Goals
Keep running or biking
Keep tracking
Journal
Leave work on time( lol won't happen but at least I might leave earlier)

I have reviewed my stress journals and decided upon these goals for this challenge:
1. Drink 8 cups of water daily BEFORE having diet soda.
2. Work on de-cluttering my house just 10 minutes at a time.
3. Take 5 minutes a day to practice breathing, staying grounded and meditating to quiet the inner voice chatter in my head.
4. Pray each night for guidance from God and willingness to change my behavior for the better, just one step at a time.
5. Enjoy playing with my children daily...taking time for tickles and giggles.
6. Keep active, wear my Spark People tracker, and keep moving daily to enjoy better health.
I have three more weeks to incorporate these in to my daily life, and I know that I will be better off from completing this challenge.
Ruth

Trying to keep a small list of items to cross off each day-- keeps me in check and focused.... I keep it next to my computer and then I don't stray off doing something else. It sorta keeps me on task, then I feel so accomplished and not stressed over getting nothing done at the end of the day! This seems to help me thus far. Yeah, a small accomplishment.

Doing fairly well on goals, but finding that just because I am in bed by midnight -- and it has happened now and then -- I'm not asleep. Furthermore, I'm still going to sleep at about 2 to 3 a.m., because that has been my sleeping habit.

Will keep working on it.

As I think about it, my goal to not procrastinate is not going all that well, either. (Even now I am on SP when I could be taking care of a lot of things I have put off, that are not really that hard.) I've got an idea: log off SP and tackle one of those projects.

I am always doing for everyone else before i do for me. This goal setting has taking some hard thinking, because it means that someone will not get the time i usually give them. I am buckling down and doing this for me. My goals for this challenge.
1. measure my food each meal
2. do at least a 5 minute meditate/stretch
3. stick to more than a gallon of lemon water a day
4. at least one 10 minute walk in my yard a day.

I am sticking to just these 4 goals right now so i dont get over whelmed and give up.

Hi! I am joining this challenge for a number of reasons, and am happy to be here.
I have Panic Disorder (which I am learning to control without Xanax or any other pharm) and have been in the Army for 18 years. I hike, read and do many other enjoyable things but one thing stresses me out and BAM I am out for a week. My nerves are fried, so I'm trying to get more real ideas to incorporate into my life...instead of just reading books that people write to make money - I'm looking for real life inspiration since I've read all of those books.
I have quite a bit of weight to lose, and this is my year to do it - I know it!
My goal is to be able to deal with immediate stress without having to deal with my overload for the entire next week.

I don't have a huge amount of stress in my life but I seem effected by stress more than I would like - I took the stress test and don't have a lot of stress factors (the biggest one being my caffeine love - I drink a cup of tea most mornings and 1-3 cans of diet soda during the day most days) and yet stress seems to be an issue for me most of the time.

One thing I know stresses me out is my lack of organization - I have a vicious cycle going on where I'll micromanage my time on paper (6:30 - get up and go to the bathroom 6:35 wash, brush my hair, get dressed, 6:50 have a light breakfast, 7:00 check emails and pinterest, 7:15 do morning yoga and a little cardio....) but then I don't stick to it for any one of a number of reasons, then the next thing I know it's 20 minutes before I have to be at work earning money and I'm still not ready to leave the house.

My goals are
- Keep a stress journal to identify stresses in my life
- Start keeping a to-do list with suggestions of when each thing can be done but no schedule unless necessary - the "way of life" app on my phone is helpful because it gives me a ticklist of daily things to do, and this makes them easier to track without obsessing over the timing.
- List three things I normally do in the morning which could be done as soon as I get home from work to make life easier - things like updating my paperwork and putting my name badge in my bag, not dropping it somewhere in the sofa.
- Limit my soda's to absolutely no more than 3 per day - next week the goal will be 2.

Wish me luck!

A lot of my stress seems to come from putting things off to the last minute. So my week 1 goals are going to pave my way to stop procrastinating. I plan to create a list of things to do for each day and complete those things by the end of the day, so I don't end up with a ton of things to do on one single day. I also plan to get at least 8 hours of sleep at night so I have more energy to commit to that list.

To Starbrite: Please don't be offended, but, I think you are doing something "RIGHT' because you appear to be loosing weight!!! So even though you might be stressed and procrastinating..... you appear to be sticking to somewhat of a schedule and dieting and exercising and loosing some weight!! So don't be so hard on yourself-- instead give yourself a pat-on-the-back! (but, maybe get your taxes done, LOL.)

Week 1 Goals:

1. Avoid procrastinating. (I do this even with very small things, like putting something back into the cupboard. Chopping up cauliflower for snacking now, instead of at midnight. Calling someone now, not maybe tonight or tomorrow or . . . )
emoticon

2. Create a realistic schedule for daily living: It should go:
* Pray (meditate) on waking
* Stretch, exercise, do knee rehab exercises (30 to 60 minutes)
* Work -- physical and mental until the woman who helps me comes.
* Work with person helping me.
* Dinner
* Stop and change what I am doing and do something else.
* Knit
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

3. Pray (meditate)

4. Go to bed by midnight
emoticon

This sounds so easy. It really does and I already realize I have no time for lunch. emoticon

Besides, my taxes are due on Tuesday or Wednesday, right? (Another result of procrastination.)

I am constantly wracked with stress in several areas of my life. So I hope bu being part of this team it teaches me ways to manage it better. Right now I'm going to try to focus on things the test said I could improve on like balanced meals, move more, sleep, organize time, and lose weight.

1. Get my house in order so I am not constantly aggravated by it.
2. Say no sometimes when asked to volunteer.
3 Meditate daily
4 Yoga daily
5 Walk/Hike daily

After the house ordering, the remainder will only take 2.3 hours of my day....I am worth it!

I LOVE all these goals and de-stressing ideas, I do find that dancing around the house is my best way to release 'stress'! If I had to make a list.....

1) Don't worry about the small stuff, it will go away on its own.

2) Continue to de-clutter my house! It looks so much nicer!

3) Continue to work the 'Sparks' program.... etc.

4) Make a list of things that 'do' continue to stress me, and find ways to either eliminate
them, or lessen their strain on my life!

5) Finally, pray about all of this each and every day!

I updated my goals/tracking items on my Start page. I'm now going to:
1) Assess my stress level each day
2) Help myself overcome stress by doing something nice for at least one person each day
3) Resume taking yoga classes & do nighttime yoga before bed to assist with sleep
4) Do two things nice for myself - eat right & exercies

Because I'm old enough to know there will always be stressful situations arising in life, my goal for Week 1 is to assess my stress level in order to be able to develop skills to reduce stress in my life.

Week 1 goals:

1. Deep breathing exercise for 5 minutes everyday.
2. Declutter one shelf of my pantry - washing, wrapping & packing things for donation pick-up.
3. Once home from work, I will not check work emails until the next morning.

My overall hopes for the challenge are to:

1. Gather new tools to help deal with the stress.
2. Be reminded of the tools already in my "shed" that I can use to defuse stressful situations.
3. By reducing stress using these, I will feel healthier.

I am facing a move in *checks* 111 days. I'm moving 1000 miles away from everyone I know. I am moving from Florida (where I have lived my ENTIRE life) to Indianapolis, where I am told, it gets cold. So I have two main stressors that I am to combat:

1) I want to move yesterday. I am super-excited and moving and I want to be in Indy already.
1a) Have patience and take it one day at a time.
1b) Knit something warm. Then do it again. Is 36 enough afghans?

2) Oh, god. What have I done. I think of the logistics of moving 1000 miles; I will be leaving my familial safety net behind; I've been living on my own for a decade, but now I'll be ON MY OWN; *mindless muttered cursing*
2a) Read, run, write, meditate. Do whatever. Just take a deep breath and calm down. It's gonna be okay.
2b) If you get nervous munchies, go for carrots over chocolate. Just you try to emotionally overeat using carrots.
2c) No really, it's gonna be okay.
2d) Make lists.
2e) Knit another afghan. It's gonna be really cold.

I don't expect to vanquish stress right now. Just keep it manageable.

Run if you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must, just never give up.

I simply have to go to bed earlier. I'm setting an alarm at 9:30....at which time I will drop everything and mosey into the bedroom. This will allow me time to read a bit. I know how to use my DVR, and I can easily record any "must watch" shows - Game of Thrones included!

My goals (which I never posted when I first started this challenge 2 months ago) were:
*Get more and better sleep each night. I knew I wouldn't accomplish this every night, but wanted to improve at least a little each day on what I was getting before.
*Enlist the aid of my children and husband to handle the daily stressors in our lives. We will always have them, but I do not have to solve all of them, the rest of my family is capable AND, perhaps more importantly, they need to learn the skills too.
*Eat properly and take vitamins.
*Take time to RELAX a little.

I am happy to say that I am doing okay in each of these areas. I struggle. Even got away from checking into spark people because I had started "failing" - but that only added to MORE stress, not less.....
Still have to continue to encourage my kids to DO for themselves what they can and to be aware of when Mom may need a helping hand. But this is the hardest goal to accomplish because it is not dependent only on me.

I am less stressed. More confident. Hope to see the results on the scale soon!

My ultimate goal is to get off of anti-anxiety medication, but here are my goals for this challenge:

1. To make time to take better care of myself. This includes eating better and starting to exercise.
2. To not be afraid to ask for help when I need it.
3. To start a journal, to help me work through my stress instead of trying to hide it.

By the end of this challenge I would like to have established some habits for time management including logging my time, study habits (nothing is a stressful as studying at the last minute!) and learn to take time for myself.

I let too many little things overwhelm me that I get nothing done Instead I plan to focus my energies on thing that really move my spirit and stop obsessing over other peoples actions that I have no control of.
I will find productive ways to control my stress besides eating and lazing around.

Hi Jeanette! Whats so wrong about being a softy?? I hope you manage to find the balance betwwen saying yes and no. Its a pretty common problem for many of us. Good luck! I am also learning that putting ourself first sometimes is really all we need to do. Tally Ho emoticon

It sounds simple, I have to learn how to say no and not feel guilty. I am stressed from always being over committed. So many good causes and so much need in the world. As I write this I am looking into the pleading eyes of a beagle puppy in an ad for the SPCA and my heart is breaking. And yes I have rescued animals! I guess I'm just an old softy.
