I joined this challenge because I was feeling anxious, overwhelmed, exhausted and was chasing my own tail trying to keep up - and feeling pretty miserable.

I've blogged every day this week - and discovered that I feel very tired - so sleep is being given more of a priority now.

After doing the stress test, I have taken the action to plan something fun into my week. This is something I want to keep on my agenda! As I complete one fun thing, I will diary in the next thing - aiming for once a week.

I also picked up the phone this week and actually spoke to my son. I'm not a very comfortable phone-user, but I am keen to keep this connection with him going. I am also considering extending this to phoning my brother and sister regularly - but I'll have to work up to this.

I'm wanting to SLOW down, appreciate the small things in life, and feel more relaxed and happy.

Bloating can occur in women, any time during their cycle, try to avoid salt and salty foods, drink plenty of water and take some fiber like psyllium husk, benefibre, metamucil etc

Thank-you! I started probiotics from GMC. They work awesome. I don't need to use the bathroom after a meal unless I forget to take them. However, they have not helped my bloating. Any ideas for that?

My stress levels have been very high lately. I don't like the me I become when I'm so stressed. I am quick to anger and yelling, which is never a good thing . Not when I'm raising 2 of my grandchildren. Joshua is 10 years old and Holly is 9 years old. So I need to get back to being less stressed out and more fun.

Change is hard.

When I feel my stress level rising....I try to remove myself from the situation....Also, I have been writing my feelings in a journal so I can handle the issues as they occur....I am truly a work in progress, but I am determined to get more PATIENCE to handle all that come my way!

While I know myself as a creation of God, I am also obligated to realize and remember everyone else and everything else are also God's creation.

After the first week of writing a stress blog entry every day, I have identified certain things that have helped me cope with stress better.

Therefore my goals are:
1) Get up earlier every day. (For me, that time would be about 7am, 7:30am.)
2) Be consistent in writing about my feelings/anxiety.
3) Change my thinking patterns. Be realistic about the time needed, and make sure to prioritize by importance. Not everything is important.
4) Make time for myself. Use methods like reading a good book, meditating, a hot bath, etc.

I know I won't do it all at once, but these are the things I'm going to keep in mind moving forward.

After the first week, I realize that my life isn't as stressed as I thought it was... which is a very good thing to learn!
By becoming more aware of the stress I do have, on a daily basis, I can learn to manage it even better.
So my goals to reach by the end of the Challenge are:
1. Be consistent in writing down specific occasions when I sensed my getting "stressed" during the day... By being more faithful to performing the Examen of St. Ignatius of Loyola daily, I can use the knowledge I gain to make changes that can transform my life and grant me more peace within.
2. Begin to discern the difference between "tension" and stress. Noticing what physical affects each has on my body can help me let go of the things I cannot control.
3. Develop an alternative "thought" list to use when the "battle of the mind" starts to cause stress, whether real or imagined.
4. Continue daily exercise... it helps relieve the physical affects of stress/tension.

Step into the unknown with confidence! Trust that in the darkness of that first step there will either be something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly!

My challenge goals are to continue exercising, going to yoga Saturday mornings, cooking healthy meals at home which enable me to bring my lunch and exercise during my lunch break, to clean my closets and junk room this year (that's a New Year's resolution for me, too), and to have my husband help me with chores when we get home in the evenings. The last one is the biggest challenge since I set up a system for the others (except cleaning the cluttered rooms from the resolution), but as my motto in life goes, "Working on it!" All of these are areas which cause me stress if not kept up with, so I need to get them in check so I can be a healthy me!

My Week 1, I am setting a goal of beginning to declutter my home. I have realized the MESS causes me STRESS. I just have to overcome my anxiety about THROWING THINGS AWAY. I am not throwing away memories, I am making room for new ones!
emoticon emoticon

I am planning to use my new SPAT daily to increase my steps walked and miles. Walking relaxes me, so I aim to walk more, to feel less stressed!
emoticon emoticon emoticon

I am also starting an online journal (in my SP blogs) to document my progress toward busting stress!

I am going to start using a notebook/journal to help me study the Bible and pray more.

For this challenge I will be journaling and practicing meditation at least three times a week as a way to release my stress, which I normally keep pent up.

-the heart with joy, compassion, and love
-the mind with knowledge
-the spirit with equanimity and self-awareness"

Well, over the last 3 weeks, I have completed my 1st weeks goals.
Gee! Maybe I should be stressing over taking 3 weeks to complete my Week #1 goals!

I am making progress on getting more sleep, consistently. Biggest problem to overcome is myself! I do not give tomorrow the respect it deserves. I just stay up, playing on the computer usually, and know that I will, even on a good sleeping night, be awake before 6am. So I have really been trying NOT to go on the computer at night. Try to track my meals right after dinner, then shut it off. Resist the urge to check out friends on FaceBook, look at E-Mail, play Sudoku ~just say NO, to myself. And to be firm about shutting the lights off at 11:00pm.
I'm also making strides in getting back to sleep, when I wake at 2am. No "thought trains", No turning on the laptop, or lights, I just try deep breathing, and not thinking consciously. Sounds strange, but sometimes I can.

So, Now I will try to continue getting a consistent 4 to 5 hours a night, and the occasional 6 - sometimes even 7 hours sleep.
Breathing deep, and even several times a day.
Recognizing and Appreciating the People in my life, who matter.
Stretching mindfully every morning.
Will be working on staying in calorie range, and getting some movement in each day.

Wishing you all Strength & Peace!

This week and the comments from my family tells me I have a stress problem . I think the best thing to do is deal with one thing at a time and hopefully at the end of the challenge I will have given myself tools to deal with life better.
I am starting with a journal , a calming phrase and deep breaths. Here goes...........

I challenge myself to do something creative once a week. I have found when I am not able to have a creative outlet it really affects me. I will sit down at my piano and/or my sewing machine. I will organize a closet/junk drawer/dresser (yes, this allows me to be creative). I will write poetry again, create songs, grab my camera and shoot more pics, etc. Ahh, I feel happier already! :-)

I challege myself to admit that I have a problem handling stress....................
I do admit that I have a problem handling stressful situations and that I need to change the way I respond to stress .
As a first step I joined this group and now I am going to journal three times a week .

Challenge Goals:

Write in my journal daily in order to recognize what may lead to stressful eating. Finding out what triggers stress can help to eliminate stressful or binge eating.

Drink 64 ounces of water daily.
Walking on the treadmill at least 4 days a week.
Eliminate excuses.

One day, one meal, one choice, one step to a new me! Go D-Dub!

challenge goals-
Write in my private journal each day and consider what is causing stress, whether it is within my circle of influence, if I can change my perspective and find an opportunity, and what actions I can take.

Workout daily for 30-45 minutes.

being a force of nature ..." --George B. Shaw

Where to start - I care for my disabled husband who is 49 years old with MS. I work full time as a university professor and love my job but it has it's stresses. We don't have any family nearby to help and sometimes I feel overwhelmed with taking care of my home, husband, and job. I know I need to make time for myself but usually don't. This fall I joined a church group that meet once or twice a month and I am enjoying my time with the members. I am really going to try focusing on the stress busting techniques in the challenge and work on taking care of myself.

Hi !!! my main challenge will be to learn how to be more positive and control my anxiety. Since I started SP I have been better but with Christmas my stress is getting back big time. Looking forward to 2015 and new stress-help techniques.

You got it. Now to join a group or two of like minded folks and put yourself out there. I found the support and studies that enhanced my ability to renew my point of view and focus, and you can, too. I hear ya -- don't put yourself where folks aren't committed like you for a better life.

AND SO IT IS! emoticon happy new year emoticon

I need a reliable income.

I need regular affection and intimacy, regular meaningful conversation about things besides problems.

I need to change the way I view my circumstances.

I can't create the reliable income and I'm the one who wants more intimacy and affection. The only thing I can control is how I look at my situation.

I'm a Health Star. Shine with me.

My life and job are stressful. Im here to learn tips I can apply to help in both areas.

My job: I am exposed to trauma of my clients and that is something that wears on me. I have to learn how to not take on their stress and make it mine. Dealing with deadlines and staff and coworkers ect is stressful. I work two jobs, so double the stress.

My life: House needs to be more organized and cleaned, Im learning to be a Flylady. Getting married in 2015. Im a mom of a teen. I have family issues that I am learning to live within boundaries. Also how to deal with what is mine to deal with, in these issues.

Im learning in general that eating does not resolve ANY of the issues above listed. It is a long hard journey, but as I get healthy, it is worth it.

I joined this group to try and do a better job at managing my stress levels. I need to get to the point where work stays at work. I need to learn how to say "no" when people ask me to help out / do such and such, etc. The list goes on and on.

Tuesday DEC 30th: 150.0

I am stressing enough to come by here. Wish I could afford the time to type it all out but that would procrastinate the very things I must decide on and then deal with.

I can't live life in a bubble because it's depressing locked inside them! But I also know that stress increases are warning signs to interpret correctly if I'm to remain inside GOOD choices.

After another cupa' java, a shower. After that, key bills out AND a bank trip. After that, investigate flights to Montreal for a tentative trip in 2 weeks! Then meeting up with Scott and his DD's dog-- to discuss dinner with friends tonight-- and the NYD getaway to 4 days of sitting still at a beach house. Sitting still NOW with no options?
That CLUTTER (others know!) must go, is HERE to chip away, and rest and walk and stay centered...at home... or maybe not?

emoticon I want nothing tomorrow night for NYE, and that's the gist of it all... JANUARY, here we come!

My first goal to get rid of some clutter. I moved into a smaller house and it is so hard to keep it clutter free. The mess causes me stress. I also need to get the other people in my house to help.

Vickie,

WAY TO GO, mapping your route and then walking it! That's FANTASTIC!!! I have a problem getting to bed myself. I use to get there at about 2 AM, but I am doing better, as I get there around 11:30 PM. I'm trying and it seems to be working some with me. I haven't done the sleep challenge, so I may just check into that, in the new year!

Keep up the good work, young lady!!!

Blessings!

emoticon I planned and mapped a 30 min walk last night , then walked it today. Luckily someone does snow shovel the foot bridge at the park! Nice walk. The sidewalks were all cleared and it was not icy. It was a good first step to start a walking routine. I did fine. I enjoyed it and got some fresh air too.

Blew get to sleep earlier challenge, which would reduce stress a lot , last night. did enjoy aerobics for 15 minutes today. Time for bed, is way past what I thought to do tonight.
someone mentioned routines, yes, schedules. It is very difficult to have one when you do not have one. Period. I used to. Then things changed and it goofs up what needs doing in a timely fashion when you don't.

NO TV is helping in small ways. I limit online stuff a bit more too. Sort of, lol.
Ok, 2am. Time to hide under my blankie .

RKO,

emoticon Empty calories are a HUGE thing to give up, as I even eat empty calories, on occasion, as I tell myself it will make me feel better, but it never does. I do the same thing, and the story line never changes!

Kelley,

You've got the right idea! You're using your baby steps to find out how to tweak your eating habits to get what you need, and your baby steps in your walking, as every little bit helps! Keep up the good work!
