This was the first challenge I joined when I found Spark, and I am so glad that I did. I would have to post a book to share all the details of the transformation that has taken place over the passing weeks. We have always eaten together as a family, so we made it more fun by planning our menus together as a family and thinking up clever ways to modify favorite recipes to healthier versions.
The Family Makeover Challenge gave me the inspiration to attack our unhealthy habits in a positive way, as a challenge and an adventure. And my boys fed off that "fun" attitude, rather than feeling nagged and criticized. We have gone from eating fast food probably 4 nights a week on average, to once every two weeks (if that) and choosing the healthiest options available when we do. At home, it's all about fruits, veggies, lean meats, greek yogurt (what a wonderful thing!) and water, water, water. We used to be soda addicts, all of us.
I have dropped 22 pounds in five weeks. My youngest son, who has always adamantly refused to reveal his actual weight to me, shared his starting weight and his current weight with me finally yesterday - and he's dropped 17 pounds since we started. My older son still isn't sharing, but I know he will when he reaches whatever milestone it is that he's looking for in his head. I just keep talking in "step by step".
I fixed a meal for my extended family last weekend (22 people) and everyone was amazed when I shared the "modifications" I had made to give them a super healthy, super yummy dinner. I told them ALL they should visit Sparkpeople.com because - it has changed our lives.
