Well, some good news. My step-daughter came back to us after 2 weeks of being with her mother. We sat down and had a family meeting about some changes happening around here. Not only was she on board with being more involved with cooking dinners, but she also was excited to start exercising. Her enthusiasm seemed to wear off on my hubby too, because he even suggested we all for for a walk tomorrow! I'm amazed what the pure exhileration of a 6 year old can have on adults.

I have definitely enjoyed this challenge, but it's not over yet. Getting active is still going to be a huge problem, especially since my step-daughter doesn't live with us full time, and my husband is, shall we say, less than enthused about getting up and doing exercise? I've tried asking nicely, I've tried outright prodding, I've tried the guilt trip about whether or not he'll be around to be with the kids and I in the future if he keeps at it. But he's so laid back that he doesn't really seem to care about any of that.
I'm trying to find ways to motivate him, but lighting a fire under his ass is nearly impossible if he's not passionate about it. He says he would ride his bike, but he has no bike, and won't even look at the possibility of going out to buy one. *sigh* I'll figure it out someday, but for now, I'm getting frustrated. At least the one thing I can guarantee is that he'll eat the healthy food I put on his plate, so that's some consolation.
