My long term goals include more meals at the table, getting my younger son to try more variety of food and have him help with some basic food preparation. He has already become more active and swims daily in the summer and is playing the Wii fit more.

my long terms goals as a family are to prep more freezer/slow cooker meals so we can always be sure of having something healthy onhand. We get it done but I know when school is back, this will be more of a struggle.

This challenge has been much more difficult than the others because I am incorporating 4 people into it.

But I'm proud to say:

hubby joined Spark and is kicking butt
10 yr old son is rocking the wii fit, walks with me for 30 minutes most mornings, started a paper route, and swims probably 3 times a week
7 year old daughter also does the wii fit, swims 3 times a week and comes on the paper route too

I have implemented a routine where I decide what to cook the night before and I make sure all ingredients are laid out at 10 am...this prevents lazy frozen foods. My new goal is to get my 3 year old involved in cook and clean 1 day a week and to set more specific days for us to eat as a family at the table, this would keep my husband from saying "we just did that two days ago" I'm excited emoticon

Our family goal is to get my family making overall smarter/healthier food and snack choices. Increase the amount of veggies and fruits, decrease lower quality carbs.

My long term goals for my family right now are for my kids to understand the difference between healthy foods and unhealthy foods. I want them to know that food is just fuel for the body.

Another goal is for my kids to do a 5k with me when they are old enough. They can already jog 1 mile, and walk the second mile (the 2nd mile involves a lot of complaining!)

I want my kids to drink enough water year round. In the winter, we dont buy as much water.

We are making good progress, my kids are young enough, and I have always fed them healthy (partly because I dont want them to deal with weight issues like i have). We are going outside everyday and either running or swimming. They love healthy foods, and I need to work on letting them cook with me more often.

Thinking happy thoughts

Our family's long-term goals are:
1. Eat together 5 days a week.
2. Plan our meals ahead.
3. Do something active every day.
4. Eat out only twice per week, maximum.

We fall into the 'convenience' trap... I'm a SAHM of teenagers and a full-time student, so although I have more time to cook, if I don't plan ahead we often run out for take-out. This habit is contributing to our expanding waistlines and shrinking wallets! So, these goals will help us financially and also give us time to enjoy each other before they're grown in a couple of years!

Our family's long term goals are:
1. Do more activities as a family, not just eat out.
2. Keep up the running with the kids.
3. Keep meal planning
4. Cook as healthy as possible.
5. Incorporate kids in gardening and cooking.

I've really enjoyed this challenge, because my family was one of my biggest motivators.

Day 1 week 4. I do cook almost everyday but I will try to stick with the plan ahead meals. I need to start eating at the table. I am a t.v. watcher when I eat. I haven't broke that habit. Growing up we really only at at the table at holidays. We will keep busy in yard. When the weather gets too bad I have to come up with something else.

emoticon This has been a wonderful challenge for me to do and complete. I've been "on my own" on my journey, but it is a whole lost easier to include the whole family. We can all benefit. My long-term goals are to keep up the great work that has been started and to include everyone of us, together, as we travel along on our path to getting healthier. I will always be a WIP (work in progress).

This challenge has been good for me. It has helped motivate me to make changes that I was telling myself was too hard. I am planning my meals much better and that way I am working vegetables into our dinner easier. I started having dinner at 5 p.m. with my children and husband if he is home. My oldest asked me why I was being so strict and I told him that I just wanted us all to have some family time together. It is not that we are a busy family, no , we pretty much stay at home but they have different hunger schedules due to school and the two younger eat when they are hungry but I am making a committment to start eating dinner together every night.
Also planning means that I have more free time and less last minute stress. I try to get the kids outside after dinner to walk around and play.
I hope that I am prepared for when life gets mundane and I let everything slide away. I think we are doing good but keeping up the momentum is the hard part.

My long term goals is to serve healthy meals, eat together as a family at least once a day, and exercise daily. To do our best and try to eat less snacks and more filling food.

We've done well, and this challenge has gotten my whole family on board with the changes that we are making. My boys are even enthusiastic about it. We're eating together more often, which they love, and we're working together on planning meals, shopping for groceries, and making meals. Now for our long term goals...
1. We will eat together at the table no less than 3 times a week However, we will shoot for more often, and we will interact during these meals, meaning that we won't be watching TV or reading a book while eating.
2. We will get active together at least 3 times a week and we will have a Family Fun Night where we do one Fun activity together. This will vary anywhere from boardgames to geocaching to playing and running together.
3. We will work on building a schedule for our times so we can make it a point to have our time together; especially as my boys are getting older and moving towards more individual time, we still want to preserve Family Time.

Great goals! I've actually been working at this effort for about 12 weeks (!). The good thing is though that we as a family have recognized the need for an increase in veggies, fruit and grains. We are incorporating these into our meals more often. This being said, the challenge is culminating in success and that is what it is all about! Good luck on your goals!

My family and I started a healthy chart the other day and we will continue to do this for our long term goals. If we watch less than two hours of T.V. a day , exercise for at least an hour a day, make healthy eating choices, and drink our water for the day then we each get a sticker to place on our chart. After the family has earned 90 stickers then we pick a special reward, such as a pedi/mani, or a day trip to the beach. These daily goals will allow us to be a healthy family!

Its kind of funny when I started this whole healthy eating thing with spark people my hubby was very supportive but joked (not so jokingly) that he didn't want to get dragged into it with me. I told him I wouldn't drag him into it and I didn't he dragged himself. It started with me cooking more so I could control what I was eating but he really enjoyd the meals. Healthy doesn't have to equal gross! Then he'd ask well how many calories am I eating and I'd say well its 300 calories per serving and he say Oh great I'm eating healthy too. Then I would tell him that he just ate 5 servings. He was shocked needless to say, So instead of eating all of the meal I suggested he could save some for lunch which he now does. Now he's searching labels for whole grain and calories without me having to ask. He fills up our grocery cart with fat free and light stuff that he would never eat before. Long term I want to ensure we keep eating healthy beyond this challenge that we start our 1 year old out with fitness and healthy eating now so it will be normal to him and not something to work at. That we find fun fitness things that we can all enjoy throughout the year and not just when its nice.

We have been doing great at eating together as a family almost every night. Given that two are teens, we are pretty proud of that! We are also great at eating veggies and healthy foods, so we didn't have many recipes to make over. What is harder is finding time to exercise as a family, especially all five of us together. We do all go to the park together sometimes. I invited everyone to go walk/jogging with me tonight and had two takers, but I have been less successful in getting everyone to more than one family activity per week. One thing we do is everyone wears their pedometers and we track our steps as a family each day. It is not really together, but it is in another way.

We talked about our long-term goals tonight at dinner. They are really goals for the next 6 months or so, which is about as far as the kids can plan ahead! We said:
-get 2 million steps as a family for our next step challenge and earn a trip to the local amusement park.
-do at least one walk or bike ride together as a family each weekend.
-do the La Luz trail to the top of the mountains this summer as a family.

This has been a great challenge as a family!

Here we go. The last thing I need to do in this challenge is to write out our families long term goals.

- First we are going to continue to add fresh health foods to our diet and reduce the junk we use to buy at the store. If its not here we can"t eat it. :)

- Secondly I want us to be an active family. We have created a family culture of being couch potatoes and I want to reverse that. I want boredom to "spark" us to go DO something, not veg out or munch on snacks.

- I want to see my kids really catch this and truly want it in their lives and that it becomes something that they take with them when they leave the nest.

Its about progress not perfection!

I have a large family with different goals. Some of us need to lose weight. Most of us need to do portion control. I have 2 children in their 20s with cholestoral (I know I didn't spell that right) issues. We have set our family goals to deal with all these issues.

Our long term goals are:

~ To keep the entire family engaged in the challenge activities. That's a REAL challenge since 2 of our 3 children are away at college, but I know it can be done!

~ Continue preparing healthy meals and encourage the 2 at school to do the same; or at least make healthy choices.

~ The most difficult task of this challenge is to eat together as a family. Besides the aforementioned geographically issue, the rest of us are super-busy, always going in several different directions. Scheduling at least 3 per week is our family's goal.

~Being active together has been part of raising our children, so this task is easy to achieve. However, I'd like to plan family activities when ALL of us are together.

To All My SparkTeam Members: Best of luck with your goals!

My long term goals are:

1. To keep putting healthy meals on the table. When it's in front of them, they eat it, but if I don't do the cooking, or at least have the food pulled out when hubby gets home, they go for the processed junk.

2. To get active together as a family 3 times per week. This is probably going to be the biggest challenge, but I'm going to keep at it.

3. To teach Morgan and Andrew about real food - where it comes from, how to cook it, and why it's good for you.

Family is all involved now. Long term goal is to keep going. We eat as a family, work out 2 -3 time a week together. Kids are making right choices for what they eat. Theis as a great challenge.

We are getting better at eating together, and I am getting better at meal planning. Things we still need to work on is making the time 3 times a week to exercise as a family, and to incorporate more exercise in our evenings together. Today we spent part of the afternoon playing in the snow, and this was a good start. Also, I need to include more vegetables in our meals, and find ways to have my son eat them. I am aiming for 5-6 fruits and vegetables per day. emoticon

So, after a month of this challenge, the areas that are going well for my family and that I intend to continue working on are:

eating 5-9 fruits and veggies a day
making over our family favorite recipes
cooking together
doing activities as a family
