We’re on the final day of week one. We’re doing well with our healthy changes.
During the weekend we did eat out but we chose Subway instead of our usual KFC or A&W
Tuesday I made homemade chicken noodle soup in the slow cooker and had enough left over for two more meals later this month.
Last night my daughter helped me make ‘Crunchy Chicken Salad’ (recipe from the SP Cookbook) it turned out awesome! We really like it -- we used fat free mayonnaise, vanilla fat free greek yogurt and I didn’t have any walnuts at the time.
Today we’re making ‘Slow Cooker Salsa Chicken’ also from the SP Cookbook. We’re going to try it with whole wheat tortilla wraps and also whole wheat tortilla chips.

Friday is the start of week two and also our weigh in day and “free” day. We’re making a homemade pizza.
Saturday we have planned to try the ‘Warm & Spicy Banana Waffles’ & ‘Spicy Turkey Mini Meatloaves both from the SP Cookbook.
Sunday we’re doing a whole chicken with various veggies, boiled potatoes and some gravy.

Other changes we have made to our eating habits:
1.We bought a waffle maker on Sunday so we can make batches of waffles for the week
2.We’re now making our own ice cream and frozen yogurt
3.We still buy the package sandwich meat but now it’s the fat free chicken & turkey slices
4.We didn’t fully give up mayonnaise; instead we gave up the calorie wise and started buying the fat free version (I had no idea you could even buy it in fat free)
5.We stopped buying the premade jell-o and pudding cups & bought the fat free pudding boxes and adding skim milk to it and the sugar free jell-o boxes --- when we make this we pour it off into portions so it can set into a serving sized container, perfect for my husband’s lunch box
6.We started buying whole wheat bread and whole wheat plain bagels
7.And we now have a nice amount of fresh foods on hand that we’re really enjoying!

We've cut back on the amount of screen time. The tv is no longer left on as "background noise" when we're busy with something else inside. My daughter and I got out a lot this week, enjoying the beautiful weather before it's gone again!
Our outdoor family activity was a walk! It was fun, we all enjoyed it. Beautiful view of the water and looked at boats.


So far we think we’re doing well with this change!

I've finally rejoined this challenge along with another healthy eating challenge.

Friday March 01 2013
Week 01 Day 01

To reduce screen time we're going to monitor our family screen time activities over the next few days and begin cutting back on Monday.
Other ways we're cutting back is like I mentioned last time I was on here, no iPhones during meals and no laptops. The tv will be shut off during meals.

My husband and I have been talking about getting healthier together for our daughter. We have designated March the month to focus on our nutrition since we have the fitness part down.

We made over our kitchen. I scrubbed everything down today and when my husband got home we went through the food in the cupboards and the fridge & freezer. It worked out perfectly because we're going grocery shopping tomorrow :)
Everything that was expired or already opened and is considered bad we threw out. Everything else that wasn't on the list to keep we set aside and will donate it over the weekend.

Our goals for this challenge is :
-Eat healthier meals.
-Cook a recipe from the SparkPeople Cookbook at least once a week.
-Do an active outdoor family activity on the weekends (it's too late by the time my husband gets home from work during the weekday)
-Get out to the boardwalk with my daughter at least twice a week (the snow is almost gone and I don't feel comfortable walking on the road with her)
-And we'd both like to lose at least 8lbs.

Shoot!
I have to leave this challenge and rejoin at a later date :(
I "lost touch" with spark people a few days before my daughters fourth birthday and then Christmas was here. And now I have the flu! Once I'm fully recovered I'll rejoin and complete this challenge! :)

Catch up time after a very busy weekend!

Sunday December 16 2012
Day 06 Week 01

1. Continue our Wii Fit Plus family challenge in the evenings emoticon
2. Sit down together in the dining room for suppers without iPhones or laptops ~~ we weren't home for supper. Our daughter was with her grandparents and we were in the city.
3. Read a story or two at bedtime together ~~ didn't read a story that night. We were late getting home and our daughter was already asleep so we went on to bed too.
