emoticon This week, I have planned on making an old Weight Watcher's Chili recipe I found. I am going to tweak it for sodium and instead of using veal for the meat, I will use lean turkey instead. My family loves chili of most any kind. I remember this being very tasty.
I'm continuing to be a WIP!

emoticon Day 1 Looks like back to planning my meals ahead. I made it a month & then the last two weeks I slacked off again. Spring seems like time to make more salads. Maybe trying a new salad each week. My husband is really tough when it come to change in recipes. emoticon

emoticon My goals for this 1st week are:
I definitely need to get organized to approach the subject and involve everyone in the plan. The family meeting is a great start. Easiest is cutting back on TV time and encouraging my GS to eat some different types of foods instead of his usual base.

I am just starting out on my weightloss journey and I would like to take my family with me so that we can be a bit more healthy. I feel very guilty for not instilling good eating habits and activity levels with my children.

Some of my main goals for the family is to cook more at home. We eat out way too much. Another goal is to get more activity into our day. As a family we are fairly sedintary. We are living with my grandparents while we wait to close on our house. It is a bit hard to be active here. Tiny yard on a busy street doesn't make for good outside time with three little ones.

for the first week my goal is to turn off everything and everyone sits down to eat together. right now our schedules all allow it and there is no reason why it can't happen every night. i'm guilty of letting my son eat in front of the tv and then i end up eating while i cook or later in the night. my bf is the only one that ends of eating at the table after i cook!

Reinforcing rule that TV goes off at 9:00. Will also try to make a dent in computer time, but as husband is a computer junkie, don't know how successful I'll be without his support. Also going to post new chore charts, menu for week and ongoing grocery list on the fridge. Will have another mtg with the kids to reestablish our routine. Hopefully someone will be inspired.

Just had a family meeting with the kids (hubby and I have already talked about our new health and fitness goals). We came up with favorite recipes we wanted to put a healthier spin on, as well as ideas for activities we could do as a family three times a week. Don't really know how to incorporate my husband into this. He works very long hours during the week, so will only be available Saturday and Sunday when he's wiped out. May be able to convince him to do something active on the Wii with us one evening during the week.

Our activity ideas:
-Walk/run/ride bikes on high school track, around town, in state park, etc
-Swimming
-Park activities, including basketball and tennis
-Canoeing, kayaking
-Backyard activities, including badminton, ping pong, kickball

My plan for next week (will be our Week 1) is to:

- Spend less time watching TV.
- Start family play/fun time.
- Prepare a new healthy dish for the family (I already cook pretty healthy and we eat most of our meals at home, and always together)

I will do this! Goal will be mine in 2012!

P.S. YOU can do it, too!

Christy :)

My goals are:
*Make a healthy meal plan, including snacks, and stick to it. I have tried before and when I did I saved a lot of money.
*More activates out door for the kids.
*Stick to my already planned exercise plan.
*Chore list.

All right lets see how this week goes!

We are good about eating together, and being active together, so my big goal is to help the kids not eat anywhere but the kitchen. They tend to take snacks to their rooms, etc., and I think it's not a good habit to get into. They were rather shocked by my request this morning to keep it in the kitchen--I've always said it, but they've never realized I meant it!

This challenge looks challenging for me. I have two weak areas planning and following through. So my family goals are;
1. Plan healthy meals
2. Add more daily vegetables
3. Less sugar and treats.

I have already cut down on the wii to only Fri, Sat. Sun. but they still watch too much tv especially the younger ones. This is really hard to tell because they never sit still for very long so they are out and in constantly or they are playing and listening to the tv not sitting and watching. My kids have chores except for the little ones but I'm trying to work on their self-cleaning skills. I am going to try really hard to work on these goals and hopefully I can succeed.

I can't wait to sit my children down and have them help plan the activity for the next day.
They can choose when they want to use their tv minutes etc.

Screen time management and meal planning management. Top 2 goals.

My main goal is to sneak in more vegetables at meals and to replace junky snacks with healthier options. My 3 yr old especially needs encouragement to eat vegetables. I need to get hubby on board with healthier eating, in particular I want to get him to order less takeout for the family. I also want to keep the kids active during winter by hosting living room 'dance parties' and mock gym classes.

Lugging around flab is way more of a drag than counting calories ever will be.

Our family goals:
Reduce tv time by half. Only one hour of tv a day for my 15 month and two year old.
Reduce the amount of sugar/treats/sweets given to the children. Transition into giving fruits and veggies for snacks.
Reduce the amount of times we eat out, order in, take out. Once a week is plenty.
Reduce the trips to Caribou Coffee and McDonnalds for Lattes and Mochas. (This one will be especially difficult for me emoticon )

My goals:
1. We had our family meeting that went better than I thought it would about how we were going to make healthier food choices and restrict eating out to a once a month treat.
2. Whenever possible, eat together..Currently the kids and I will sit and eat but I would like my husband to stop sitting in front of the computer..And actually before I gave my pep talk, he has been sitting with us the last few nights..It's been wonderful..
3. Making sure everyone understands their roles for picking up after themselves and their assigned tasks. I have gotten a little lax enforcing but I now have a simple chart listing what I would like them to do..I categorize them into morning and evening "basics." I have weekly points, a minimum level and if they reach it they can choose to do a special activity to do with me..
4. Increasing our activity level..We just went roller skating yesterday and will try ice-skating next weekend..We will also do a Zumba class together and swim until the weather is nice and we can resume biking and hiking..

I am going to :

Eat at home. No fast food. Even for the preschooler who begs for Mcdonalds.

Create a meal plan with the family so they can participate and help prepare.

Enforce the chore list so that I can actually have time to cook and not worry about the trash, dishes, picking up the living room, etc.

Have meals as a family as much as possible. We are such a busy family, this really isn't realistic, but the effort is going to get made!

did a lot better with week one then i thought we would ,we always eat supper together, they did good with there chores because we made a deal that if they complained about them then there was no tv time for that day ,we try to make there chores fun ,make them in to games , and as for tv was a little bit harder for my 8 year old but we them that our new year resolution was to stay healthy and spending to much time on the tv or games was very bad for your health,so it worked ,and this week there sports are starting up again so that keeps them busy too so all and all were not doing to bad so far.

life is what you make of it , so don`t let it bring you down.

Goals for week one:

emoticon Cooking with the kids: I cook at home at least 6 nights a week already, but I want to get my kids more involved in meal prep. It's easier to reinforce healthy choices when they are in the kitchen with me and we are discussing it together.

emoticon More water! I know we don't drink enough water right now. My kids each have their own water bottle and I'd like them to drink at least one bottle a day. My husband and I need to remember to aim for our 64oz!

emoticon Increase active time together! My husband and I are both doing P90X, so we get plenty of exercise. But everyone (including the dogs!!) could use more outdoor play time to keep us moving.

emoticon Age Appropriate Chores- for everyone! I need to assign specific tasks for the kids to do on a consistent basis, I need to make a schedule for myself with housecleaning, and I need to remind my husband to take a more active role in the upkeep of our home.

Cooleyfam has given me a great idea ... I was struggling with how to implement some things but the ticket system seems like it could be the answer!

1: emoticon Less screen time in general ... computer, tv, games ... kids will need to earn tickets in order to buy screen time *but* with a limit on how much screen time they can buy.

2: emoticon Meal planning for healthier meals ... we already eat together as a family at least 6 nights a week ... we also eat a salad before the meal ... it's just sometimes throw together at the last minute and not exactly what I'd call healthy. I would also like to get back into a bit of freezer cooking so that when I have evening classes or a migraine, any one of the children could pop something healthy into the oven or crock pot and wah-lah a healthy supper ready to eat!

3: emoticon Chore time again - A few months ago I ripped our chore chart down because it was stressing me out in a bad way. It was easier to do it all - all by myself than it was to stay on the kids to do what they were supposed to. The ticket system may be an absolute great way to avoid the stress - kids will be motivated to do the chores in order to earn screen time, friends over, etc and I'm not going to stay on them ... if they don't do it and I do, then no ticket - or maybe *I* get the ticket ... still working out specifics!!!

4: emoticon Outdoor play and physical activity - My kids are pretty active as they play sports ( emoticon soccer, emoticon track & field, emoticon gymnastics, emoticon archery, etc ... and have the little bitty bodies to show for it) ... but I'd like to see more outside play in general, not something organized, just being outside doing something!

5: Sit down as a family this week and discuss the new system we'll be implementing starting Sunday emoticon

This week I hope to plan healthier meals, and schedule least 5 days of some sort of cardio exercise: Swimming, Basketball, etc. We are busy people but we got to fit it in. Even if we cant do it together, maybe to hold each other accountable.
Its back to school so we will not have any game time during the week, and little to No TV.

My goals for the next week are:

1 - Back to no TV during the week. We used to have this, but as things got busy, my husband and I turned to the television as babysitter after dinner more and more.

2 - Plan the meals. Again, we used to do this, but we have four people making dinner throughout the week so each is responsible for their own dinner. This often means fish sticks and fries for the kids three times a week!

Goal 1- less TV time. The kids know they get to watch 1 movie a day. Nothing more. We have successfully completed 2 days of this. Today will be day 3.

Goal 2- eat at home as a family. We got into a bad habit of eating out a lot. The family knows eating out will now only occur twice a month.

Goal 3- have a family meeting to discuss exercise and eating right. Then make a plan so everyone exercises.

Goal 4- chores! We are going back to our ticket system. The kids get tickets for brushing teeth, getting dressed, making beds, eating fruit or veggies, and other chores asked of them. Then they have to pay tickets to watch tv, play wii, have a friend over, go bowling, etc. It's good encouragement for them to help me more.

2. less TV time, and have two family nights where we just hang out together and depending on weather go for a walk, or just play games.

have a great week everyone

As a single mom of 2 boys who works 2 jobs this is going to be tough. But my first goal is to get my family together for meals at least 3 times a week. Starting next week when the boys return to school I will also be cutting out TV in the morning. I am hoping to get us to eat breakfast together in the mornings too.

my goals for this week is stuff we already do. meal plans, well that just comes with my budgeting kills. i work out what we are having meal wise before i shop. So i only get what is on my list.

And less screen time. We don't watch TV much. We live to put on Music DVD's a lot. though, i'll admit, my daughter's Miley Cyrus dvd is driving me nuts! lol

We all have our own personal barriers, be they mental or physical. We are all nervious about trying new things and giving ourselves bigger mountains to climb. We worry about the "what ifs". But you can do anything you want to - the only limits are those that exist in your mind.

My goals for this week are
1. Less t.v time. the tv is on all day everyday and the kids sit down often to watch. so i am aiming for 2hrs a day or less in small bits like 20minutes when i make meals or around 2pm for some down time.
2. get out more. I know winter is coming but kids LOVE the snow. i personally hate it BUT they are only young once so i really want to let them enjoy the outdoors and not be lazy like their momma. lol. and even if its just playing inside, my son is always asking me to play with him, so NO MORE EXCUSES. i just need to do it.
3. I want to get creative with our meals. my middle child loves pizza too much, so I'm hoping to start making my own sauce so i can add lots of veggies and some chicken in it to make her pizza healthier for her.

there is always more id like to work on but those are the biggest things i think that need to change.

Hello everyone,
My goals for this week is to get my 2 teenagers & myself eating dinner (& lunch would be nice) @ the kitchen table--together!! We used to do this nightly & our conversations were wonderful, enlightening, & often quite funny. I miss those.

I had a talk with my family about eating healthier and everyone was receptive!! We even picked a new fruit to try-persimmon! Any ideas how to eat it?

I have also tried to reduce screen time by letting them play for a little at the playground after school each day. I get involved by pushing them on the swing, swinging myself of course, and lifting them up to the monkey bars-I also walk to pick them up on nice days!! emoticon

I'm just glad everyone is on board!!

I would like to find some quality family time other than having family time as us watching television together.

I'm here to get ideas to not only get my family on board with my husband and I losing weight but to also get my family to do things together. We've all been very busy and absorbed in our own lives and have fallen out of sorts with each other (obviously I'm talking about my older kids) ;)

I joined this challenge because I know that I need to have my daughters adapt and learn with me a healthier lifestyle. I work a lot and I am learning to make time for exercise but I also need to make family time. We need to spend more time together doing healthy activities and growing together as a family. i joined because it will make me focused on my family and health together as a lifestyle.

My goals this week are to

1. Hold a family meeting with my daughters to discuss the challenge and and making changes together for a healthier family

2. Stop screen time in the mornings before school/work and no screen time (blackberry included!) 30 min after we get home.

3. Set my family up for success - together we will create a schedule and grocery list and I will attempt a weekly meal plan

As a family this would mean a lot to me for all of to learn how to eat healthy and stay active! Currently we are all picky eaters, eat on the go most of the time, have a lot of junk food in the house. For our first goal is to clean the pantry, make a weekly grocery list, and take out soda!
It also is kind of challenging when the my kids are 7 and 3 so it will be a task of its own to make get them to eat healthy!

My son is in kindergarten and the new core curriculum requires him to write a nonfiction story and read it aloud. So I have been working with him and his younger sister about writing stories and reading them aloud to me. It is so neat to teach your kids to believe in themselves! He picked The White House since Daddy is in DC a lot for work. He was going to write about Abraham Lincoln...so proud of this kiddo!
