1. Increase time spent being active outdoors (ex: going for walks, playing at the pool, etc.)
2. Increase time spent doing fitness related activities.
3. Spend more time keeping the house clean so that we can enjoy our time spent indoors.
Goal = Lose 32 more pounds.

1. Reduce screen time: we are getting out of the hotel in the mornings for pool time and going out in the evenings to the playground. 2. Family meeting: because we are in thge middle of a move, I decided to skip this step, make a command decision, and since the kids are so young, they'll never know :) DH and I have discussed some options, such as... 3. An ounce of preparation is worth an ounce of pound of chaos: DH and I already talked about slashing the poundage of our household goods. Traveling makes it hard to plan meals, etc.

My goal is to introduce everyone in my house to a healthier lifestyle and to teach us all (adults and children alike) how to be healthy.
My challenge is to get my kids more motivated to do more besides sit in front of tv or computer. To eat better foods and to exercise one a day for 30 minutes or a nice walk as long as weather permits. Also to get my husband also into the new healthy regimen with the rest of us.

I will challenge my family and myself to decrease tv time and fill with exercise and family fun time. I also want to start eating healthier as a family. I'm shooting for my son and I to lose 10-15 pounds each.

I have been working with my 10 year old son because I want him to make healthier choices when it comes to eating. Also, we are logging his tv time to see how much time he is actually spending watching tv. This seems to be the time when he wants to snack the most. Also, I have been spending more quality time with my son so that he is more active.

We already have a great chore chart so that wasn't a problem. What we had to do was clean sweep the kitchen.
My goal is to restock it with more of the organic yummy stuff we buy already. Whole Foods here we come. It is hard to purchase everything wonderful for such a large family, but we have budgeted out some things for other healthy ones. We will see how it goes.
We also need to schedule time for family. We have been riding bikes together every day. Our

Goals: I made a "JOB JAR" Inside are little pieces of paper with a job on it. JT can pick a job to help me out and then gets a marble to put in a jar. When the jar is full we get to do something fun (pool, movie...)
We already have supper together every night so I am going to try to give our meals a healthy makeover.
Cut down on TV time. My boys can watch one 30 minute show in the morning.
Family activity 3 times a week (take a walk, go to park, go swimming, bike ride)
I really need to get my house organized. I just more control over clutter, laundry and daily chores. When I am organized the house just move more smoothly. I am good for a week and then the weekend comes and I lose it. Organization is one of my biggest obstacles.

My goal challenges for the family are:
1) Make at least one healthy meal for the whole family per week. 2) Eat at least 3 meals together per week. 3) Organize our house and clean it at least 1 hour daily, everybody involved. 4) Make time to have a devotional time together to pray and read bible at least 20 min. 3 times a week.
P.S. Yesterday I made a recipe from sparkpeople recipes: Lemony fish with vegetables and rice and I was very surprised that my son ate everything, he liked the fish (he had never eaten fish) and put aside the chicken instead. You can see the recipe in my cookbook.

I was challenged to get my family to eat new veggies and fruits...variety. I tried jicima this week. It was too obvious in a chop salad, so I had to "hide" it in a side dish. It got eaten without comment.

Get & stay organized. I seem to do well for a while. Meals are planned, everything is on the calendar, and then life gets busy and things get pushed aside. For me, when I am organized, I make better choices.

-- Cook dinner most nights. There are a couple of nights a week where one of us isn't home, and the tendency to turn toward convenience foods is so strong! We are going to start planning our meals (we used to do this, don't know why we quit), buying all the ingredients over the weekend, and cooking them!
-- Add veggies to dinner. We do not get enough vegetables, so I want to make an effort to have some kind of veggie side with each dinner.
-- Exercise the dogs. We had been walking them pretty regularly, then it got too hot for them. So I'd like to get back to some kind of fitness routine for them (and my boyfriend, who hasn't been fully Sparked yet), be it walking around the block or playing in the backyard.
-- Clean the clutter. We are notoriously bad about cluttering up the kitchen, leaving the game controllers around the living room, rinsing the dishes but not loading the dishwasher, etc. This needs to stop!
I am confident I can change this for myself; whether I can get my boyfriend on the bandwagon will be the challenge :)

My goals for my family are for everyone to eat healthy food, get in more activity, and to do chores regularly!
I put up a chore chart a few days ago and my two youngest have been doing extra chores to receive stars. My 11 yo son actually dusted the living room and basement today without me having to ask!
My fitness goal is for us to get moving AT LEAST one hour everyday. My nutritional goal is to cook less food. We have become so use to 2nds and 3rds and scrape the pot clean! Eating slower, drinking more water. Other goals include sitting down to eat at together at leas 3 times a week(That's a hard one)and getting more sleep.

I thought I had posted already, but I guess not. No worries, the more I "write" them down, the more I'll stick with them.
My goals for this challenge are to get my family to eat better, and for us to be more active. I've got my work cut out for me, believe me. My husband doesn't believe in taking his lunch to work, he either eats out or doesn't eat. Also, he's a gamer, so if he's not at work, he's in front of the computer or the tv.
My strategy is to show him that it is much more economical for us to eat at home, and not eat out. As for getting more active, we own a Wii, and I know there are games we can play that will get him off his fanny.

I joined the challenge to give and gain support and find new ideas of coming together as a family, I went through a divorce and my focus was turned backto myself and my kids after a bad marriage. we started eatign meals together in the new year and started walks together, my eldest daughter is over weight so toencourage her and not make her feel like the odd one out i decided it was best that we made health a family issue andchange our lifestyle,I started by illiminating processed foods, I say now we eat abotu 5% of processed foods, then I incorproated more exercie slowly, walks, bike rides, etc, my children walk to school and back so they get in activity that way too. I know there is still so much more i can do, so here I am.
My goals for this week are to go swimming, I have laways made excuses so i did not have to get in swim suit, so this week i bit the bullet, I signed up for a free 5 week course of mother and baby swim classes and am takign the kids 1 night after school which we are going to make a regularthing. Also i want to out walking 3 times this week witht he children, or a family bike ride, if it rains then it will be the family trainer on the Wii, we already eat meals together, but i think i am going to get the kids more involved in helping prepare healthy meals, they loved making smoothies yesterday.

Our challenge goals for this week is to get out and go for a walk at least 4 times. I usually use the heat as an excuse so if it is too hot out we will go the mall and walk around in the air conditioning.
To et healthy home cooked meals together everyday! We are a family that tends to eat out alot!!!

*Fitness Goal: Family hike once a week
I've been wanting to get my family out every weekend for a hike - something that will take us away from our neighborhood park and help us all get some exercise. I bought a book a few months ago with a bunch of local kid-friendly hikes, and I was vaguely thinking how cool it would be to tackle one hike every weekend. We actually did one last weekend and all enjoyed ourselves. So, now I just need to plan out which hikes will be the best to start with, put them in our schedule, and then make it happen!
*Fitness Goal: Reduce screen time for family
My husband is one of those people who has to have noise in the background, so he'll have the tv on all the time, which just encourages him and our son to watch it. Now that the weather is nicer, I'm encouraging our son to play outside with his friends rather than play computer games or watch tv inside. And, I'm trying to get my husband to turn off the tv and go swimming or play ball with our son every day too. I think we'll be able to reduce our screen time by an hour a day with all the outdoors activities we can do right now, and hopefully we'll be able to keep that going even when fall gets here.
*Diet/Nutrition Goal: Get the whole family to eat dinner at the table
This used to be a family rule, but my husband always fought it because he likes to watch tv while he eats (which drives me crazy!), and with the chaos of a new baby it was just easier to let him do that. But, I think it's time to get him away from the tv and back in the kitchen with the rest of us. I've always felt a family dinner is important, but now that our baby is starting to eat regular food too I think it's really important that we set a good example for him to follow.

My goals this week are to incorporate Noah into my eating times. I have been feeding him and then fixing my meals which makes dinner really late at night. He is able to sit in the highchair while I eat. He doesnt feed himself yet so it will be time to feed him and then me but if my food was ready when he eats then it would be one continuous meal.
I also need to find time to play with him more. Quality play. I do play but now that its spring and the weather is better I want to start playing outside. He and I do walk together in the evening.
Look for the good in everyone and you will find it.

Hi everyone! My name is Julie and I have two girls aged 4 and 6.
My main challenge goal is to break the constant snacking with my 6 year old. She will eat breakfast and then an hour later ask if it is snack time. She has also gotten to the point where she goes into the kitchen herself and gets her own snack. My 4 year old doesn't do this as much yet, but she generally follows in her sisters lead. Neither of my daughters are overweight - I just don't want them to start bad eating habits at this young age.
My other goal this summer is to do family walks most nights of the week. We did this last summer and after a few weeks, the girls started enjoying and looking forward to it each night.
You will never find time for anything. You must make it.

I don't believe that tv in the enemy but what we are doing infront of it can be. I use my elliptical and the Wii Fit Plus while watching tv, for me this ensures that I will workout long. Our family takes walks to the park and we eat together almost every night and never in fron of the tv. Mostly, I just want the kids to eat the healthy food that is put infront of them and I need to find ways to make good food taste great without sugar and fat!

Family Meeting - Done...my dd (18) and I are partnering as workout buddies until Sept; my ds (21) talked to his buddies about his "no alcohol" challenge for the summer; dh and I are walking for an hour every night; we all made a list of "no purchase" foods..each of us is giving up one unhealthy food item this next week.
We're gong to try to eat together at least 3 times a week.
This weeks challenge: Reduce TV time at night: No TV for me at all. My dh will give up one hour at night to walk with me. DD and DS don't really have time to watch it anyway.
Planning: We're creating a dry erase board on-going grocery list and weekly evening meal plan. We posted a list of SP's 100 Super Foods on our fridge to give us all some healthier choices.
Eat real food...not too much.

I'm just starting my weight loss journey. I set myself a goal to be running (ok jogging) enough to do a 5k fun run in october. My partner is great, and even though he's fitter than me its inspired him too - and now he's going to do the fun run with me, and a 15k adventure run in july.
My kids are awsome - very active and prefer fruit and/or yoghurt over the junky stuff. I'm a proud mum in that respect.
The thing is that my kids are at school from 9-3:30 and I work from 4-7 durring the week and 9-2 on saturdays, so we dont get a lot of time together - unless its staring at the tube.
I'm using this challenge to get us doing more active things together - I'm very close to my kids and class them as friends, and I dont want to miss out on sharing their lives with them!

As I have slowly lost weight and established healthier habits for myself my family has also adapted to some of them. My goal to teach my boys not just how to make healthier choices in what they eat but for them to learn how to prepare some of those meals as well. Also both my boys are in fall sports so our other goal is to keep them active even though school is out.

I tried setting a good example; however supportive my family is, they aren't getting the good idea.
My husband and my son spend most of their time in front of the television screen. If they are not watching a movie, they are playing a video game. I have no issues with either of these actions in themselves. I do have issues with the lacking of activity. Neither son nor husband is over weight or suffering from medical issues so they do not see a need to be active or exercise. My goal is to help them understand the benefits of being healthy before you get sick.
