didn't have much luck with my garden so i did not freeze or can much. i did strawberries, but that is only because i went to a U-pick place so i could get a bunch cheaper then the store. even that place did not have many days because the weather did not cooperate.
i have a dehydrator and i often do fruit leathers and bananas. if apples go on sale i will do them again.

My grandmother is teaching me how to can tomatoes - make it a tomato sauce. I think next year I am going to go up to my aunts house and have her teach me how to can green beans and everything else she grows. And what to do with dried herbs and everything. I can't wait to get my own place and have a garden!!! Lots of squash and tomatoes and everything else I can think of!!!

My sister used to keep an ice cream pail in her fridge freezer. All the leftovers went in the pail and when it was half to 3 quarters full, she made soup or depending what was in it, thickened it to use as a stew. In all the years she did that, she said that she only had maybe 2 soups where not everything went together very well, so next time she had leftover of that one item, she stored it seperately.

I freeze all my leftovers. That way I can use them later without worry about spoilage. Makes some great lunches and quick suppers. I just put them in single serving sizes. I also buy larger packages of meat and freeze them in smaller amounts. Even ground beef. Cindi

Fruits and vegetables are so plentiful all year in South Florida it isn't necessary. I do, however, freeze cranberries when in season and blueberries when they are on sale. Same goes for bananas.

I used to do a fair amount of canning (not veggies because I never had a pressure canner -- but lots of fruit)
Now with physical limitations, I don't can anymore, but I do freeze stuff when I can. Sadly, I don't have my own garden anymore, so whatever I do put up has to be bought. But it still saves money to buy when plentiful and freeze rather than buy throughout the year at higher prices.

I always used to do that. Now that it's just two of us, I don't do as much, but still put up green tomato chutney, hot pepper jelly, and some fruit jams.

I just started canning this year. I am still learning or trying to remember back to when I was a little girl. I was finally able to have a garden this year. I have tomatoes out the wazoo, which I am very grateful for because we use them a lot. I also grew peppers onions beans carrots beets radishes spinach cabbage lettuce melons a some herbs. Lots of work, but soooo much better than from the store.
