I have been keeping my salt below 2500. Hopefully when I go to the doctor there will be a big improvement in my BP. By eating healthier I have lowered all other numbers by a great margin.
I find that the recipes are tasty and some very fast to make.

The most beneficial goal that I could currently make would be to minimize fats in any recipe that I prepare. Staying within the fat range for my daily nutrition is one of my biggest challenges.

I have tried several recipes from the vast amount on Spark People. I found a few that I make more often than others. I enjoy cooking as long as long as it pleases my taste buds. I wish all of you the best in this endeavor for healthier living inside and out.

Thank you. I wish the same for you and to all our other members who are trying so hard to lose the weight and eat healthy. I have learned through the years that it is I who has to walk the walk. I needed the encouragement from my love ones but I have to be willing to do the work. I also found that the less I expect from my husband the more I got.

These are all good goals. I wish you much success!
As for me, also want to continue to cook healthy.
And try at least one new recipes a week when I possibly can.
(Maybe getting a second job so will be using the slow cooker).
Also wanting to teach my boyfriend how to cook.
Chris is sweet but knows how to cook nothing but hotdogs and frozen pizza.
His mom was happy I got him a slow cooker book. lol
(I also gave him a Georgia Bull dog mug for Valentine's Day so he was ok with it).
I am going to go for now. Have a good day and a great weekend.

On week 4 there was a link to healthy cooking resources. Some of these were articles I had saved as favorites so I could refer back to them (such as healthy substitutions), but some I have not read yet. I finished the four weeks and got my trophy, but I plan to refer back to these resources time and time again, until healthy cooking becomes second nature to me. emoticon

Goal 1: continue trying a new recipe each week and continue analyzing my old recipes for nutrients.
Goal 2: learn how to cut sodium (I've been tracking for over a month and it is usually on the high side) Today I had a dill pickle- who knew they were so high in sodium!
Goal 3: learn more ways to prepare fish and have fish at least twice a week
Goal 4: have chicken at least twice a week
Goal 5: explore ways to use more vegetables and different ways to enjoy them

Wise choices each day will get me where I want to be.

My long term goal is to continue cooking healthy meals at home. Eating out will be done on special occasions only. I am getting close to goal and love the way I look and feel. I am able to get all the proteins and fiber into my diet. I love eating 3 to 5 veggies and fruit every day! My main struggle is menu planning, but I am striving to plan my menus for the week!

I already cook most meals at home, easier if you live out in the boonies like I do! For long term goals more freezer meals, they are working great and I make freezer meals for my parents too. I have changed quite a few of my favorite recipes to healthier options using less fat, more whole grains and less sodium. I will also use more whole wheat flour, and other whole grains, got some black rice the other day sounds tasty, all the colored rices are much more flavorful then the white rice. This is summer so bring the veggies on, love cooking from my gardens both veggies and herbs.

My goal in joining this challenge was to find a way to help my husband adopt healthy eating/shopping without talking about calories. He has shared the shopping and cooking for a couple of years (I work and he is retired). We have been eating healthy for five years, only eat out once a month, but a treat for him could be the whole bag of pretzels. He now talks about serving size and makes more than one vegetable. He has also cut the use of artificial sweeteners to a diet Pepsi occasionally. And I have caught him with a cook book a few times. I had a recipe from SparkRecipes to a pile to try - yesterday one of the recipes was clipped to he cupboard door! I guess he wants me to make that one. Future goal - to continue sharing the kitchen duties - it has become a pleasant activity of ours - part of our new healthy lifestyle.

My long term cooking goal is to make my own frozen meals. I tend to get hooked on eating premade meals out of little packages, but generally I'm good about adding to them. They're great for when I'm busy or don't feel like cooking.

My goal is to make a big batch of food at least once a week, then divide it into portions and freeze it so I can I have healthier and more filling meals to eat in minutes.

Hello all,

Found two recipes from curves that I will be trying this week. One is Salmon with mushrooms and bok choy. The other is a lighter version of beef stew. I am looking forward to making them and let them know how they are. Plan next to buy new veggies.

My long term cooking goal is to use healthier ways of cooking food. I will get help from Curves Complete which I will be joining next week. I also plan to add one vegetarian meal to my diet each week for lunch and for dinner.

We will keep trying at least one new recipe every week for a long term goal. I have looking at labels closer now and I am shocked. Keep going and keep reading!

Stick with your favorite healthy cooking techniques.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I miss my rice cooker. I am hoping my birthday or Mother's Day, I will get a new one. I am still trying to figure out the crockpot recipes. I just can't get those to turn out right. Sometimes, but not all the time.
I like Create Your Own Frozen Dinners and big batch cooking. Those tips help out!

I learned to saute my veggies in low sodium chicken broth. And I continue to cook in bulk, separating servings for the next couple of days and for freezing. Veggie lasagna was a new dish and a big hit. I froze individual servings for future "take-out". Turkey breast was roasted, served two and froze the rest in individual servings as well.

Try one new "lower/healthier something" recipe each week. This week it will be an almond pound cake recipe I found that uses almond flour instead of wheat flour. I'll serve that with fresh berries for dessert on Easter.

Continue to build a repertoire of spark recipes that we love, tossing out those that don't suit us.

Saute' my veggies with water rather than oil.

My long term goals will be for me to continue batch cooking for lunches during the week and pre-portioning serving sizes so packing my lunch becomes much quicker.
I will also pre-cook several healthier meals for nights my hubby doesn't want to eat healthy, he can have his high fat food and I'll eat my already prepared, healthier food :-)

Long term goals -

Continue to modify recipes to exclude wheat and sugar
Plan ahead each week
Use freezer more to store extra servings when I get in a cooking frenzy and want to try all sorts of things
Try at least one new recipe each week
Try at least one new food each week

Long term goals:

Have 3 "emergency" go-to recipes for those times when the planned menu just doesn't work
Keep a fun and easy to work in kitchen
Learn to cook different kinds of fish (so we can eat more of it)
Include one lunch or dinner out in each week's plan (to keep things fun)

Since I am trying to adopt a clean eating lifestyle, no chemical preservatives, pesticides, chemically treated food, no GMOs (genetically modified organisms) I do plan on cooking more things from scratch from now on and pumping everything up with as many vegetables as I can.
Really the only way I know to be completely GMO free is to get all my animal products, ie meat, dairy, eggs, organic and well organic meat is really expensive. So right now I am trying to get as many food products clean and non-GMO as I can afford, sadly not everything is clean and free of GMOs, but like weight loss, it is a process.
