Tools I use a lot in the kitchen are:
Hand held blender: great for soups and sauces. I blend up vegetable soups so they are nice thick and comforting. Homemade sauces are a breeze with this as you can add all those vegetables and blitz them up and no one has a clue they are eating hidden veggies.
Crockpot: I have just started using one and the results are brilliant. I had a hospital appointment and that meant I was out all day as I had to travel to get there. So I did a meal in the crockpot and when I came in dinne was ready and waiting for me.
Steamer: I have the sort of steaamer that you use on the hob not an electric one. I have used this a lot, I even pre-cook things like onions and bell peppers rather than fry them off.
Experts would shake their heads and say I am ruining the flavour but it means the food is not absorbing fat and that has to be good thing.
Scales: These are a real boon I can weigh out my cereals, snacks and portions easily with these. I weigh out the cereals into little bags and put them back into the box. That way I can grab a bag and I know the portion is correct. It takes a little time when I bet the new cereal box but the time is well spent when I can grab breakfast and not have to weigh it.
I do the same with snacks like nuts and dried fruit, weigh out the portion size and I have the correct amount in a little bag, easy to pop into a lunch box or to take out with you.
