Since I love to cook at home the kitchen has been organized for a while, more appliances than space, but it works for me. I really need to redo the freezer since that is currently more set up in a pile system. Been wanting to do some batch cooking for a while, guess this weekend will be it since I have some time and it falls on the checklist. Love using the crockpot, although for some reason I am still paranoid about walking out of the house while leaving it on.

oops - I must have posted on a different site... O well. I've been eating more meals at home and have been cooking using the crock pot. It helps! This is GREAT news for me cuz I'm getting that I don't like spending time in the kitchen - there are just too many things I can sneak!

A two day power outage put my plans on hold but now I'm back at it. Cooking was just too hard and too hot - and I didn't want to risk spoiling my food by opening the refrigerator door, despite the dry ice.

I already do a lot of the week 2 steps, at least occasionally. I intentionally cook more than DH and I will eat so we'll have leftovers for lunch and do big batch cooking about once a month. My kitchen is already gadget-tastic, so I'm focusing on using them more. I also already keep a running list on a magnetized paper pad on the refrigerator door.

tough week for me. My mom was released from the hospital but I've been running back and forth to her house taking her for walks and doing things for her. I've been mostly good on my food but haven't cooked a lot. Am doing next week's plan tonight and going shopping tomorrow.

I did some batch cooking this weekend, this should help with time and make it easier for me to eat at home only:) The grocery list really does help and it make you think twice about buying something that is not on list. I am enjoying this chanllenge:)

Week 2- I have made larger meals this past week and it has been great because the temps have been in the ninety's so it has been easy to walk in and have a meal ready for that night...........love it. Lots of salads so that was all washed and prepared and put in plastic containers!
Love my George Foreman.I even cooked falafel's on the grill. I just wiped the olive oil on the grill and in three mins they were cooked!

No foods with high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

If an item has more than 10 ingredients it is too processed, I will not eat or buy the item.

Currently I do not see that I need any new kitchen tools. I have worked on the batch cooking, some more this weekend. I have a roast marinating, and some cookie dough ready to be baked. I am also planning to make a batch of rice to freeze in individual portions.

I found Rubbermaid, Take-a-longs in a divided tray form. They have two sections and are split with one being larger than the other. I paid $2.25 for three of them, and the store had a BOGO free sale too, so I got 6 of them. They are great for putting my veggies in the big side and a serving of rice, or other grain, meat, or beans in the other. I also like them for salads. I can put my lettuces in the bigger side, and the cukes, tomatoes etc. in the smaller side. That keeps my lettuce from getting soggy from the other veggies.

JLTURNER, a large part of the success of SparkPeople is in the choices we have. Of course it's all right to swap meals within your plan! It's even all right to go outside your plan for extenuating circumstances. For example, if DH's tummy troubles are acting up, it's usually mac and cheese for us, and the rest of the week's meals get pushed back a day. Whatever works FOR YOU is what works!

I accomplished getting most of my kitchen reorganized this week. My children have been at the beach with my parents so I've been more focused on getting the house organized and getting some "me" time. I haven't been cooking as much since it's just my husband and I this past week so we've been trying to eat out of our overstocked freezer (coupons doubled at stores) instead.

I plan to get my fridge and freezer cleaned in the near future and since the kids are coming back home today I'm sure I'll be cooking again.

I just finished week 2 a little late. Seem to get my time line mixed up since I started the challenge in the middle of the week. I tend to want to go from Monday to Sunday instead of Wednesday to Tuesday. But other than that the week went fairly well. I did 2 big batch cooking,using 2 recipes from the spark people recipes. I have a little problem sticking to my planned menu. Sometimes I don't have a taste for the meal I planned for a certain day so I which to a meal I had planned for another day. I hope this is okay.

Week 2 has gone very well.

Organization is the key for me.

I cook many things to use throughout the week.

I have bought a pasta maker and can't wait to use it and I can make noodles and freeze them.

Week 2 is a success.

I just started week 2, but things are going well so far. I have come to the conclusion that if I want my husband to eat anything besides Ramen, then big batch cooking is going to be the way to go. I was thinking maybe if I made a big batch of beans and rice, he could eat that when he gets home from work.

To that end, I'm going to need to pick up a rice cooker. Any suggestions? I need a good crock pot too. The one I have is only 2 quarts, and I don't think that's going to cut it if I want to cook for my whole family.

Week 2 is going well. I really can't cook in big batches because I have a small freezer. But I was thinking I could a meal on Sunday and have enough left overs for a few days.

Week 2 is going well so far. I made a couple of big batch items. I realized I need to better organize the kitchen - while we did it a while ago, it's slowly become a mess again. Well this 2nd week is going great, I spend the afternoon making a lovely dinner for my husband for Fathers Day and also did some extra cooking for the weeks meals. Already had the BBQ going so I decided to grill some extra chicken and veggies. All ready for the week lunches and dinners.

while thinking about and working on this week (including the 365 crockpot site) I realized that I used to love cooking a lot more. Now it seems like more of a chore. I need to think about some ways to make it more fun and interesting. Like I used to try new stuff at least once a week. For me that means working out what to do with the inevitable certain number of kids not liking it.

Since I have a small restaurant I am used to cooking in batches, and have a well stocked kitchen. Also I'm basically just cooking for myself so one recipe gives me a couple of meals for the week and something to freeze for the future.
There are a lot of foods that don't agree with my stomach,{ sauces and gravys} that's my challenge, so most of the time I try to stick to plain grilled meats and veggies.
Very boring!

Week 2 is almost over for me, and it's been going pretty well. I made over my fridge. Lots of fruits and vegetables!! I always have leftovers at home, since its just me and my son, and we do pretty good on not wasting it. I've done really good on planning my meals and sticking to it.

Hi Marsha,

I agree with you that the 365 crock-pot recipe blog site is fantastic. I subscribed to her email list over a year ago. I was standing in the grocery store one day and a woman was looking for some ingredient for a crock-pot recipe she found on line. It sounded so good that I asked her to share and she gave me the address and I have been a fan ever since. There are so many cooking sites on line and if you want some can easily be made over into healthy and nutritious meals. Thanks for the info.

I looked, really looked in my refrigerator yesterday and this weekend it is getting a major overhaul. After reading some of the articles I realized that I had a lot of unhealthy items in it. I would love a blender for smoothies, but the one I want is a little pricey. Maybe I'll look at immersion blenders as a compromise. Other than that, I have most of the kitchen equipment I need. I use my rice cooker/steamer all the time and love my crockpot too (though more in the winter than in the summer).

I need an immersion blender, but it's just not in the budget this week. I did manage a new set of Take-Alongs to pack leftovers to take to work for lunch, and DH is wonderful about packing it for me every morning. Makes my day easier, and takes care of some of the leftovers.

MARPARMC, let me recommend the Cooking For One Or Two Team here at Spark. There are some great ideas for smaller meals available there. Don't stop cooking!

had many of the recommended items. getting some more coated pans this weekend so i can use less oil. need to find some recipes that are for one or two only. most are for 6 and makes way to much which i have to throw away. one thing that makes me stop cooking

My kitchen is already stocked with necessary tools. I did purchase condiment cups. We use them to hold sauces, people actually put less in the cups than on their plate. We also use them to add nuts to the meal. I put walnuts or peanuts in the cups and serve them on the plate with the meal.

Hello,

I am having fun with this. I found a great recipe for muffins in SP recipes. It sounded so good I just had to try it "Flaxseed, wheat, and bran muffins." The only thing is that I did not have the right food or equipment. I went to the health food store for the ingredients then went a purchased a grinder from "Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I am in 7th heaven. I use my grinder almost daily and I always keep these muffins on hand for part of breakfast or snack.

Just a side note about the muffins: I added protein powder (soy) and increased the amount of water (I use non-fat powered milk) so I get some of my fiber and protein at once.

Yesterday I bought a DVD by Leslie Sansone "Walk at Home" and I actually made it through the warm up (I am way out of shape). I even used my pedometer for the first time. I am set and ready to go, go, go.

Doing fine here. I found at a tag sale, several different sized containers with caps, which fit in side of each other. I use them for left overs, and also to help pack my lunch.
I made my roasted beets yesterday. Way too much for DH and me, so combined the left over cooked beet greens and roasted beets with escrole..blended them..and now put half a cup into my V8 cocktail juice. I have enough for the whole week!

Stand up for yourself and for others who are not as strong as you..always take a stand in what you believe to be the truth.
