My husband and I've been on a diet big on portion control and we've been following a baggy system and using salad sized plates rather than the modern huge dinner plates. After grocery shopping, I wash the fruits and veggies and those that aren't a single item to serve, I weigh/measure and put in baggies so we don't over indulge in our fruits for eg. or skimp on our veggies. I've also been BBQ'g to avoid heating up the house and preparing all kinds of stuff at one time that I can measure and weigh and bag up for future meals. The other day I cooked 4 large steaks on the grill, 5 filets of fish in tinfoil on the rack to cook in their own juices, a pan of 6 boneless and skinless chicken breasts again covered with foil to cook in their own juices and not dry out, and foil packs of veggies. Once cooked, cooled down, weighed and bagged I store either in the frig for meals that day and the next or in the freezer for future meals. When it's mealtime either of us can then grab a plate and take a baggy with a serving of meat, another with a serving of fruit and one or two bags with a serving each of veggies either cooked and/or fresh. Items that were frozen thaw quickly in a single portion size and take only a minute in the microwave to prepare and since the food is already weighed/measured we don't have to redo that - I always find that by the time I weigh stuff, it's no longer as hot as I'd like.
