I have cleaned my kitchen and gave foods to my grandkids. I normally cook supper so this isn't really different, I just have to cook more healthy using more fruits and veggies,

I can do this!

I have really enjoyed getting fresh veggies from my dad's garden this summer. I have gotten so used to cooking with fresh produce since i started SP even though it can be a little costly, it is worth it in the long run. Some other steps i've taken is going to the local farmer's market and once a month there is a program called Harvester's that distributes free produce to anyone.

It's a lot of work on grocery and on cooking days but it saves so much time on other days. We can come home from a late afternoon appt and I can have dinner on the table in minutes. Also, if one feels like one thing and the other something else, no problem, it's all made up so choose what you want. I'm liking it.

What a lot of work but well worth it!

good plan.
My husband and I've been on a diet big on portion control and we've been following a baggy system and using salad sized plates rather than the modern huge dinner plates. After grocery shopping, I wash the fruits and veggies and those that aren't a single item to serve, I weigh/measure and put in baggies so we don't over indulge in our fruits for eg. or skimp on our veggies. I've also been BBQ'g to avoid heating up the house and preparing all kinds of stuff at one time that I can measure and weigh and bag up for future meals. The other day I cooked 4 large steaks on the grill, 5 filets of fish in tinfoil on the rack to cook in their own juices, a pan of 6 boneless and skinless chicken breasts again covered with foil to cook in their own juices and not dry out, and foil packs of veggies. Once cooked, cooled down, weighed and bagged I store either in the frig for meals that day and the next or in the freezer for future meals. When it's mealtime either of us can then grab a plate and take a baggy with a serving of meat, another with a serving of fruit and one or two bags with a serving each of veggies either cooked and/or fresh. Items that were frozen thaw quickly in a single portion size and take only a minute in the microwave to prepare and since the food is already weighed/measured we don't have to redo that - I always find that by the time I weigh stuff, it's no longer as hot as I'd like.

I had already cleaned up the kitchen, yea!!
So, my plan is to start working on eating at home more often.
Being single, it's very easy to just grab something out. It can be cheaper, so I've been telling myself, but maybe not so healthy. So that is my goal, to cook at home and eat better. This is my first week of doing just that. So far, so good! I do go out with friends from work every now and then, but that's ok to splurge once in awhile.
