I listen to music while I fold laundry and clean. My 14 year old is embarrassed but oh well. I prefer to take the steps over an elevator every day. Especially since I was stuck in one once.

Being conscious of finding extra minutes to be active is helpful. Walking when on the phone...moving during the commercials...parking farther away from my destination. They are all little things but they really do add up. I am starting to look for opportunities to be more active

Step 1: Stop and think. Step 2: Take a deep breath. Step 3: Make a good choice.

Working in extra minutes in downtime is my specialty. This week I am getting creative. While walking the dogs twice daily, extra long once, I will do lunges and wall squats against a tree while I am stopped.

I stretch in the morning from bedroom to bathroom, and do genie sit or wall squats during commercial breaks.

It does help to be conscious of the downtime, as I do not have 30 minutes to devote every day.

I live on the 3rd floor and the washing machine is in the basement, we have an elevator, but 1: I don't trust it(wires are hanging out of it) and 2: why should it move me, when I can move myself? :)

2)
I take the bus to/from school and work, so I get off 1 stop too early and walk the rest of the way

3)
If I have the time I walk from school to the train station. It's a good way to gear down after a long day.

4)
I have a rule that 1 thin piece of cake(or the equivalent) "costs" 2000 exercise minutes(but often I don't even wan't the cake I've been exercising for, when the day comes. And the cakeday can't be saved, it's a now-or-never moment!)

5)
I have started looking at exercise as something else than torture necessary for weight loss. It has become my "me-time", and I actually like it. Now it is just about building stamina, so I can start doing the sports and exercises I would like to try! :)

Today I broke into an impromptu "belly dance" while I was doing the dishes. Just squeezing my abs on either side to pull my hips up, but it feels GREAT! And I did 5 modified pushups! YAY!

I got a fitbit for the crazy days when I can hardly find time for exercise which encourages me to park farther away to get in more steps.

During breaks in classes I try to remember to stand up and at least sway a little bit.

MOST days I don't have any trouble at all getting in 10 minutes :) However, there are days when things are nuts and I only get house work done. Does housework count towards our "exercise" time for this challenge? Or only extra activities?

Finally back on track today after three days of missing. Ugh! Did 20 mins of yoga and 30 minutes of walking. It felt great to do them and re-start my streak. Looking forward to working out again tomorrow:-)

I'm adding exercises each day so I don't get bored and I end up doing more than 10 minutes a day. I've included butt scooting on the floor after I brush the dogs (good for the butt), butt dancing in the drivers seat of my car (I really need to work on this big butt) and just pulling in my stomach muscles (upper and lower) as I sit doing other things. As a woman I am also doing my Kegel exercises. Hey, if I'm moving muscles, It counts. emoticon

I've been trying to sneak in extra exercise and movement to build up my minutes... added five minutes on an exercise bike to the walking and yesterday did some resistance band exercises which went well

Yesterday my exercise was housework including several loads of laundry, late supper and dishes finished after 8 so i know I had many steps. I didn't get to walk Brandy which I was not happy with but I had too much else going on. we will go today yet. It is so cold and damp I would rather hibernate.I will do better today, i need those stretches and exercises i learned from PT for neck, shoulder, and lower back. They help keep me going. Georgine

I walk dogs and that usually takes care of at least 10 mins but I have to do it right after hubby leaves for work (5:30am) or it won't get done. I find having the tracker makes me more aware of steps...4000 is do able most days and the preset 6000 is really making me work. I think I'd be exhausted with 10 000 but maybe I'm working up to that

I think I started off a little too strong in the first week as I was very sore on the weekend. I am sticking to my promise to my female chocolate lab that we will walk for at least 20 min. a day as she is overweight too from last winter. I need one knee replaced so am hampered a bit on choices. I did use spark videos in a chair and didn't feel I over did it but guess my body thought so. I have had that delayed onset pain once before--not fun. Still in here trying.
weather is turning to colder, drizzly, wind--always depresses me so i have to PUSH to get outside with brandy. Now to get some better boots and another set of cleats and a good jacket.Have a goo day, Georgine

Day 2 - Week 2 Have managed to get in 15 minutes on the elliptical the past two mornings and walk Taz for 30 minutes each evening. Tonight's walk was a challenge because we had our first snowfall. Not much snow, just enough to make everything sloppy, so it also became 'bath' might for Miss Taz. emoticon

During week two i made it a point to avoid drive thru windows and walk into establishments, stood in waiting rooms rather than sit, and park farther away from entrances than normal. It added a little more fitness activity.
Lost my spark tracker several months ago and hate that i did not find it when i moved.resources are limited at the moment but would love to be tracking steps etc...
the ten minute challenge has worked well for me. emoticon

I made my commitment to walk my dog everyday, even though I live on a steep hill. So far I've been on track, plus there is a benefit of getting an "incline" workout when coming home!

I misplaced my pedometer. That made it a must for me to purchase the Spark Tracker that everyone has been talking about! I can hardly wait for it to arrive!

I am using my Wii Fit to get minutes. The strength exercises are just the right level of challenge for me right now as I am starting out. Plus, it keeps track of my minutes and calories burned. My goal this week is to add a 10 minute walk around my office building this week.

I suppose getting 10minutes of exercise in reality isn't that hard for me. I don't drive so I at least get it walking to and from work. Plus when I walk across the street to take the mail to the mailbox for work. I do have to take stairs to my apartment since I live on the second floor. I guess where I need to really work on exercise is motivating myself to do more at home in general.

I completed week 2 and starting on week 3 today.

It seems like the most difficult things to do for me is getting those 7-8 hours of sleep and to add strength training to my days...

However, I do well with water intake, 10,000 steps/day and tracking my nutrition. Ice skating is the 'fun' I have added to my routine and I try to go twice a week.

PS: It would be nice to have a skater emoticon, Spark People! emoticon

Yesterday I walked around our property for 12 minutes, and today we went to the fair and walked for about 45 or more minutes. My activity tracker logged 18 minutes of continuous walking.

I have walked to the end of our street to meet the school bus and back. I left 10 minutes earlier so I could walk more while waiting for the bus to arrive. Also, I am wearing a Wii Fit Meter and I am counting my steps. I haven't reached my 10,000 steps today but I am working on it, around the house.

Later on, I want to give a try to that 11 minutes cardio chair workout.

It's been really rainy here and getting colder, so it's not that enjoyable walking to the park. I jogged around my basement for 13 minutes today and then walked briskly around our property for 12 minutes.

Getting in my exercise has been pretty easy, so far. I have a back injury that can put me in bed for days at a time, luckily it has only done that twice since I began this journey and that was because I fell down the stairs (both times)!

I have dogs that I walk with nightly. I generally get 10 - 30 minutes with them every night.

I to grocery shopping 1 - 2 times a week and it takes about an hour.

This week, however, I had my mom come to stay with us and had to do some major cleaning, rearranging, and such.

Most days I love walking, but on days I baby sit the grandchildren I don't have the time for my walks. So .... Tuesdays are gardening days and that is hard work! That leaves a couple other days to get creative. I LOVE news programs, so will use my stationery bike and rowing machine (while catching up on the news) on those days. I can certainly fit in 10 minutes a day on that equipment (don't have to take the time to change clothes, etc.)!

Two creative ways to add activity into my day: I'm not very creative but I try to move as much as possible during my work day. I do upper body stretches and walk to my co-workers' offices to talk to them instead of sending them non official Emails. I walk to and from work and I try to walk to a beat that I have in my head, competing with myself to walk as fast as possible.

I just started using Leslie Sansone's videos. I am really liking them, and am confident that it is something I will stick to. Every morning, I do a full-body stretching routine. I do sets of 25 crunches and/or a plank randomly through the day (commercial break, or if I've just been sitting too long. I've also just tried to be more active in general. On the phone, I'll pace; I'll exaggerate movements while doing housework; etc.

After reading the latest study on the negative effects of being sedentary, I have been setting a timer which reminds me to go hop on the elliptical for 5 minutes every hour. I'm still adjusting to this, so right now I'm averaging about 30 minutes of extra movement per day.

I also joined the 100 day challenge, committing to sun salutations every morning. The plan was to just get in about 10 minutes, but I'm averaging 20.

Reminder to self: Stay in the moment!

I am doing jumping jacks, marching in place, or crunches during commercials (I study with the TV on for background noise). I am also walking 3-5 laps around the halls at school (I am in nursing school). I also wear my SPAT everyday to motivate me.

When I leave the house or come home I go up and down the stairs twice and I park around the corner at the grocery store every day. Walks in the evenings in nice weather and living room walking with the wii if weather is horrible.

Have a great day!

I walk each morning before work. I walk on my breaks (when I get them) and a little on lunch.
Other ways I get more steps in:
-I parker futher away than needed
-I check my mail (which is located in a different area of my office)
-I march in place when I wash my hands in the bathroom, we have private bathrooms at work, I am not sure that I'd do this in a public bathroom...unless I needed more steps. LOL.

I have been leaving the car parked most of this week, and bike everywhere. I have an 18 month old, so she sits in her bike seat, and it adds to the challenge. She loves it, and so do I. I have to plan more time to take the kids around to their activities, but they are all doing it, and the complaining has stopped after a few days!
we even went on an hour long ride as a family yesterday. We were going to go have an ice cream on the way back, but the kids chose to make a loop to a fruit farm to go pick an apple instead!
I also walk more than I used to, and instead of putting things on the first step on the stairs to bring up later, I take the trip up and down everytime.

I've been doing the 10 minutes of exercise each day at work. That way when I get home if I can't fit any exercise in, I've at least hit this goal. What I do is walk up and down the stairs for 3 minutes every 2 hours. In an 8 hour work day I do this 3 to 4 times and that gets me right at the 10 minutes. So far it has also helped me de-stress at work I can get up and get the blood pumping instead of being chained to the desk. The 3 minutes gets my heart pumping, but I don't really get sweaty so it's just right since I have to get back to work. So far I've also been able to do another 30 minutes of cardio in the evenings as well.

Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude. - Thomas Jefferson

For those of you who do kitchen exercises or other ones you make up, are you tracking them on the tracker? If so...how do you calculate the calories? Thanks.

I've been walking an extra block or two when out about town running errands this week, also doing extra flights of stairs whenever I get a chance. Already do many of the things that were suggested such as washing dishes, house cleaning, wearing a pedometer, and parking further from stores. The challenge is going good for me, I've missed just one day in the 2 weeks and that was because I had fallen down and wasn't feeling good the rest of the day. Got right back to it the next day, though.
