Long time account holder with Sparkle....second attempt at trying this site. I'm 41 yrs old and I live in Tacoma WA. I'm the heaviest I have ever been and feel miserable. Needing some guidance and support. I think I can handle 10 min a day to start emoticon

I have to exercise daily. My goal is 20 minutes a day but ten is a good start. I want to start the beginner exercise videos.

I live on an island in Puget Sound. I have raised goldens since 95. I had cockers before that since I was born actually. Zen rolls in anything he can find that makes him look like a black lab with feathers. I put in a wonderful walk in shower that once he is in he stays. He also swims as often as I can get him to the beach house. They are fabulous dogs.
Hiked 75 minutes of the long trail this morning to check the mud situation on the trail we are doing tomorrow. Not bad. Zen and I will be doing that hike without the girl.

Serena,
You've been killing me with the dog stories. My Golden disliked taking a bath. My wife and I would spend considerable amounts of time bathing and grooming him. As soon as he could get away he would jump the wall in our yard into the horseback riding trail, then proceed to roll around in horse dung. Our hearts would sink every time he did that. Never seemed to bother him, though. Oh well.
Do you live in the Pacific Northwest? If so, that is some beautiful country. Wishing you well this weekend with that hike and the weather. I'll be burning some calories on an extended run on Saturday. I'll feel better once it's logged away.
peace,
Robert

I just found this challenge and it is perfect for me! I have never been a regular exerciser, but when I was younger I could fake it at least. I'm way out of shape now! I walked for 28 minutes today. I know I have no excuse to not fit 10 minutes into my day for my health!

I am finding it easier and easier to do the long hikes each morning. Last week I did a couple of hikes to the lake in between the trail hikes and this week I have actually started out to the lake between chores and work but just moved faster and got the long trail hike/run in. Even today in the rain! Sat will be the test. I have that one day off and it's supposed to be the worst day for weather this week. I want to do the 7.5 mile loop on the Metcalf/Saratoga/Putney trails.

I have done this challenge once before and found it helpful making exercise a way of life. But stuff happens and I found myself letting exercise go to the back burner. Now I find myself really missing it. I know this challenge can get me back on track. So here I go again. It will be great.

I agree, 10 minutes is great. It will almost always lead to more but even if I am rushed, 10 is better than nothing!

I am hoping this will help me get started on an exercise plan. Have the hardest time starting. I know I can do this for 4 weeks! It's a 10 minute workout, but I know once I get started I will last longer. It's all about getting me off my computer and hitting the treadmill instead!

Serena,

You make me laugh, as I think back to my very first Golden. His name was Dillon. Dillon was the zaniest pet I ever owned. I recall him ripping several laced-leaf maple plantings out of the ground one spring. Those trees never had a chance. Great pet,...Great dog. Love the Golden Retriever. Anyway, keep up with that busy life. I cannot wait to hike Mount Washington later this spring. The running is getting easier as I am growing bored, which is why I love to skate so much. I get to use muscles in my body that do not get used as much. I always leave the rink with gimpy legs. Talk to you soon.
peace,
Robert

I'm on a new streak, back to SP after 4 years away. These first 10 days have been great, but I want to stay focused and motivated. I've been hitting 10 min a day nearly every day, but want to make it a mindful part of each day. Next week I'll shoot for 20 min each day.

I used to ice skate. No place out here close enough to skate. The hiking is going strong and it's become trail running more then hiking now. Zen feels he should be right next to me on a 18" wide trail but he takes up 8" of it! So today I ran to try and stay ahead of him. He was still trying to push by me on both sides to take his "rightful" place at my knee but I won! Tonight is dance practice and tomorrow night will be another session with the pressure washer

Nice going, Serena!
I am on task with 7.5 mile runs 3 times a week. Plus, 3 workouts on opposite days. I personally look forward to ice skating on my off day. I love to skate! I want to shed some more pounds,...so, still have much work to do. Hope everyone else is meeting their goals as well.
peace,
Robert

My goal is to exercise every day. I have started walking the dog every morning and the path I take has taken me right at 20 minutes the last two mornings. I want to get to the point that I can go further in the same amount of time. I will get there.

I started this challenge to help keep me accountable. This is the only thing working for me, and that fact that I can do it 10-minutes at a time is a big help also.

Hi everyone. I joined this team because I want to exercise more than my 3 days a week at Curves. This will help me start t do more on my "off" days. I may start walking a little outside with my walker with a seat! I need it to walk steadily for longer than just to a car or to the store I discovered I walk easier with the cart in the store so I know I can walk starting at 10 minutes on other days. . I go to Curves on Mon, Wed and Friday and do my 30 minutes. I can even count the walking in the store if I go up and down every isle without actually shopping. I'm set to start. Thanks for just what I needed to get motivated. emoticon emoticon

Into week two. I will continue to hike this week and have added yard work. I want to finish pressure washing--if my arms last-- and finish mowing after work tonight. I then have to start staining house and arbor system. More arm work!

I can't figure out where to set my tracking goals? All I can find is 90 min. a day. I have been doing 20 min. most of the week this week but will have to cut back to 10 as it is causing my leg and back to hurt to the point of taking pain meds. Can anyone help me with the tracking thing?

I am joining this challenge to keep myself accountable and motivated. This is technically week three of joining Sparkpeople, but the first week was a complete bust. Week two was much more successful. I found a virtual buddy, joined more teams, and a challenge. I am going to restart the first challenge to go with this challenge. I have already done a week of working out at least 10 minutes a day, but there is nothing wrong with extra help.

My goals are to:
1. Increase my activity to 30 minutes 6 days a week, I already do 3 times at the gym most weeks, but the days I don't go I don't seem to get enough activity in. I want to loose another 10 lbs and it does not seem to want to go away.

2. Get 10,000 steps on my pedometer 5 days a week.

Just to keep on exercising for at least 10 mins a day. So far I'm on Day 19 of a streak and want to continue, doing more than 10 minutes if I can.

My goals are simple - get up and get moving & keep a bottle of water near me.

A minimum of 10 minutes a day should be do able. I have already completed 1 video this morning and am going in search of another to complete.

Water - refilling 1 liter bottles and keeping full ones in the fridge. Squirting lemon juice in them because personally I don't care for water at all and would much rather have a big glass of ice cold Coke!! I managed to get 3 of those bottles down yesterday without touching the first glass of Coke!

Yay me!!! emoticon

I am in West Greenwich, Serena,...on the western side of the state. However, Rhode Island is so small I consider the whole of it, my home. Newport is beautiful, so is Wakefield, or just about anywhere along the coast. I've run 2 marathons here, along the coast.

Going from doing an hour of exercise every day to nothing is very frustrating to me. But due to a tendon problem in my foot, I find myself starting over after a year's absence.

Does bowling count for this challenge? That's my plan for today.

Keep up the good work everyone!

I have managed to move everyday for 10 days, but today is the first time that I actually did a planned routine. I used the SparkPeople 12 minute seated core video. So my goal is to use the tools available for beginners and hit 10-minutes daily- at a minimum. By the next week I would like to understand the fitness tracker and set up a plan.

Week one day one. Today I started with 6 minutes on the elliptical in the basement. I will increase that each day by 1 minute. emoticon
I will also go outside each day for a minimum of 1/2 hour emoticon or emoticon
Start with 10 minutes off my butt a day and build up from their emoticon

No matter the negative downturns I will use willpower and determination to bypass the negative and walk past Harveys from this day forward until May 2014
Cheers, June T

I've been a member of this group for a long time but just didn't do it. Today I am starting over. I'm frustrated with what I can do right now - last week I had a cardiac episode at the gym and my doctor has said no more gym till we get some tests done. After that we will see what my status is. I hate waiting. I am frustrated with myself because I think I may have waited too long to commit to this healthier lifestyle and now at 50 it may be too late.

I am committing to walking 30 minutes a day - 2 fifteen minute walks, 3 meals a day and 8 hours of sleep.

My goals are to be active at least 15 minutes every day and to cook dinner at home at least 5 evenings a week. I love to cook but when work runs late and I'm tired I've been too quick to pick up takeout on my way home where there aren't a lot of healthy options.

For my challenge I want to drop 3 pounds and keep exercising without hurting my back.
