I've lost 86 pounds and after more than 50 years of being obese, I've learned -- to a large extent due to SparkPeople -- how to eat and move to live at the weight I've wanted to be since I was a teenager! I wake up every morning amazed to see me in the mirror.
While I was losing, I found that treats really helped me reward myself and stay motivated. Sometimes it was a bubble bath, a manicure, a massage, some new make up, or a new smaller outfit. Other times, yummy foods in sensible serving sizes were just what I needed to keep me from feeling deprived and to satisfy those inevitable cravings An extra bonus of enjoying treats along the way was that I entered the maintenance phase already confident that I could handle an occasional treat. Establishing a healthy daily eating routine with lot of fruits and veggies, low fat dairy, a little healthy oil, whole grains, and lean protein, means that on special occasions, an indulgence is not only allowed, but absolutely necessary to enjoy life to the fullest!!
