I deserve a treat because on Jan 1. 2008 I decided at age 53 I was tired of being morbidly obese and started a new diet and exercise plan. I didn't join any support groups, I didn't do weight watchers or Jenny Craig--I made the plans and stuck to it. By Feb. 2009 I weighed 120 pounds, having lost 137 pounds in 13 months. I DID have the support of my husband and my best friend and that was invaluable. But it was my determination to lose the weight even though the cards were stacked against me--being a middle aged female who had been obese most of her adult life. It is now the 4th year of my plan and I eat lots of fruits and veggies, and do one hour of cardio 7 days a week along with one hour of strength training 3 times a week. It is time consuming but I've made it a priority in my life. That's why more than 2 years after reaching my goal weight, I maintain a weight of between 117 and 125 pounds.
