So I was asked to put this here, and I just want to say that I did not come up with these, I just started drinking them to boost my iron, for more information on their creation and for a HUGE variety of recipes please go to "greenmonstermovement.com".
The basic Green Monster is as follows (and I KNOW it sounds gross but it's actually quite yummy!!)
1 tbsp flaxseed
2 c spinach (raw or cooked)
1 c milk (soy, almond, cow, whatever)
Put all items into the blender in the order listed so that the heavier items hold down the lighter ones. Blend on high until liquified, add in 6 or so ice cubes and blend on the ice level until crushed. Put in a pretty glass and drink!
This comes to an average of about 300 calories as the basic one... you can add any fruit you like, or I've seen people add carrots... swap out the spinach with kale... there's SO much variation you can do with these. The spinach has such a mild flavour that you don't even taste it, it's all banana!!
I cook my spinach (I put it in a bowl with a tbsp of water, cover the bowl with a plate and nuke it for 45 seconds) because I have an iron issue, and by cooking it, it releases some of the minerals and such and makes the iron and vitamins easier for your body to absorb.
