They are my favorites too. I throw what ever fruit I have in mine, usually a banana and then berries. I like the frozen ones actually cause you don't have to add ice to it. I didn't have one today and I'm exhausted. Try kale it is one day..it's alittle stronger then the spinach, but still really good!!! Welcome to the team!!!

I am new to Green Monsters. I've been making them since Monday and I'm in love ! I love the energy and the way my body feels "cleaner".

I have been making mine with fruit, almond milk, flax, and spinach. LOVE THEM !!! The possibilities are endless.. Love this forum! :)

Tried kale in mine this week too. It is stronger then the spinach. But still good. Made it alittle thicker too. But I was out of all my stuff today so no drink, only oatmeal!!

I need to get back into my Green Monsters, these last two weeks have been horrible for my eating and habits.

I never thought of making a more savoury version, the greek yogurt and V8 splash sounds awesome! You should send that into Angela at the Green Monster website!

I would imagine using a sweetened protein powder would be too much. I read the labels and get the plain ones. It's amazing how much sugar(!) is in some of them.

I finally made my first green monster Sat with kale, banana, and vanilla protein powder. It was a little sweet so I'm going to try unsweetened greek yogurt vs protein powder next time.

I had a lot of energy that day. In fact, now that I think of it, that was the day I ran the 5K outside and did pushups. Connection?? Probably!

I tried the green monster and I had to tweak. I don't care for milk so I use greek yogurt instead and a little V-8 splash.

OMG, green smoothies are the secret to life!!! (Just kidding), but they're almost that good...

Here's what I had today after my workout:

1 LARGE handful kale leaves (mine are homegrown so they are nice and tender, but any organic ones will do)

1 cup frozen blueberries

1 small banana

2 T. Protein powder

water to blend.

Buzz in blender and enjoy. This is a meal-in-a-glass!! And about 3-4 servings of fruits and veggies (maybe more).

Google green smoothies and learn all about them. They are infinitely adjustable depending on what's in season and what you have at home.

My friend Victoria Boutenko of Ashland, Oregon is a world authority on raw foods and green smoothies. you can look her up online and she also has videos on YouTube showing how to make them...

LOL, I'll get off my soapbox now... It's great to have a team of our own!!

Peace,

So I was asked to put this here, and I just want to say that I did not come up with these, I just started drinking them to boost my iron, for more information on their creation and for a HUGE variety of recipes please go to "greenmonstermovement.com".

The basic Green Monster is as follows (and I KNOW it sounds gross but it's actually quite yummy!!)

1 tbsp flaxseed
2 c spinach (raw or cooked)
1 banana
1 c milk (soy, almond, cow, whatever)

Put all items into the blender in the order listed so that the heavier items hold down the lighter ones. Blend on high until liquified, add in 6 or so ice cubes and blend on the ice level until crushed. Put in a pretty glass and drink!

This comes to an average of about 300 calories as the basic one... you can add any fruit you like, or I've seen people add carrots... swap out the spinach with kale... there's SO much variation you can do with these. The spinach has such a mild flavour that you don't even taste it, it's all banana!!

I cook my spinach (I put it in a bowl with a tbsp of water, cover the bowl with a plate and nuke it for 45 seconds) because I have an iron issue, and by cooking it, it releases some of the minerals and such and makes the iron and vitamins easier for your body to absorb.
