I really like the TV show, "Till Debt Do Us Part" www.gailvazoxlade.com/ its very helpful, lots of tools for calculating and putting yourself on a budget that you can live with. I've implemented that, am debt free, bought property and am saving to build bit by bit with cash. Not bad, since we were on welfare at one point, and had unsurmountable debts.

I do not have a spending plan but I want to work on getting one right away. Does anyone have a plan or a website that would guide me through this? I am 61 and my husband left us a few years ago. My daughters are married now and I now need to make plans to take care of myself for the future.

We have 4 sources of income DH's Annuity, my SS check, the money we make in our business and money that our son's pay me for room and board. Generally the income from the business and annuity go for bills with 10% set aside in savings for gotcha expenses. My SS check is used for paying off debt, these are monthly budgets. The cash I get from the DS's is on a weekly budget using the envelope system and is used for groceries, medicine, personal expenses, gas etc. I am a fan of Dave Ramsey.

No I don't but I did at one time and I am a firm believer in it. I have been budgeting this way for 20 years and can use checks and even pay a few bills online and still keep up just fine. I always liked the envelope system. It is so nice to have your budgeted money in each envelope. That was how I started. If ya'll haven't already checked out Dave Ramsey you just have to. :)

That sounds really good. I've been budgeting monthly, but I might try weekly. Maybe it would help me stay on track better. Are you using a cash only system?

I do have a spending plan. I budget weekly. Each week the same amount of money is taken out of payroll check for the bills. If there is some left over from paying those bills that week that amount is saved for later weeks where more money is needed than what I budgeted. Although many weeks have came when I needed more money for the electric or something and that money had to come out of the food money or entertainment or worked out in some way. I was raised that entertainment came before bills so since I became an adult 20 something years ago :) I have always lived that the bills came before anything else. I think a budget is the best way to accomplish that.
