Hey, Defiant1 made Turtle Moonie award history for earning his long-sleeved T-shirt (over 100 miles) before his regular T-shirt for over 5 mileage reports! He picks that one up today!

emoticon Defiant1

And that's the only pre-defined Moonie award this week!

I figure it's time to introduce a new level-award Moonie: over 500 miles. Our first recipients are -

emoticon Andi571 (see, Defiant1 has some catching up to do!)
emoticon LJCannon (our fearless leader)!
emoticon OneKidsMom (that couch to 5K is building miles)
emoticon Rej7777

Who will top 500 miles next? Tune in to find out... probably in a couple of weeks, as I probably won't be doing totals until then! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

KShaggy, all you have to do is report your miles, minutes or activity in the "Report your total miles here" thread, and you're a part of the journey. Most of us post every week, some less, some more frequently.

Speaking of which, I have a new virtual T-Shirts to hand out:

For over five times reporting miles or steps or minutes:

A long-sleeved t-shirt for over 100 miles, goes to:

Pat, strength training can count, too! If you're raising your heart rate (and most of us do when lifting!), and if you're raising it enough it counts as "vigorous"... it can be converted to steps, and thus to miles.

Think of your strength training as kind of like pulling oars on a boat to the moon! emoticon emoticon

Well, Kasey, I've been doing something every day. I like weight training the best. I know I need to get some cardio in (or I'll never make it to the moon), but this is the part that's hard for me. I don't sit around. I am on the move 5 days out of 7. Most of the time I forget my pedometer, but try to "guesstimate."

Pat, there's nothing that says you can't do different exercises, pretty much all the time if you want. If you do zumba for a while, then get tired of it, change to pilates. If you get bored with that, try a strength-training program... swimming... jogging... jumping rope... riding a bike... whatever strikes your fancy. If your goal is a marathon or to play a certain sport, then you would need to follow a training schedule, but if all you're after is better health and increased fitness, I don't think it matters WHAT you do so long as you move every day and get your heart-rate up for a period of time. After that, why not shake it up? :-D

Thanks for sharing, Jeannie. Our eveings are still in the upper 80s and humid. I might try walking in few months. However, next Wednesday, I'm going to try a Zumba class. This might be fun. One of the big problems with exercising (for me) is that it's boring.

emoticon I used to HATE exercise too, Pat. But after you do it for awhile, it starts to grow on you. Now I can't imagine NOT going out for my walk every evening. Just start slow and take short walks. All the steps add up more quickly than you think.

New, starting now, Announcing: The Moonie Awards

Moving our turtle shells to the moon is pretty great all by itself. But what about all the individual turtle efforts that lead to that team total?

So starting now, here's our team list.

First a great big "Turtle to the Moon Participant" award goes out to each new turtle that joins the fray. To be fair, I have to be retroactive, so here's the list of all the Moon-chasing turtles who have so far posted activity. Newcomers will be welcomed in the reporting period they first post activity!

emoticon From here on in, you can nominate another turtle for a "Moonie Award" for whatever reason: "most consistent" - "most miles this reporting period" - "Most creative activity reported" - really, the sky... um, the moon? is the limit!

I'll kick things off by nominating The First Special Moonie Award to:
