- Cardigan Welsh Corgis. Hands down. I adore corgis.
- Pembrokes are a close second.
- German Shepherd Dog. If you want a multitalented, brilliant, devoted, intense dog, I don't think they can be beaten. i admire them so much.
- Bully breeds -- I've seen so many that have gone through so much and come out great dogs.
- Border Collies I admire for their sheer cognitive ability. I love watching someone work in sync with a Border. I hope I can be that good with dogs one day.

We love pekingese and labradors. We have 2 pekes and 1 black lab. We've had our pekes, Duke and Duchess for 6 years. They are the most awesome laid back furbabies. Weove had Samson, our black lab for a little over 2 weeks.

Sam is an outside dog. Our home is his 3rd one in 2 years. He is doing really well so far, needs some training but a beautiful big boy.

Duke and Duchess were rescued from the pound and they picked me. I work full time and don't have to worry if my house is torn up when I come home. Perfect little angels.

I would have to say Bluetick Coonhounds. They are so sweet and loving!!! They may have an image of being a lazy old hound dog that you see laying on a front porch thumping their tail at visitors. They are laying on the porch because they are tired from hunting ALL night long! High energy level- can run for miles and miles! They are super intelligent problem solvers--it takes quite a brain to trail raccoons! OH! Did I mention they are LOUD!!! You can hear their melodic baying for miles.

I would have to say it's a three way tie between shar pei's, corgis, and great danes!
I love everything about the shar pei, the adorable wrinkles and large noses, the sweet attitude! But then there are the playful, loving, and stubby little legs corgis that are just too cute (I favor both Pembroke, and Cardigan). But also the giant not-so gentle love of great danes.

German Shepherds are my favorite. I've had six over the years (including my current dog). Just something about their breed traits and my personality seem to mix well.

Hello All

Lets see I have a 14 year old corgi shiatsu mix that I love to death and he is my best buddy and keeps me going on down days. Days I dont want to get out of bed his eyes begging for a walk will make me. However about 3 years ago my daughter was given a Pom and I have been a fan ever since. We lost little bear last winter and now have a new little girl named bella that is rotten and very spoiled and loved to death. I think I will always own a Pom now.

I emoticon Leonbergers (I'd love for my next dog to be a Leo!), Dobermans, Malamutes, and pretty much any mix with Rottie: I've never met a rottie mix that wasn't a sweetheart!

I'm also partial to Pyrs, German Shepherds, and pretty much anything that I don't have to lean over to pet (I'm 5'2, so anything I have to lean over for is pretty darned small!)

Spinoni Italiano and Great Pyrenees

Currently we have 2 Spins; 1 is 8 months and the other 3 months.
We lost our two Pyrs just over 2 years ago; both to cancer.

My dog is a Bichon/Poodle mix. He has the sweetest face and a disposition to match. I have fallen in love with the Bichon Frise breed. I love all dogs, but the bichon has won my heart. I would never buy one from a breeder however. Shelter/Rescue dogs are the best, in my opinion! My Parker has renal failure. I adopted him anyway, knowing that our time together was in God's hands. I have had him 2 years and the vet said his time is getting short. Someone forgot to tell Parker that! He is happy and as playful as a normal healthy dog! We are constant companions and I love him to death!

I wanted to thank everyone for their kind words and helpful notes. My Joy, the Shiba Inu, was a rescue dog as well. I rescued her when she was 10 and I will have her 5 years in December. She looks great and no one believes how old she is. My last dog was a rescue Norwegian Elkhound who was around 6 when I rescued him. He was the most lovable dog I ever had. Rescues are great. The older ones are usually well trained and so happy to have a new loving home.
I would love to post a picture of her but can't figure out how. Any help?

I have a female red Shiba Inu now and love her. I had two Norwegian Elkhounds before her, a male and a female and loved them both. I have had dogs all my life and love them all. My Shiba and one of my Elkhounds were rescue dogs. My Shiba I rescued at 10 and will have her 5 years in December. One Elkhound my daughter bought as a puppy and the second Elkhound came as a 6 year old rescue dog. I would always get rescue dogs. The two I've had came very well trained and loved their new home.

I LOVE ALL DOGS!!! and Animals, Birds, Fish.etc
emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've had the pleasure of being born into my family w/a small, crazy smooth, short haired terrier. I had a wonderful Lab/Husky dog 100lbs that I grew up with, and found on the street when I was 5. I had no fear. He was so calm, loving, patient dog I've ever known. I will miss him forever. I hope to see all my past dogs when I pass on and be reunited. I just led him to the door and all agreed he could stay the next day.
emoticon
I have a american yellow lab, who is so sweet and happy and I have a crazy, anxious but loving when she wants to be some kind of hound we wee told at the PSPCA. Red boned coonhound mix. She can look exactly like a ridgeback, vizla...and a sausage!
emoticon
I had 2 other labs, a black mix , who was my first dog when I moved out of my parents house. She was wonderful. I had a chocolate lab, a golden retriever, english springer spaniel, long haired dachound and quite a few cats as well. My cat now, who is 13 thinks she's a dog.
emoticon emoticon
I agree, it doesn't matter what breed they are, as long as you are a loving, caring, and give your pet the proper exercise and health needs they need, your dog will love you UNCONDITIONALLY. emoticon
Besides the dogs I owned, my family had german shepards, dachouns (all types) carin terrier's , mixed (the best kind to have health wise, that is for sure!) emoticon emoticon emoticon

I want a british bulldog next, I'd love a great dane., pitbull, they are so loving, sweet and protective. They get such a bad rap because of ppl.

I prefer big dogs but I love them all. I don't care if they're full bred or not. I'm just thankful to have had them and have them now. emoticon emoticon emoticon

They are better than most of the ppl I know and if you can come back in a new life after you die, I want to be a dog! Not a human! We're too evil and destructive! Not all but many! emoticon

You are so right Maxie56. It really doesn't matter what kind of dog you have if you love it and it loves you in return. Some of the sweetest most loving dogs are ones that people have just "thrown away" and end up in the shelters.
There is nothing like the unconditional love of a dog, regardless of its breed. emoticon

A big Heinz 57 will go just fine with me, our chocolate Lab is a pure breed but it would not matter if he had several breeds in him, we also have a Lab/Husky mix and a boder collie mix, we love them all

Hello all,
Fortymile, seems we have some things in common. I love the larger breeds of dogs too.
My most favorite has always been the German Shepherd and Siberian Husky.
Lucky me, I have the best of both breeds, a beautiful Husky/Shepherd named GIN-GIN. She has the beautiful coloring of the husky and the build and eyes (brown) of the shepherd. I have been blessed to have her for 6 years and hope to have many, many more.

I really love my yellow lab Charley, he is the second yellow lab we have owned. I always have wanted a german shepherd pup, maybe someday I will have one. I really prefer the medium to large dogs.

I am an animal lover ....if I could, I'd live on a good sized property where I'd have a pet rabbit, a goat, a few dogs, a couple of cats, a horse or 2 .....

However, when it comes to dogs, I used to be scared to death of toys or miniatures ... now I'm just uncomfortable around them. Frankly, the tiny breeds seem to be so "yippy & nippy" that they annoy me.

I have been around a few exceptions but I'm pretty sure that had to do with the owner properly training & socializing them.

I LOVE THEM ALL!!! Seriously! I have owned or been around so many different types/sizes/breeds of dogs and I definitely agree that to me it is all about the personality over anything else. It it's canine, it's my kinda breed. emoticon emoticon

Although it might be argued that my favorite breed is the Great Pyrenees (having owned 2 of them back to back), I really don't have a favorite breed so much as a favorite *type* .... which is:

1) really big (2) long or medium length fur (3) guardian (but not aggressive) ...altho Newfs aren't guardians, they still fall w/in my "fave" type of dog

I'm partial to larger dogs. I've always loved the German Shepherd. I have a Husky/Shepherd mix. She is very smart, loving and protective. She stays inside with me most of the time. She has only one fault. She sheds something terrible. That's ok. She's my big baby.

RIght now would have to be the German Shepherd. I have really learned to appreciate their strength, agility, speed, and intelligence. I mean how many other dogs can you potty train in 3 days? I also have a Pom, and she has been the greatest cuddle buddy ever

I love my Irish Wolfhounds. Have also had West highland terriers and Siberian Huskies.
When we downsize in the next year or so, we're going to get Basenji hounds.

My favorite would probably be a toss up between my miniature Schnauzers and the Yorkie I have now.
I've had mixed breed, miniature "weenie", Dalmatian, Sheltie, Black Lab, two Miniature Schnauzers and a little Yorkie. I loved them all.

My Black Lab was a lot of fun especially for the kids. She loved playing ball and was excellent with the kids when they were young. Nicest, friendly dog.
My Sheltie was a sweet little dog who hid in the bedroom for three days because she was mad when we added the Lab. They became best friends though. Horrible loss to coyotes!
My two miniature Schnauzers were the funniest personality wise. One "talked" all the time. They were so cute together.
I now have the little Yorkie Leila. She was my daughters but when my daughter had a baby and he started crawling Leila and Noah didn't get a long too well. She's little and bonds to one or two people the most. Now it's me and my husband so I think we'll be keeping her.

We didn't plan on ever getting another dog because it was just too hard losing my little Schnauzers but Leila was already in our hearts before she made the move from my daughters to us.

Sorry so long, I think about all of them and miss them a lot. emoticon

Do I have to pick just one??

For me, it all depends upon temperament. I've had purebred dalmatians and dachsunds as well as a variety of mixes. Each has had their strengths (and weaknesses - Bruno, the dachsund used to chase airplanes!). All were and are deeply loved.

Aussies and German Shepherds, oh wait, standard poodles are fun too. But my all time fav are Aussies...I always end up with one. My current aussie is a part rescue, my daughter's aussie I rescued and retrained and she is a lovey now. Most of my dogs have been rescues and have all been wonderful dogs.

In the quiet light of the stable, you hear a muffled snort, the stamp of a hoof, a friendly nicker. Gentle eyes inquire, "How was your day old friend?" and suddenly, all your troubles fade away.

Our family adopted a male Bichon Frise when I was thirteen and that sweet boy helped me hang on to my sanity in a very unhappy emotional environment. He was the sole male being among four females and we all doted on him and spoiled him rotten. I would recommend the Bichon breed to almost anyone. However my present dog Stacey Ann is a Shepherd/Corgi mix I adopted as my birthday present eleven years ago. She is nothing short of wonderful, one of my life's bigger blessings and I wouldn't trade her in for all the tea in China. Sometimes I wonder, did I rescue her or did she rescue me?

I've had rescue puppies until this last one. Most were excellent dogs, only had one that pulled his stake out; then went after farm turkeys and was shot by the farmer.

My little spaniel, KC. was the easiest to train and is perfect for our house.

Absolutely the best dog breed is the Rottweiler. I have had 3 rescue Rotties and they have all been gentle, loyal and sweet. We live on a farm and they don't wander, they dont bother the cats and they have a heart of gold. :D
