Happy Friday All, I used to hate anything related to exercise. Now I go to the workout room in my complex 3 days a week and use the treadmill. I tried the elipitcal but I don't have the stamina for it yet but I'm working up to that. I'm sleeping better and feeling better. What's not to love! emoticon

I have two - first and foremost is working out on Charlie, my cardio twister. Exercises all those 'bits' of me that are in need of firming up without putting too much strain on my knees. Next is walking, either taking the dogs for a walk or walking to see Dad in the nursing home or maybe a walk to or with a friend - time just passes so quickly I don't even realise I'm exercising.

I enjoy walking and hiking. It doesn't even feel like exercise, I'm just having fun!

Walking, walking and more walking. Without it, I find my back weakens and can give out on me, but I also like to get out there and see nature as the reasons change. Iy's free, too - which has to be good.

I love to walk. In fact, I love outdoor exercise. I do like the elliptical and yoga (I have even learned to like strength training). Walking is the best, however. Kay

I love walking because it's simple and doesn't require equipment (other than good shoes). As far as music or no music, if I walk with a friend, chit-chat. If I walk alone, it's usually on the treadmill with a book or t.v. I haven't really walked by myself outside in a long time. This will be the year.

emoticonIf I had to pick ONE exercise, I guess it would be Walking, partly because I COULDN'T walk for so long. I can remember how it felt to sit in my chair and WISH that I could go for a walk in the early evening when the weather was nice.
emoticonI am relieved that I am not the only one who doesn't like to wear a IPOD or headphones while I am walking. I like to hear the nature sounds around me, plus I think I am more aware of what/who is around me without headphones.

April, 2004 I decided I wanted to learn to knit. So I got some yarn and needles and then 3 days later I was in a car accident. So I spent about 3 months with my knee up and my hands and mind learning to knit. When I was better, the knitting had me and I couldn't quit! It's great to do something while watching TV or visiting or riding in the car. I even take it shopping! Anyway if you wanted to learn to knit, I hope you wouldn't have to go through a car accident to learn!

I love to go for a walk! I haven't been walking lately, but it is still one of my very favorite things to do. I enjoy putting my knitting in a bag or back pack and knitting as I go. The faster I walk the faster knit. Love it!

I agree also, I love going to the park where I live and walk on the nature trails. I don't wear headphones, or listen to the radio. They have two ponds there and I enjoy listening to the ducks, geese, and birds. I also love to smell the sweet smell of the flowers in the spring. My granddaughter's first words were "see bird." I would take her when she was little and walk with her in the stroller. Every time we saw any kind of bird I would point to it and say "Hallie, see bird!" She always got so exited! It's instant stress relief!emoticonemoticonemoticon

Walking outside in the evening when it is warm is my favorite. I don't like wearing headphones or anything. I like hearing the cars, people talking, dogs barking etc. I don't feel like it is exercise that way.

I really don't like exercise, but go to Curves. I never want to go, but feel good afterwards! I make myself go! Then I do stationary bicycle the other days.

Actually, I couldn't decide which was my favorite and I love going to Curves! I love feellng strong, since I am 70, and live in my house with 3 cats and no other humans........

Thanks for bringing up weight training, Sunny! I completely left out that I make sure to get at least 2 or 3 strengthening workouts in a week. But we were asked for our favorites, and that is more of a chore to me. emoticon I don't like doing it, but I sure like its results.

Walking on the treadmill or outside is my favorite. Every summer my friend and I spend an afternoon in her pool. We mainly get wet a little, pick out oak leaves from her pool, float and drink ice tea, all the time with our sun glasses and sun hat on. This summer I plan to actually swim, even if it means taking off my sun hat and glasses and getting my hair wet!

I guess I have always been a walker and (1)I continue to do that outside,even sometimes in the winter! (2)Sometimes I walk indoors on my treadmill. (3) I got a bike last summer and I will be using that when it is too hot to walk! (4) I joined Curves in Jan of 2009 and I am still going regularly. I joined Curves because my Medicare Advantage Plan had a Silver Sneakers program that offered Curves FREE as long as I went at least 12 times a month. Being cheap, er, frugal I forced myself to go regularly and I love it. I have met so many wonderful women there. This year, I had to change Advantage plans due to high cost, the new one only refunds $20 of the cost per month, but I'm hooked and it is still worth it!

By the way, for the remainder of March, Curves is offering free registration with a donation of a bag of groceries for the local food shelf! A savings of $100.

Doing just cardio doesn't help with weight loss unless combined with strength training, at least that is what SparkPeople says! That is how I lost almost 30lbs last year. In the middle of May, I will begin working on the last 30lbs I want to loose.

I bought a GoWearFit last June and by knowing the actual amt of calories I burn every day made it easier to eat the correct amount of food to loose weight regularly..............

Before SP I didn't think I liked exercise, but how could I know when I never exercised! It did take me a while to get started and to track what I'm doing, but now I love it (not the tracking part so much). I enjoy being physical and feeling good - must be those endorphins at work!

I find my favorite activities of the moment are walking (treadmill, outside at lunch, Leslie Sansone DVD's) and I actually enjoy the strength training I'm doing with small weights. It feels good to feel good.

Thanx, Jeannie - I want to do the equivalent of a 'walk-run' eventually, where you do the really fast speed-walking - no running, just fast walking, which I think my knee would accommodate! :-)

There are some Curves not too far from me - I don't drive here, so that can make it difficult. Mostly, tho, it's the cost - neither of them posts the amount on their websites. I have an email in to one of them to see what they say.

Meanwhile, hi-ho, it's walking I go--!

Kasey, I am totally impressed!! Your 'bursts' are definitely interval training. And you are Speedy!!

Barb, I can't wait until I get the opportunity to do water aerobics again. I did it YEARS ago, but I haven't been in the pool in longer than I can remember. There is not one anywhere real close, but I believe there is one--with classes--in the next town over (about 8 miles away).

I think I have always enjoyed moving my body, but it was not encouraged or prized in the family of my birth to be "athletic". In fact, it was somewhat scorned. So, intended by my parents or not, I learned to be less active! Minds, on the other hand, were prized, and I developed that!

Most times that I have "worked on" my weight issues, I have stressed the importance of exercise, because I know eating less alone won't do the trick for me. And once a little bit of fitness kicks in, I truly do become a bit of an exercise addict. Have to have my "fix", have to keep moving.

My go-to exercise is simple "walking"... outdoors, laps in the basement at work in bad weather, on the treadmill in front of the TV at home, with the dog, whatever. But I also love to mix it up, get some variety in: active outings like skating, or biking or swimming. Anything to move under my own power.

Swimming emoticon is a special treat, almost a mix of exercise with massage. I swim slow, relaxing laps of side stroke, breast stroke, and a slow crawl, front and back.

I walk. Every day, formally, usually on a treadmill (where I can 'set' the pace and incline) and always with a pedometer. I started with 10 minutes / day, maybe 2 miles per hour, with 0% incline. After three months (started just at the end of December) I now usually do 30 minutes / day, with 'bursts' of up to 3-1/4 mph and 10% incline. (I suppose the bursts are like 'interval training,' but I've worked my way up to a daily burst of a kilometer - over half-a-mile - in just under 12 minutes!)

I also do stretching exercises, a bit of yoga, a little with weights (dumbbells), and I try to do the WiiFit for a minimum of 20 minutes / day. But no matter what else I do or don't do, I WALK. ;-)

p.s. But I don't especially like 'exercise,' so while I'm walking, I'm listening to books-on-tape. The time flies by, and I'm rewarding myself during my commitment / goal instead of after, lol...

That sounds like great exercise. Sounds like a good way to exercise all of your body parts from your hands on down! I think my favorite exercise is swimming. It just seems to relax me and relieve all sorts of stress. I also love to walk and ride my bike. I never use to get off the couch before I found SP. I actually crave exercise and hate it when my work schedule is so bad I can't schedule it in.

This one is actually new to me, but I have found that if I combine music and dancing and something else like making bread or juice it keeps my mind and hands busy!!! Works great! I actually work up a sweat and end up with a batch of bread or some carrot and celery juice in just 30 minutes! Tons of fun! Dancing around my center island counter with some great music and something to do!

There are so many of us who either hate exercise, or used to hate it. I have come to believe that without some regular exercise/activity we will NEVER control our weight.

There is an endless list of choices of exercise we can choose from. Even chair exercises and walking in home videos.
