I felt the same way -- but now I'm very anxious to see Hicks in action. Though I hate to say it, I think it was a good move.

I'd like to have seen Butera right here all season....but he's going to get a lot more playing time in Rochester. If we do see him come back up this season, it'll probably mean that Mauer is injured, so I'm not going to hope that.

Just a few more days now..... emoticon

Drew hit a couple of homeruns and a few timely hits this spring. Hopefully we'll see him back during the season.

I'm looking forward to seeing Aaron Hicks in centerfield! I was afraid I would loath Ben and Denard's replacement because I liked the two of them so much.

All right Sharon, you are rocking it!
I will definitely look into the Fitbit, though I've been spending money hand over fist lately, so I may have to check the finances first. emoticon

As a former catcher myself (a long LONG time ago), I really appreciate Drew Butera's ability behind the plate. If only he could hit....

I saw a comment on a blog that Butera's probably needed in AAA to help teach the up and coming young pitchers. I like to think that's the case. :-)

Sometimes it's like that, Carren. I think it was a great challenge -- I know I did really well, raising my average step count to over 11,000 per day. (I still gotta say, it's thanks to my fitbit. Really. Get one!) But I didn't change it up much, so I guess I'm not a complete success either.

I'll be up for any new challenge you come up with!

So bummed to hear about Drew Butera today. emoticon

I'm a Thome fan too. When he left it was a sad day....and I think you are right about his presence in the clubhouse. But if he holds out for the contract he wants, I don't know if the Twins could risk it. I'm interested in seeing how this one plays out.

Anna, it's so true about sneaking in steps at the end of the day. I sometimes ask myself "who ARE you?" The Fitbit really is the most amazing tool.....

I would love to see Thome back in the lineup if the Twins can afford to carry a guy who only DHs. His demeanor and presence in the clubhouse would surely set an example for the young guys and if he has any pop in his bat left . . . .

I know what you mean, Sharon! I'm finding any excuse to squeeze in a few more steps. If I'm waiting for anything--dogs, food in the oven, etc.--I'll take that time to walk back and forth or side to side. And then if I want to reach a milestone at the end of the day, I will walk around the dining and living room area while watching my evening TV.

I'm on the fence about Thome - he was amazing in 2010 for the Twins, but he was hurt quite a bit last year. If he's willing to take a low base/high incentive contract, why not?

I heard that about Brian Dozier too. Love to hear about those kind of break-through games!

What do you guys think of the Thome rumors? Anything to them? Would that be a good thing? I love Jim Thome...but he's a pretty big risk.

I can't even imagine being addicted to exercise - I know I used to walk a lot more than I do now. emoticon

Anya - I've heard that stairs don't always register well on pedometers, so maybe you got more steps that you recorded. Even if you didn't, 52 floors sounds like an accomplishment to me!

I finally reached my 6,00 step goal on Sunday. Working a concert when I had to run all over campus certainly helped. The down side - I got home at 6:30 p.m. and put on my pajamas!

Brian Dozier had a good game today - 5 double plays! Maybe 2nd is his position after all.

I saw the snow reports from MN today. NJ is supposed to get some combination of rain/sleet/snow tomorrow, but I'm guessing it will be primarily rain. Dreary, but safer than snow or freezing rain.

Have a good night!

My Fitbit Zip doesn't count floors, so I'm more able to concentrate my time on steps -- that could be one reason. Also, that little bugger is addictive! When I first got it, I was happy getting 5000 steps. Even 3000 was acceptable. I don't know what's got into me, but it's all good! Now I don't feel "right" unless I have 10000+.

We did get nearly a foot of snow overnight, but it looks like it's done now. Not sure....it was supposed to go on until late this afternoon, but I'm ok with it. Good thing it's warming up in a few days....opening day at Target Field is fast approaching!

I'm happy with the Spring Training reslts so far....what do you guys think?

I maintained my daily average of steps last week. Yesterday I needed to tackle Mt. Washmore, so I knew I'd be doing lots of floors whilst doing laundry, so I decided to go for the 50 Floor Badge. I did it! I actually ended up with 52 floors. Sad thing is, I only got 5,000 steps after all that.

Sharon, no matter how well I do in a day, your totals are always double what mine are! emoticon It's really motivating trying to catch you!

How's it going, Carren?

Way to go ladies!!!

I'm embarrassed to admit that I failed miserably last week, and not doing much better this week.

However, I'm finishing up my post and going to find a nice, low impact workout on the site to do tonight.

Keep up the great work - you're my inspiration!

I've raised my daily average by 1,000 steps and had my first 10,000 step day since getting a fitbit! My mini goal is to have at least 5,000 steps a day and to have more days in the 7-8,000 range.

I haven't matched or beaten my 7,000 step day of a few days ago. BUT, I have gotten at least 5,000 steps a day so that should raise my daily average and weekly total.

Snow tonight. emoticon I have to push the snow off the driveway to a place where I can dump it, so tomorrow, I should get lots of steps.

I saw the wind chills in MN were in the -30 to -40 range yesterday. I can't say I miss that!

I fell short again yesterday, and got home later than I planned, so I didn't get in a walk, either. emoticon I really need to get to the gym tonight - or at least run up and down my stairs a little!

I find that shopping usually gets me a lot more steps than doing housework does, even though it's not nearly as hard. It's so cold today....I had planned grocery shopping but might put it off. I worked out for an hour this morning -- all cardio, so I have over 6,000 steps so far. I'll have to find something to replace the shopping steps if I wimp out!

Way to go, Anna!

I fell pretty short yesterday - only 3,300 steps; I was a bit surprised, since I did wander around Target for almost an hour. I usually have more steps after that.

Think I'm going to walk up to the bank this afternoon - that should give me 3,000 steps right there, then go for a walk when I get home.

I have the Fitbit One and I love it! I'll check it throughout the day to see where I'm at. At the end of the day, if I'm anywhere near a badge or a round number, I will walk or climb until I reach it. Any interest in being *friends* on the Fitbit webpage? Sharon, I'm sure you'd knock me out of that 1st place spot! I might like to try to catch you! I'll message you my email if you're interested.

I love having two sets of stairs in our new house! I've really noticed how much more toned my calves are! Our neighborhood is also a bit hilly, so when we walk the dogs we actually accumulate alot of floors climbed too.

Carren, my everyday steps are also around 4,000, unless I have shopping or other errands to do. But one hour of wlaking briskly on the treadmill, at the mall, a 'Walk Away the Pounds' DVD, or on the Wii Fit board adds 6,000 steps, which is how I get my 10,000 most days. At least until spring. The Fitbit really keeps me honest. I'm not saying I get my 10,000 EVERY day, but I won't let myself go to bed if I haven't either got the steps or my hour in. I never would have said that pre-fitbit!

So, I'm going to confess that I've really fallen off the fitness wagon. I've been averaging 4,000 'everyday' steps a day, and not really doing anything else.

So, my first week's goal is to up the 'everyday' steps to 6,000 as well as get in a mile of 'focused' steps (as in, actually walking at a maintained pace and duration.)

emoticon Here I am, reporting for Spring Training!

I typically do between 3,000 -6,000 steps a day on my Fitbit. My best day so far was 8,000 steps. I can almost see that 10,000 step badge! I also climb between 15 - 25 floors a day.

For this spring training, let's join our Twins by 'stretching out' our conditioning. Just as a pitcher needs to build up endurance and innings during spring training, we need to keep increasing our fitness efforts. emoticon

Here's the challenge - take a good, honest look at your current fitness activities, then plan how you can build on them each week for the six weeks of spring training. Here's some examples:
- Duration = Make your daily walk a little longer, or spend a few more minutes at the gym. emoticon
- Exertion = Aim for a faster mile, increase the amount of weight for strength training emoticon
- Variety = Try something new! emoticon
Everyone's different, so everyone's goal will be different. The important thing is PROGRESS!

Share your success and struggles here! PLAY BALL! emoticon
