When the majority of the homes had large, front porches and people had time to sit on them in the evening and talk about their day and how they felt and what they wanted to do the next day, and watch their children and grandchildren play before bedtime.

Being safe walking to school by myself, which was a mile away. Both day and evening time for after-school activities. I feel bad for kids now, they don't have the same type of innocence and sense of security that we had.

I remember the old Five and Dime Stores, and ones like Woolworth that seemed to have a little bit of everything and was ideal for anyone's budget. They most always had a soda counter in the store with great fountain drinks, floats, and sundaes and a grill that made the tastiest of sandwiches. Those were the days my friends.

I remember a small hand-held plastic game in the shape of a square that had nine or twelve smaller squares inside that you had to move around individually to put a pic together or numbers in order. You slide them around until they matched whatever was on them. There was one square that was blank so there was room to slide them. I used to play that every time I sat in the car and went anywhere for long periods of time, like traveling on vacations. It kept me busy and it was a lot of fun and challenging. I think I owned a couple of different ones and they only cost like $1 or even less.

I remember when kids were kids and played outdoors from sun up til way past sundown if your parents would let you. I remember having fun after dark catching fireflies and thinking that was so awesome. I remember sitting out on an starry night and enjoying the moon and the stars and just talking for hours with my parents and recalling fun times and listening to old family stories. Those were the days. I'm glad I grew up in those days to appreciate the little things in life and I still do. emoticon

when my metabolism was so good that I could "eat anything" and wouldn't gain an ounce! I remember when ANY adult could dicsipline a youngster, and just wait until your parent found out..............you would get it double! AND I remember when we could afford to go to theme parks. It used to be free to enter Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland tickets, those E tickets sure didn't last long.............

I am old enough to remember the old pedal cars. They were usually found in most everyone's family and big enough seat to fit 2 though only one could work the pedals and it was like your first real sense of independence before you grew to ride a bike. Those were the days.

I am old enough to remember: Shirley Temple, oh how I loved all her shows, and still enjoy getting some old ones from our local library, and even though I know the outcome it makes me feel young again just watching them. T.V. was so wholesome then, no worries of inappropriate dialogue, or foul language, violence, or nudity, and each was a story that stayed with you long after watching it.

What do you remember? Can to share? LOL

I remember riding my bike to the community pool by myself? The world was safer (or more trusting?) back then. My parents were pretty protective of me, too. I wouldn't have let my son do it at that age.

I never heard of that but it sounds so much better than the standard fruit cake.

I remember when Coke was something you drank - not something you snorted. I've tried the new way but the bottle keeps getting stuck in my nose!

Has anyone ever had Fruitcake made from graham cracker? My Mom, sister and I used to make it every Christmas.

I'm old enough to remember going to Midnight Mass for the first time when I was 10 years old.

I'm old enough to remember crystal radios. My sister and I receiver ones that looked like spaceships one Christmas.
