That is an average of 500 calories a day to lose 1 pound a week.
RMR- Resting Metobolic Rate
My RMR at my current height, weight and age -
1603 calories If I calculate in moderate activity level(exercise 3-5 days a week) it brings it up to 2484.
I can either make this easy and use the moderat activity calculation in which I would just list the higher number and subtract my calories in to get my deficite
RMR 2484 - Calories in 1782 = 702 calorie defficit.
Or I think I want to be more accurate and use the bare number and calculate the actual calories burned as well. In which case my calculation will be as follows
RMR 1603 - Calories in 1782 + Calories burned 330 = 151 defficit (need to exercise)
